Creation and transformation were of great splendour to observe. The One contorted the DNA, worked the very fabric of the cells' simple structures and waited for the tedious meiotic processes to run their course. It worked patiently, stepping in to perfect the crossing over in each cell's initial metaphase to ensure the appropriate genetic code was aligned for the miniscual organisms to evolve the necessary organelle needed for the wondrous process of what would one day be known as photosynthesis. Though, for the entity spoke no language, most certainly not english, it simply observed the process to be a perfect absorption of energy from the perfect source. Yet an obstacle quickly presented itself to the colonization process instigated by the Unmitigated One, for despite the productivity of the photosynthesis, there was simply not enough energy to process; the colony was not thriving, for the sun's life giving rays were many miles away, up from the depths. Today, an individual may have been embarrassed at executing such a foolish mistake, but the entity knew not of judgement or of opinion, only movement and correction. And so it corrected itself, overjoyed with the possibility of improving on what was already before it. And so the Unmitigated One gathered what was left of the precious organisms and carried them up from the depths to the lighter waters, where they flourished and began to grow. The entity realized it had gone backwards in progress by allowing the colony to slowly perish in the depths, and took it upon itself to work harder to create the perfect producer of energy. As the sun rose and set again and again, the organisms began to surprise the One, and this surprise was also surprising to the entity for it had never been surprised before. The unicellular organisms had thrived in their photosynthetic processes, as was predicted and expected, but they began to act out on their own accord and do things not assigned by the entity. They had begun to join at each other's sides, all in a ball, possibly joining forces to collect more sun with less effort and share their rewards. The One was pleased and settled into the waves to observe and to ponder, ponder about what this could be. An instinct? Perhaps.
