[s]Here's an idea (not a new one, I know that): Supernatural/paranormal circus!

More specific to my idea, any story would revolve around a traveling circus/carnival that is worked and operated by supernatural creatures. They hide as best as they can this way, but while the leadership is clear about the need to not draw too much scrutiny upon themselves, they can't necessarily control this "community". Case in point, the community can't seem to agree on whether this circus/carnival is a clever cover, or an effective trap, so while nobody is throwing caution to the wind in pursuit of settling the conflict, it's undeniable among them that the conflict is there.

There might even be room for one or more humans to get swept up in it, maybe forced to join the circus as a way to make sure they don't out the circus and it's true nature?

since that conflict among the performers is the closest thing I have to an overarching plot, and I don't think I want it to be overly serious, my working title is "Misadventures in The Midnight Circus"

So, I guess If I had to draw parallels, for the sake of visualizing it? I dunno, maybe, "What if Cirque Du Freak was more like Clive Barker's Nightbreed?"[/s]
