His talents in this regard have given him some recognition among the Academy, and he currently serves as Captain of the Magical Dueling Society, despite being only a third year. Furthermore, he is a keen member of the Fencing Society, though of only average ability in this respect. Idealistic - A strong moral compass guides Alasdair. In the safe walls of Hawthorne, this has manifested in many ways - whether it be stepping up to bullies, or offering friendship to an ostracized student. He is daring and courageous when needed, willing to stand for his ideals and to follow the ancient words of his family, β€œDo what is right”. Old Money - The Sinclaire family may not be as prestigious or as wealthy as it once was, but Alasdair has still been afforded an affluent upbringing. Having access to funds and family contacts is a strength that, while rarely of use in Hawthorne itself, will undoubtedly help in life. Whether it's fair or not is another matter. [/sub] [sub]WEAKNESSES[/sub] [sub]Hero Syndrome - Allie feels compelled to interject, even when his help may not be wanted or necessary - or, indeed, even when it may do more harm than good. He cannot let something go that he perceives to be wrong, and this is a reflection of his own insecurities. Narrow Education - Alasdair is a duelist. He's a good one, too. But success in this field comes at a very real cost, and his studies in all other areas of magic have slumped. Don't expect him to be breaking complicated charms, deciphering potions, applying healing magic or employing any other variety of crucially useful spells for real-world circumstances. Impulsive - He is not one to think through the consequences of his actions, but has instead always taken the β€˜cast first, ask questions later’ approach to life. This has landed him in trouble with his peers and tutors alike, and will no doubt continue to do so. Pride of a Wizard - Alasdair has a tendency to come across as judgemental or condescending. Mostly, this is unintentional, and a shared trait among many magical folk who consider themselves the champions of β€˜progress’ among supernatural society. It's hard, being me - The Sinclaire family count themselves among the oldest and most prestigious of the wizarding families, tracing back their heritage thousands of years. Alasdair has carried a deep-rooted insecurity of failing to live up to the reputation of his name, and is prone to bouts of brooding and sulking. When in these moods, he can be short with even his few friends. Loner - Alasdair has kept few friends at Hawthorne Academy. Though close with the few he has, it nevertheless remains a fact that he has never mastered the art of sociability. This is a cause for deep anxiety. Has he simply been neglecting his social life for study, or is he just unlikeable?[/sub] [sub]OUTLOOK / IDEALS / PERSPECTIVE [/sub] [sub][sup]β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”[/sup][/sub] [sub] Allie has within his blood the heritage of witches and wizards leading back over a thousand years, and his views have been molded by the place his family has long held in magical society. He is fascinated by magic and the possibilities it represents - but is a firm believer in the responsibility such power brings. He is quick to look down on other spellcasters who, in his view, have forgotten this responsibility. Similarly, he is convinced of the Academy system - despite the shortcomings it carries. On vampires and werewolves, he has a tendency to display unintended condescension as if they were unruly children. His interactions with either kind, despite his tenure at Hawthorne, could admittedly be counted on one hand - and this is perhaps an extension of that viewpoint. He has been too lost in the world of magic to truly give consideration to supernatural life that exists outwith it. If he had to instinctively choose, he’d wager a werewolf would be more fun at a party, and probably more trustworthy, too. Alasdair is protective of humanity, and looks to them as an elder brother might a younger. He does not wish to see them harmed by the supernatural community, and holds the ambition of becoming a Seeker (the agents of the academies) to enforce supernatural laws.[/sub] [sub]AMBITIONS[/sub] [sub][sup]β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”[/sup][/sub] [sub] ➽➽➽ to become a seeker ➽➽➽ to be remembered[/sub] [sub]FEARS[/sub] [sub][sup]β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”[/sup][/sub] [sub] ➽➽➽ being forgotten[/sub] [sub] ➽➽➽ being alone[/sub] [sub] Π² Γ Οƒ g r Ξ± p h Ρ‡ [/sub] [sub][sup]β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”β–”[/sup][/sub]
β€œDo what is right”, tells the ancient words of the magical Sinclaire family. Their storied history can be traced back thousands of years, with prestigious heritage including countless wizards and witches of notable achievement. Their history began in Scotland, where it is said they played a pivotal role in the establishment of Hawthorne Academy. Indeed, the first Headmaster is noted as being a Sinclaire. The family has long since relocated to London, though they do maintain a peaceful estate near Glen Affric in the highlands of Scotland - used for periods of quiet reflection and uninterrupted holidaying. Among the magical kind, the surname is perhaps one of the most easily recognisable, though their part in leading supernatural laws and management of the Academies has faded notably. It has been no less than two hundred years since the last Sinclaire was on the staff of Hawthorne, and the family is now best described as genteel, out of the way β€˜old money’. Their patriarch (and father of Alasdair), Duncan Sinclaire, is at the very least known for his outspoken advocacy on the part of sustainable and ethical care for magical creatures, and the enforcement of the laws forbidding vampires from feeding on mortals. Alasdair is the latest in the long line of Sinclaires, and for now, the last. He remains an only child to his parents, Duncan and Eloise, and carries with him the weight of his family's future despite the insistence of his parents that he needn’t worry on it. They have afforded him all the love in the world, encouraging their son to pursue his passions and not to be burdened with the name they carry - but despite this environment, Alasdair has never felt truly a child. He holds himself to expectations that he does not know how to reach. This has manifested in his academia, and magical study. He is a talented student, there can be no doubt, but he is struggling to grow beyond this. Who has time for friends when there are only twenty four hours in the day? In his view, he can either devote himself to practice and learning to become the finest duelist in a generation - or he can fade, and the family name with him. His choice was easy, and it was one he made at a young age. His family afforded him the finest tutors, the wisest mentors and this has prepared him well for life at Hawthorne. Now in his third year, he is the Captain of the Magical Dueling Society for witches and wizards and has also become a skilled member of the fencing club. He has so far excelled in exams relating to magical dueling and offensive magic, and can see for himself a future as a Seeker (those supernaturals who enforce their laws). But, perhaps, he has not been prepared for quite all aspects of life at Hawthorne… His circle of friends is small, his exposure to non-magical supernaturals remains limited, and his worldview firmly unchanged. As Headmaster Lightwood often repeats, Hawthorne is about more than mere academia - it is about growing into members of a supernatural community. On this, Alasdair has work still to do - and with no signs of improvement, it remains to be seen how the new year will change him.
