You are an adventurer! Whether you are a mage, swordsman, ranger, or whatever else, you do jobs for people to make money. You're pretty decent with your abilities, but you also know you have a lot of growth ahead of you as well.

Whatever the reason may be, you found yourself in the small town of Centerville that day, relaxing at a local tavern. The mellow vibe of the establishment suddenly ended when a panicked sun cleric slammed the door open.

"The beast has attacked again! Are any of you adventurers? We need your help! Come with me to the mayor's office, he'll give you a good reward for your help."

Whether for the money, out of altruism, or another reason entirely, you volunteer for the mission. Now you find yourself working with strangers to help this town. Will you be able to overcome this adversary together?

So the above is a little prompt I thought up of for a medieval fantasy RP. The world is pretty typical for the genre and can be developed as the story progresses; the focus here is on your PCs. You would RP as something like a swordsman or a mage. Your characters would be somewhere between novices and mid-level (maybe leaning towards the latter, depending on how everyone feels about it) with their abilities; they'll be able to fight well, but there will be room for growth. I structured this so that there is room to develop a sustained plot if the interest is there, but if not, this can be a shorter RP.
