A villain in the Kalevala, she competed with the hero Väinämöinen for Sampo, a magical artifact. As such, her magical abilities are absolute.

She herself embodies the Underworld, the cave that she stored Sun and Moon in. With every step she takes, creating a sea of darkness. With this form applied, she receives the blessings of the Underworld. And punishes the living, turning her surroundings into a garden of the afterlife where her queenship is absolute.
