And in Maine, of all places, aka the second whitest state in America. It stands to reason that he would’ve been put through the wringer like every other kid who dared to step out of the box they’d been put in, but Dante managed to make it through with his hide (mostly) intact. Sure, he’s been called a dyke more than once, plus some other similarly unsavoury names, but his parents always talked about the importance of having thick skin; and besides, it’s no fun picking on someone who simply refuses to engage. Schoolwork always came easily to Dante, with him signing up for AP Calculus and Computer Science as soon as they were offered. His father, a data scientist, liked to say that Dante was a chip off the old block, and jokingly called him Junior when he bought him his own computer in middle school. What started out as a simple nickname grew into something more when Dante decided he liked the sound of it better than what was printed on his birth certificate and all his report cards. He soon started introducing himself as Junior to the people he met, and in the summer before his first year of high school, tied his hair up in a ponytail and chopped it off with a pair of kitchen shears. After that, everything just seemed to click into place. Dante’s parents were pretty supportive of his decision, even fending off pointed comments from their more conservative relatives in Puerto Rico and the Philippines. It felt like a weight had finally been lifted off his shoulders, and he continued to excel in school, though he never really did fit into any one clique. He and the kids he hung out with were thrown together more out of circumstance than anything else — outcasts who believed there was safety in numbers, and the programming savants Mrs. Cabot placed him in a hackathon team with — but Dante likes to think they got along well enough. Hell, he even picked up enough guitar messing around in music class to play in a shitty punk band for a couple of months before its unceremonious breakup. Truth be told, there was already enough on his plate to keep him occupied, even without close friends.[/sub]

[sup][sub]PSYCHE[/sub][/sup]

[sub]If there’s anything you should know about Dante, it’s that he’s a dreamer. Nevermind that this is the exact same answer he gave to that tech journal when they interviewed him that one time, all you have to know is that he’s very much an ideas guy. He likes thinking of ways to solve problems, streamline complicated processes, but some of what he comes up with can only be described as outlandish, and that’s really par for the course when it comes to Dante. He’s always been a little all over the place, jumping from idea to idea, worrying away at each one until he finds something he can really sink his teeth into. Not all of them are winners, of course, though one such concept was what led to him founding what would eventually grow to unicorn status alongside his buddy from college. Most of the time, Dante comes off as a pretty friendly and good-natured dude, if a little eccentric. As with his thought process, the way he speaks is similarly untethered and free-flowing… meaning that he basically says whatever comes to mind. Awkward silences are the bane of his existence, and he likes to joke that in another life, he would’ve made a great radio DJ — no chance for any dead air — though this tendency towards stream of consciousness has its fair share of downsides, too. He sometimes finds himself steamrolling the conversation, leaving no room for anyone to respond. It’s unintentional, for the most part, just him getting too caught up in whatever he’s talking about in that moment, but he would be remiss to deny that it’s a quirk of his that rubs some people the wrong way. It was only after he left Delton that he really started to come into his own. He’s always had short hair in high school, and hid his figure under hoodies, baggy shirts and jeans too big for him, but moving all the way to the other side of the country for college was what gave him that push, a chance to finally start looking how he wanted after questioning his gender identity for so long. Dante soon began HRT, got his name legally changed, and in sophomore year, underwent top surgery. This point in his life marked a huge shift for him. He became more confident, open, even making a habit of visiting the campus gym. And while there are some days where he still feels unsatisfied with how his body looks, he’s proud of how far he’s come since then.[/sub]
[sup]▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔[/sup][/cell][/row]

[row][sup]
▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅
[/sup][/row][row][cell]
[sup][sub]POWER[/sub][/sup]

[sub]Intangibility Dante is able to phase through solid matter. This ability extends to the clothes he’s wearing and whatever he has on his person at that moment. He isn’t quite sure how it works, just that he can apparently walk through walls now. Someone more well-versed in physics would probably draw the conclusion that he does so by passing his atoms through the subatomic spaces of whatever he’s phasing through, but even that sounds kind of insane when you say it out loud. The speed and ease with which he phases through an object or surface depends on how dense it is. He would find it easier to phase through a wooden wall than a concrete one, for example, and trying to do so with something like lead could cause disorientation, physical discomfort or even injury. While in this ‘phased’ state, Dante is practically untouchable by most forces. Physical objects pass right through him, but energy and magic react differently. Phasing through wires and electronic devices seems to disrupt the flow of electrons from one atom to another which results in a short-circuit, essentially bricking said device. Magic, on the other hand, is undeterred by the laws of physics, though that’s a whole ‘nother can of worms he’ll save the opening of for a later time.[/sub]
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔[/cell][cell]- [sub] ▼ STRENGTHS[/sub]
[sub]► Dante can choose which parts of his body to phase, meaning he can do things like stick his hand through the fridge door to grab a cold one while the rest of him remains thankfully corporeal. ► He’s able to extend his phasing ability to the objects he touches, allowing them to also phase as long as physical contact is maintained. He’ll eventually be able to do this with people.[/sub]
[sup] ▼ WEAKNESSES[/sup]
[sup]► While inside an object, Dante is unable to breathe, so he’s only able to phase through solid matter for as long as he can hold his breath. ► He cannot phase through living beings. This includes humans, animals and plantlife. ► Due to inexperience, he’s unable to fully control when and where he phases. This can lead to some awkward situations where he’s suddenly unable to physically interact with anything around him, or where he starts sinking through the floor in the middle of a conversation.[/sup]
[sup]▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔[/sup][/cell][/row]
