She tends toward darker and muted colors, favoring earth tones. She likes her denim - straight or bootcut usually - often sporting a pair of Doc Martens. Aside from her glasses and a couple beanies/ball caps, she doesn’t tend to accessorize much.

Quick on her feet and always eager to pull the trigger on whatever quip’s loaded in the chamber, Chi Mai operates on a filter-less ‘thoughts in - words out’ system. She’s quick to laugh, freely indulging her playful side in her liberal use of humor when interacting with people. To her, nothing is serious, everything is funny.

She’s not blind to the effects her words have on people though, and will freely admit when she’s gone too far. Though she may feel bad at the time, the girl simply cannot resist sticking her foot in her mouth and will likely repeat her mistakes.

She’s got a bit of a mischievous streak to her - enjoying pushing people’s buttons to get a rise or doing things that she’s been told she shouldn’t do - though she’s more of a nuisance than a menace. At the end of the day, she simply values fun incredibly highly. That more often than not leads to her being a bit unreliable, constantly pushing things to the last minute if not outright forgetting about them. She’s a free spirit that absolutely detests being shackled.

A textbook extrovert who loves to be around people, Mai actively listens when people speak and will freely share details about herself when asked, though she’s not one to offer anything of substance too willingly. Her interactions tend to be more surface level. She would rather be acquaintances with fifty people than be intimate with five. When people probe, she dodges, deflects, or defuses.

[b][color=#97aaad]How did you discover your powers:[/color][/b] 
At some point in her childhood, Mai was unknowingly exposed to Terrigen Mist and underwent Terrigenesis. She doesn’t even recall that it had happened, let alone why or how, but at that time her latent Inhuman gene was activated and she developed her power. Yet it wasn’t until about the onset of puberty that Mai became aware that something was off. On her walk home from school one day, she discovered the family cat, Bac Meo, lying in an alley - stiff and motionless. He didn’t respond to her calls, and when she approached him, he was unresponsive. As the girl got more and more upset, she wanted nothing more than for her cat to wake up. And then he did. 

The girl was just absolutely overjoyed that Bac Meo was alright, so she didn’t think much of the event. But later she would go over that day and come to the chilling realization that Bac Meo was very much dead or dying when she found him.

When later that year she tripped and fell down the stairwell in the apartment complex her family resided in, she broke her arm in two spots, and lost a tooth. Yet no one ever knew about that little incident, because in the girl’s panic, the bones in her arm mended and another tooth formed in place of the old one. By this point, she was fully aware of mutants and superheroes. So she incorrectly believed this to be her mutant awakening. 

[b][color=#97aaad]General History:[/color][/b] 

Late on a Wednesday night in early June of 2022, a beautiful screaming baby girl was born to exhausted parents Phan Binh Minh and Le Chi Kim after twenty stressful hours of labor. The birth was difficult, the delivery room was chaos, and at some point, the child was taken from the room. Hopefully, off to a bright and happy life, but that’s a story for another day. Instead, we’ll be following the baby that was brought back into the room.

Be it by accident or nefarious means, none present noticed that the baby placed into Kim’s arms was not the one that the mother had spent nine months carrying. The babies looked enough alike and the bands on their wrists had somehow gotten exchanged. Thus after a week in the hospital, the family returned to their household, one larger than they had been when they left.

Mai had a pleasant childhood. While the family was by no means rich, both Kim and Binh Minh were successful enough in their careers to live comfortably. The girl never wanted for anything. She was surrounded by family that loved her and once she started school, she made friends easily. 

Upon discovering her powers, Mai kept it a tightly held secret from everyone. She never doubted her parents’ love, but she was well aware of mutants. Some people supported them. Many people didn’t. Either way, it was attention and stress that the girl didn’t want to put on her folks. She considered telling her brother, but Truong Son couldn’t keep a secret to save his life. So she kept it to herself. She experimented in secret. She scoured the internet for information on people like herself. She even got involved in some online communities of other mutants, but quickly left once she started getting paranoid.

Mai’s parents were well accustomed to their eccentric daughter’s odd whims, so when the topic of applying for admission to the Avengers Academy in Los Angeles, their reaction was one not so much of suspicion but confusion. Yet after weeks of begging, pleading, and bargaining, her parents relented and agreed to let her at least try, as they were apt to do. After all, where was the harm in letting her put in an application and doing an interview?

She was accepted.

The interrogation truly began then, as Mai’s family began to barrage her with questions. How did she pull it off? Luckily for her, she only had to endure a couple months questioning. And she did what she does best - dodge, deflect, defuse, and deny.

Eventually, her parents came to see it as an incredible opportunity for their daughter, so they agreed to let her go, none the wiser to their mutant (Inhuman) daughter's little secret.

[list][*]For a personal character arc, Mai will need to learn to let people in and form actual non-superficial bonds with people. And while she was able to get into the academy, it was more of a ‘can she get in?’ than a ‘should she get in?’ She needs to discover what it means to be a hero and if she has what it takes to be one.

[*]Mai does not have a flawless grasp of her powers. They are strong, but they require refinement. For all the good she can do with them, there is an equal room for her to harm. It may be fun to explore the fallout from healing being unreliable and the consequences that may arise from that.

[*]Mai was switched at birth and sometime later exposed to Terrigen Mist. Why? Are they connected? Mai may need to learn about either of those events at some point, and when she does, she’ll want to find answers.
