RELENTLESS!!!🎶
Name Demi Stevens Alias Bastion Nicknames "Absolute Unit", [s]Natalie[/s] "Dems" (No one actually calls her that) Age 16 Gender Female - She/Her Personality To call Demi headstrong would be an understatement. She always puts her best effort forward, confident that she’ll see something through to the end before it even starts. While not necessarily the “bubbly and cheery” kind of person, Demi is undoubtedly a positive person who can always be counted on to take things seriously and do what has to be done. Demi likes to look out for other people, making sure they’re okay and providing a shoulder for them to learn or cry on if they need. When she’s in costume as Bastion, she shows absurd courage in the face of danger. Demi is a diehard, absolute true believer of a cape with a near obsession for heroics, dedicated to helping others and stopping villains like a machine. All of this makes her seem like a classic example of what a hero should be, but it hides some less glamorous things that she isn't proud of. Demi doesn’t admit it, but she feels like she needs to be a hero. She cares deeply for other people, but Demi tends to experience feelings of self-loathing and insecurity when she isn’t out there in the streets putting up a fight against villains. She’s spent so much time as Bastion that sometimes she struggles to deal with just being Demi. She often pushes herself to do things more harshly than she should. While Demi is smart enough to not do something without proper caution, she has a deep workaholic streak, and derives self-validation from her actions as a hero. Demi's fixation on being a cape and getting things done leads her to pushing things too far even when any other sane person would stop and take a break. To anyone witnessing this, it simply seems like Demi is just a very very proud and determined cape. Which she is, despite the self-destructive tendencies that she hides deep down. Appearance She’s 5”11’ and built like a Ford F-150, what more do you need to know? Biography Roughly two years ago, a cape showed up to Redline. No one knew where she came from, but she immediately set out to do what all capes did. Bastion's appearance went mostly under the radar for a few months until she got to know what villains were where, at which point the new hero began making moves against every villain she could find. This was nothing out of the ordinary, heroes took the fight to villains all the time, but Bastion was quickly noted for always being at the scene of the crime. Bank robbery? Bastion was there. The Knights Aspirant are trying to take a piece of territory? Bastion was there. You name it, she showed up to as many conflicts as she was physically able to and got on board with heroes who were planning something whenever she could. One of her more notable feats of heroism involve a fight in the heart of the city, where Bastion hauled a power armored goon off of the floor and threw him at another power armored goon as if he was just a sack of flour. Both armor suits were smashed out of commission, and the bad guys got caught. This was undoubtedly absolutely hilarious to watch for some people who saw it on live tv, seeing a villain get broadsided with another villain, but the PRT saw this, and thought it was odd for someone with that kind of skill to be running around in just a motorcycle helmet and a winter jacket for a costume. More importantly, she wasn't on their payroll. They offered her a job, which Bastion turned down politely for reasons she didn't specify, and then went about her business. A year later, something similar happened. A bank robbery lead by a blaster named Daggershot, who made shrapnel projectiles. Bastion was there like usual, slinging shields like frisbees and slamming into the robbers like an NFL quarterback like usual, and keeping people safe like