A reputation of solitude enhanced by the fact that Elias has never sought to expand his social circle beyond the few misfits and misbegotten souls that, have not so much been allowed into his life, nor that he has found comfort in, but simply because he’s found something in them. Something humorous. Something likeable. Something curious. Yet, even these few can’t claim true friendship, just mere acquaintanceship. However, of what they know of Elias (and of what Elias knows of himself), he isn’t as withdrawn or hostile to social interaction as what the perception may hold. Easy to smile, and quick to tease, though never to realms where cruelties lay. Happy to hear the stories of those who never receive the opportunity with a guiding hand for those who seek it, and, on those rare occasions, for those who need it. Elias will never reject anyone, nor will he ever turn down someone’s ask of help, yet, he remains an island amongst a sea of people, the odd patchwork of souls just few who have tread upon his shores. One explanation for his nature could be a result of his life of constant travel. Raised by a single father, the duo rarely resided long in any one location. While Elias might deny this as the source of his resistance of finding his own clan, that he’s too loyal to the dynamic of a father and son who only have each other, he does owe it credit to his curiosity of the world. Rather passionate for the roving lifestyle he and his father have adopted, Elias possesses a quiet love for geography, history, and people in general, which may explain why he much more prefers to be a casual observer rather than an active participant. A midnight wanderer, a woodland explorer, museum peruser, one of his great anguishes is the belief that all wonder in the world has gone. That there’s nothing ancient, nothing mystical left to discover.
Physical Description ---
If asked, a lot would classify Elias as a pretty boy from tip to toe. If personally pressed, Elias would be less inclined to motion towards any perceived attraction he may hold and instead speak of his pride for his eyes and smile; warm chestnut brown eyes, and an empathic, joyful smile, Elias takes pride in the features he inherited from his mother. With a bundle of pony-tailed chocolate cherry locks that lightens in the summer and darkens further in the winter. Both tones complement his grunge-chic look of thrift store fashion, knock-offs, and hand-me-downs via way of donation boxes. Elias isn’t too proud to declare to the world that the life he inhabits highlights his destitute background. If it can be cleaned, stitched and sowed, then what’s the problem? It’s an assortment of fashion that also compliments his lithe frame. Be it tight jeans, tattered doc martens and baggy jumpers, with his favourite military-styled jacket that is far too large for him, even if he is just short of a definitive six-foot.
Backstory ---
The simple reality for Elias is that both he and his father are criminals; sneak thieves, con artists, footpads, pickpockets, burglars, and swindlers. Name it, and both Jensen men have likely committed the crime for it. It has been the motivator for why they have roamed from place to place as a family. A mixture of poverty becoming too much, and certain activities becoming too hot. Elias and his father have rarely dwelled in one place for too long before moving on. The closest Elias has ever known to normality was the life – or the dream of the life – before his mother’s passing. Remembering a rickety old farmhouse, a mountain range in the backdrop and a shrouded grove across a frozen lake. He can’t be sure if such a thing ever existed, if his mother had cradled him in her arms as she walked through the winter, or if such a thing was just a dream, or a shared mutual unspoken hope between father and son. If such a thing was true, he wonders if this is the reason why his father has never settled. Even with all the attempts he’s tried to go straight, the women he’s witnessed his father fall for, the home they’ve tried to make. The old man always felt the fire beneath him, something that stirred up the restlessness, the apprehension that everything wasn’t right because that dream was still out there. Maybe that’s why New Hope has been their home for the past year. Maybe something there is close to those dreams. Or maybe, just maybe, his father is seeking out that one last score. The big one. For as good as his father is, for as long as he’s scammed and robbed and stolen, not one has ever been enough. For Elias, however, sooner or later something has to give, and if he has to be the one to secure his big one, so be it.
Notable Connection --- Nicholas Jensen.
Elias loves his father immensely. Where they’ve had nothing, Nicholas has sacrificed to provide for his son. Where Elias has failed, Nicholas has lifted him up. Where there was cold, Nicholas was always his son’s warmth. Elias would never describe his father as perfect, he’s failed just as much. There have been times when his humanity has slipped through, displaying that his father was just another man where they’ve bickered, argued, and thrown the worse obscenities at each other. But neither has remained mad at the other for too long, neither has been able to remain apart from the other for too long. However, the one sore point between them is the life they lead, or namely, the life they lead and who it targets; Nicholas possesses no sense of unity amongst the forsaken and sees all as fair game – when he does break, and a break is coming, Elias sees that itch in him, he’s been playing straight for too long. The odd job and hard labour of the day can only last such a man so long – Nicholas would bleed everyone beyond his son dry. Elias, in contrast, isn’t so comfortable taking from those just as destitute as them, and nor is he as willing to work over those who show kindness. Regardless of how rich they might be. Maybe that is where Elias fails, or maybe that’s where his father fails. Still, he loves his father. For good or ill.
You're in class and the Fire Alarm goes off. Everyone begins to panic.
“I likely wait, give it some time. Part of me would likely hold up at the back, looking out for anyone still too afraid to move. Someone has to take care of them. The other part of me would likely be taking a snoop to see if anyone left anything behind. Doubtful though. You’re not supposed to take valuables but it’s always the first thing people reach for.”
You've made plans to go to the festival and are running late, but may make it in time to see the fireworks with your friends. On your way, you see a stranger with a flat tire on the side of the road.
“I don’t really have friends, so I can afford the opportunity to stop and give a hand. My dad took some work as a grease monkey in a place down South for a time, so, I can help as best as I can. At the very least, if I can’t, I can provide some conversation. Get to know them. Get a real glimpse of what sort of car they’re driving. What sort of life they’re living. A car can tell you a lot about a person. I mean, it’s an obvious thing, but I don’t think people realise just how much a vehicle betrays about someone. If they have children. If they have dogs. If they're alone. What sort of street they live on. If they have a garage or not. How much attention they give security systems. All that fun stuff.”
You fall asleep in class and begin to dream; you're atop a ruined tower and a massive dragon circles overhead. You reach for…
“I don’t know, I don’t think I’d reach for anything. I think I’d be too stunned by the sight. I ain’t much of a striker, so I can’t imagine I’d do much harm, especially against a dragon. I think I’d just take in the sight and, as terrified as I’d likely be, try and enjoy myself. Of course, if I had to grapple for anything. A bow? A crossbow? An anti-air missile launcher? What can one do against a dragon?”
The world is so boring; you wish you had a super power. What do you wish for?
“Telekinesis, maybe? That’ll be fun. Teleportation? Is a good shout. Invisibility. Yeah, maybe invisibility. Nothing for anything nefarious. I mean, it would make certain endeavours easier but, you know, you ever been awake in the middle of the night and you just felt like you’re the only person in existence? I’d like to do that while everyone is awake, living, doing their own thing. I’d like to just roam and do my own thing, everyone obvious to my existence. I don’t know, I like my own company, world can get too busy sometimes, so, maybe yeah, invisibility.”
You are suddenly reminded that tomorrow is the Midterm Exam.
“The classroom is on the ground floor, wouldn’t be difficult to pop the lock on the window, climb in – hell, the entire school’s security is shoddy – I bet I could brute force my way in and it’ll take a week for the school to notice something was off. But, I also like to pretend I live a normal life, and had a normal upbringing, doing normal things, so I wouldn’t be surprised because I’d already know. I would have studied. Because I like to read. I like to study. I know, a rarity but, sometimes, it’s those little satisfactions from doing something just like everyone else.”
