The home of the Mormonts is a small island residing off the north western coast of the continent named Bear Island. The island is covered in a vast forest with a very large bear population befitting the house of the bear. Like the bear on their banner, House Mormont is one that believes in Ferocity, Bravery, Pride, and most important Loyalty. The Mormonts also standout amongst the other Westeros lords by the status of women within not only their house but of their people as well. Most women within the land are trained to fight at roughly the same age as the men so they answer the call should the time come, or so that they may simply protect the island and their families from harm. This training and dedication to combat readiness have made the mormonts a name for themselves as capable warriors that fight with the resolve of ten men. Recent History: Very little has changed since their inception as one of the many lesser houses under the starks. To this day they remain fiercely loyal to the Starks first and foremost. Having little ambition to climb the ladder of power, the mormonts have not been known to reach too high with their arranged betrothals. Instead they have mostly kept to other lesser houses and protomitly those that rest in the north, though they have started to travel further south on some occasion. The largest break in their tradition of seclusion would be their second son, Jornar Mormonts, participating in a number of tournaments around the realm bringing fame to their house. He has short dark black hair that is common of most northerners with a short close kept beard to match. Though he is tall, Jornar has a more athletic build from his early years of training and running the forest as a child. When not in his suit of armor he prefers to wear simple leather clothing with some green splashed in when able to show his roots of bear island. When he is ready for combat or a tourney however, Jornar dawns a simple steel armor with a green Surcoat depicting a large black bear on its chest. Description & biography: Jornar was marked as something special even while he still rested in how mothers womb with his twin that would never be. As the Maesters tell, his mother pregnant with him was especially grueling all the way up until the day of his birth. On that day the Measters worked for hours to deliver both of the children safely into the world. Sadly however only Jornar survived the process with his sibling being a stillbirth. Though the keep and all her inhabitants wept for the death of a child they would never know, they did rejoice for the survival of one they said would carry the strength of two Mormonts within him. That statement and belief became more and more as the days continued to pass and Jornar took the form of a proud warrior being nearly unmatched in his martial prowess. While his older brother was being tutored and trained in the ways of managing the island and all the skills that would be required of a lord one day, Jornar and Janas were mostly left to their own devices. Despite the age gap between them the two siblings grew quite close, almost becoming inseparable. Both have great aspirations to see the world and make a name for themselves and their family across the continent. Being that they lived in mostly a time of peace the only way to truly make a name for yourself was in the tournaments held in the southern kingdoms. And so with his fathers permission he and Janas left Bear island traveling around the continent competing in tournaments and aiding where they could, quickly earning him the nickname The Wandering Bear. Not really one for dress and dolls, Janas instead took to the same activities as her brothers did, insisting that she could do better than them. Lucky for Janas she was born in one of the few places that not only accepted the strange attitude but greatly encouraged it. Though she may not be as strong as her older brother she is a true marksman with a bow and willing to place an arrow between a person's eye at a moment's notice. This feistiness as well as her combat ability quickly earned her the name of the “She Bear”