usual. Everything was normal for her, as well as the other heroes who showed up. What wasn't usual however, was the fact that Daggershot managed to blast Bastion in the side when she looked away for a split second. Bastion hurled a shield into his center mass before he could put a hole in her head with those projectiles, but now she was bleeding horribly, and struggling to stand. The other heroes on the scene got her to a hospital. It was then revealed that Bastion was only 16 years old, and that her parents "weren't around." She didn't explain what that meant, but for the last two years, this kid had been running around without any regard for her own wellbeing doing the job of a hero, and she didn't even have a home. The director of the PRT found out about this, and went to talk to her about it. Despite the many questions she was asked, Bastion didn't give a lot of personal answers. She never told anyone where she came from or who her parents were. They simply weren't a consideration, especially since they were the cause of her trigger event. Bastion spent a week in the hospital, and during this time, she and the director got to know each other enough that Bastion was offered a place on the Wards team coming together. She was always known as one of those capes that jumped at every opportunity to do something good for others, and so Bastion accepted after she recovered from the quasi-shotgun blast in her side. Besides, someone on this team needs to know what they're doing. Powers [sub]
Brute | Shaker(Trump)
[/sub]
Imagine, if you will, that Guardian and Amazon had a child. Bastion produces forcefields that disrupt powers and their effects. The forcefields have enough strength to withstand bullets and being thrown at a brick wall. Whenever a parahuman comes into contact with one of Bastion's forcefields, their powers are disrupted and taken out temporarily. Someone in an active breaker form would be pushed out of that form, changers would struggle to change substantially, or even at all. Blaster projectiles or shaker effects would be cut off by the shields depending on the way they functioned. In order for this to work, the barriers have to make physical contact with something, and nullifying someone's powers doesn't always work in a simple way. A tinker's weapon might stop working if it touched a forcefield, but the tinker's ability to understand their tech wouldn't change if they touched it; A master's control over someone might not be stopped if their victim touched the shield, but only if the master did. In cases where a forcefield breaks, it doesn't just vanish into thin air quietly, but in a burst of force that feels like getting punched in the face. Bastion also has an absurd amount of physical strength. She may not be able to lift a semi-truck over her head, but she's usually the strongest person in a room. With one arm, Bastion can lift anywhere from 150lbs to 200. If she put her whole body into it, she could likely push a car full of snot-nosed 5th graders up a hill. Despite having that much strength, it doesn't give her any ability to jump across rooftops, tank bullets without a shield or outrun a mover. Granted, you definitely wouldn't want to be in her way when Bastion starts charging into something, but her brute powers do very little for her beyond lifting really heavy things or throwing a villain who got too close to her through a wall. One of Bastion's favorite ways to use her powers is to fling one of her forcefields at somebody like she's Captain fucking America, by using her arm strength along with her control over the shields to hurl them forward with enough force to shatter them against something.
Other Bastion's favorite powers are the ones that capes like Guardian and Amazon have, because all the cool heroes are either absurdly buff or make forcefields. Ask her how she knows.

Four years ago Between the smell of accelerant fumes in the air, and the sound of a Tinker trying to desperately bust his way out of the chain wrapped around his arms, Catalyst was doing pretty good right now. Sure, it may have taken all of his favors to get the information on Magnus in the world, but now he had him right where he wanted him. Exactly 30 feet away, chained to a wall in an abandoned warehouse with none of his tech, and soaked in gasoline, leading to a trail that ended at his feet. ”I’m gonna start counting, Magnus. To ten. When I’m done, I’m going to pull out a lighter, drop it to the floor, and walk away. If you want out of here, you’ll tell me where the Midnighters are.” ”Do I look like I know where the hell they are, you fucking lunatic?!” The Tinker shrieked. Catalyst had managed to catch him out of costume, so he didn’t even have a helmet on. He has a scraggly face of half-assed stubble, and didn’t have a face anyone other than a cataract-riddled mother could love. Rosy cheeks that didn’t actually look rosy, just sunburnt, and a bruise over his lip that may or may not have been Catalyst’s handiwork. ”You look like you’re about to die, Magnus. Don’t keep me waiting, Magnus.” Catalyst liked to think he was a patient person, giving Magnus way more than ten seconds to tell him what he wanted to hear. But even saints had finite patience. ”They pay you. Direct deposit into your hands, in cash. Unless they have some sort of Tinker device they use to deliver you the money or some other indirect means. And if that’s the case, you had better elaborate unless you feel like finding Jesus in the next few minutes.” ”I don’t fucking know!” Magnus shouted, ”They’re Strangers! They cover their asses so I don’t- I don’t know where they go! Please- Don’t- I have- Fuck!” ”They’re Strangers. Fantastic. I can get that from anybody. How do they give you your money? I have your bank statements in my pocket, I know they don’t wire anything to you. So…” Catalyst reached into a pocket and pulled out a lighter. ”Answer me.” The look on Magnus’ face was a mix of abject fear and downright despair. Catalyst could almost see a tear start to dribble down the left side of his face when he lit a flame. He writhed and squirmed in the chains like a cat stuck under a box… No. Magnus was gutter trash as far as tinkers went. Energy transfer. He could make weapons capable of harmlessly immobilizing other villains or make a hovercraft if he wanted, but instead he used his tech to make a lab for producing drugs that he sold to kids. Kids that were Natalie’s age. And Catalyst had him low, pleading for his life. Magnus, more like Maggot. ”I’m sure there’s something sharp in here, if you’d rather die after I kick my powers on. Either way, there’s no one on this godforsaken rock that knows you’re in here. I ought to be God to you right now, Magnus. The next words that come out of your mouth had better be something that I’ll want to hear, or I'll drop this lighter. One.” ”Stop! I-I swear I don’t know! They leave the money somewhere and tell me where it is! I don’t ever see them, they just leave it!” A smile creeped across Catalyst’s face from behind his helmet. ”Where?” ”Out in Baylin by the tracks. There’s a hatch on the roof that no one uses, they- They leave it there and give me orders for a job sometimes. That’s all- They- They don’t actually Get involved with me.” Finally. Answers. Catalyst had what he wanted. ”When do they leave you the money?” ”I don’t know, I don’t know. They just leave it whenever after I tell them a job’s been done.” That was disappointing. ”You can do better than that, Magnus.” His tone was grim. ”That’s all I know- I swear. I- That- I don’t know anything else!” ”Magnus. You-” ”Please! I- I can give you the money!” ”You’re obviously useless, and I don’t need money. It’s time to start praying.” ”No- No, no. No, you can’t- No, I ga- I-” Magnus’ slowly eroding composure had finally broken, and now tears were streaming down his face like blood from his lip when Catalyst removed two of his teeth. ”See, now you look like all those poor parents whenever they find out their precious little baby boys and girls got hooked on drugs. You could’ve been so much more, and now you look like a sick and dying rat.” Catalyst’s irritation with the whole situation was starting to show in how bitter his tone had become. ”Don’t kill me…” Magnus managed between his pitiful sobs. It only pissed Catalyst off even more. He dropped the lighter, and Magnus immediately erupted into screams louder than a cannon. Catalyst watched as the trail burned up to his feet, and then watched as the pathetic excuse for a Tinker turned into a living campfire. His screams of fear became screams of agony. Catalyst reached into a pouch at his belt, and pulled a flask out. He took his helmet off and emptied the entire thing into his mouth before leaving Magnus to burn to death in a dusty tomb that was far too good for him. The building would likely burn down with him, but no one would trace it back to a hero. Catalyst left and drove off to look for his targets. Smoke started to rise into the air by the time he was a few blocks away. Siren commands respect wherever she goes with an air of well-backed confidence, she knows exactly what she is capable of, and makes a point of knowing exactly what the people around her are capable of as well. Siren is a dependable woman, she’s not afraid to offer assistance to heroes who need it, and has been known to steer the occasional innocent parahuman away from going down the path of villainy. Anyone who has had the opportunity to work with her knows that she has her act together, which is a lot more than most parahumans can say. She has taken on a great deal of responsibility during her hero career, and isn’t afraid go down swinging for what she believes. Beneath her tough exterior lies a deep sense of compassion for the world around her. Years of dedicating herself to fighting back villains and even the Heralds mean she has weathered more than her fair share of storms. One can argue that Siren is a bit of an outlier, having witnessed as much as she has over the years without losing the determination in her eye to keep going. Some may find it inspiring, others may think she’s simply hiding more hurt and baggage than they realize. Despite being put through so much, Siren still manages to simply deal with it all.

[sub]Appearance:[/sub]

Out of costume, it's all comfort. Sweatpants, baggy sweatshirts, and anything that doesn't make her feel too humid. Due to the side effects of her powers, Sierra's hair is always wet. She hasn't been able to successfully dry it in the last two decades. How wet depends on how much she uses her powers. After a head-on fight with villains, it looks like she dunked her head underwater. When she wakes up in the morning, it only feels somewhat damp. Don't ask how she sleeps comfortably. Don't ask about the eye, either. Siren wears a getup that makes someone think she's a pirate instead of, well, a siren.

[sub]Biography:[/sub]

She fell overboard from the side of the boat, and couldn’t swim. Everything was blue for as far as she could see, her limbs felt like stone. She was cold. There was no solid ground to stand on anymore, she was far from the shore by now, no doubt. The rumble in her ears was all she could hear, the faint reflection of sunlight from the far off surface was growing further and further. But she thrashed and clawed through the water. She tried with every fleeting breath to pull herself closer to the light. Her lungs were screaming. She could feel her strength dwindling, and her arms didn’t get any lighter for it. She sank down. Down. And down. ”I don’t want to die.” Everything went black, and the sky spilled open. A storm emerged from a cloudless sky over the land, screaming winds and rain heavy enough to drown the highest mountains. Thunder shook the ground for miles, trees were torn from their roots as if they were grass, and she walked home across the ocean. She was the ocean. When the storm passed, she knew she was different, changed forever. The way her body became water with a passing thought felt like second nature to her. She didn't understand it at the time, but Sierra had just become a breaker.
24 years have passed since Sierra’s trigger event, and she has spent that time using her powers as an independent hero by the name of Siren, protecting her home from all manners of villains, joining the fight against Heralds, and eventually using her experience to set examples for other up and coming heroes. Siren never hid her identity, to the surprise of many, as she knows she was never perfect, and knew she had to hold herself accountable should she ever make a mistake that out others in harm’s way. As a very successful and competent vigilante, Siren had received countless offers from hero teams, some sponsored by the PRT, others independent. She never took the offers. They were never her scene. Before coming to Redline, she was already a well-known cape. She brought down many villains over the years, and made close friends among the more “professional” heroes. Siren always took pride in her ability to spur changes among capes and guide others down a good path. It was that willingness to set examples that made the PRT approach her in a more official capacity for the Wards Initiative. It was not the first time they spoke, but rather than say they wanted her, they conveyed that they needed someone like her for the Guardians in Redline. They needed her affinity for guidance among younger capes, and she obliged. There was never a reason for Siren to join the PRT officially. She always had plenty of money from working in the Marina where she was thrown from just before her trigger event. Siren had enough common sense not to do anything stupid with her powers, and she always enjoyed the freedom of independent work. But Siren was accustomed to supporting less experienced capes from her time spent in costume, and she believed in what the PRT did. When they told her about a program meant to train parahuman children who may be coming from bad circumstances and equip them with the tools to be the next generation of heroes, she gladly took a place among the Redline Guardians.

[sub]Powers: Hydrokinesis/Water Physiology [Breaker 7(Shaker 6) (Brute3) (Mover2)][/sub]

Siren has a form she shifts into where her body is altered to be made of water. Her clothes blur and mingle with the surface of her skin and seem to cascade away towards any edge. Siren's hair goes from being constantly wet to a raging waterfall in the shape of hair, that no one can touch without their hand passing through or being pushed back out. In this form, Sierra absorbs any free water in a solid or gaseous state that her body touches, which is used to slowly heal wounds. She can also walk on water in this state, but the most important advantage to Siren’s Breaker state is that it allows her to access her Shaker power: Hydrokinesis. In this form, Siren can freely manipulate free water in any state, such as liquid or ice cubes, on a molecular level. This allows Siren to artificially change the state of water and move it like an extension of her body, which it technically is. Her body takes on the physical properties of water, causing most physical damage to pass right through her. Siren is also capable of altering the weather with enough humidity in the air, effectively forcing rain to pour down. This doesn't have much of a practical use unless the rain is particular heavy, and takes time, but it makes Siren ability to flood a street a lot easier if it happens. Siren can't recreate the wind or lighting associated with a thunderstorm, but sometimes, when she is pushed into circumstances like the ones during her trigger event, a full-blown thunderstorm just might occur outside of her control.

[sub]Other:[/sub]

She lost her eye and half of the skin on her face to a striker with an explosion power that turned organic matter into bombs.

[sub]Theme Song[/sub]

The Real McKenzies - The Tempest

https://open.spotify.com/track/6gXLYsEkqlhe41lWPdBKOx?si=by4QgNjxQa2_OjtSaNyBjA
