Now dressing in finer silks and gems, the man still dons armor when it is called for. Once brown hair has gone a steel grey over his weathered face, with peasant brown eyes. A scar mars the corner of his mouth from a wound in a battle and he is clean-shaven. Not a tall man, Lucas still maintains a respectable height with a slight paunch from his enjoyment of excess thanks to his new wealth as Lord of Harrenhal.
Description & biography:
The young lord of Harrowtown was never a kind nor happy man. His first wife had been content with their marriage as a rise to her station and he found her wiles enjoyable and whims easily to deal with. Their marriage produced two hearty sons Jon and Damon and a daughter, Alys. Lucas set up a good marriage for his son with Alarra Harlton, a daughter of the lord. It was favorable to both as Lord Harlton was gifted with gold for his daughter. The man was skilled at the management of money and the lands under his care, yet he did have a heart. Enough that he felt a sting of sorrow when his wife died from a fall while hawking. He worried that without the hand of a mother, not that of a sister by marriage, his daughter and son who were yet young would grow up lacking. He also wished for more children, life was a fleeting thing and the pleasures of a wife cost less than that of a whore house. Thus he set out and convinced the Lord of Brackenhall to marry his daughter Catelyn Bracken to him. It was with a large bag of gold and the men made no boned about the fact it was selling of the woman to a husband rather than a marriage for alliance or any nonsense the songs sang about. He of 39 and she of 18, not quite half his age. All would have been well and that the end of it, but for the Right to First Night. On the eve of the marriage upon returning with his bride, Lucas was intercepted by Gargon the Gorse, Lucas's liege lord and a Westrosi Valyrian through his father. The man was fat with pale hair and blue eyes, his foul habit making him a bane to all who married. So, thus he was a bane to Lucas and claimed the man's dearly-won bride. The insult would be bad enough, but Catelyn found herself with child. Unsure if it was the offspring of her lord husband or the vile Qoherys, the woman found herself willed to keep it despite the warning of her maester that it might be best to drink moonbeam and try again. To Catelyn, a child so early in the marriage would be a boon, and grace her with some favors from Lucas. What came forth was blue and green of eye and silver of hair. The baby girl was dubbed 'Rivers' for her Valyrian blood could not be mistaken. Scorned all the more by her husband, what once had been pleasant turned to a chore for heirs and the whore houses still claimed Lucas's money. Lucas felt as though the birth of the babe was an insult to him, that three more daughters followed was a slight, but a useful one for future alliances. Daughters were useless in general. Only fit to be waited on by maid, rack up expenses, and marry them off for alliances. His son, his only son, born of Catelyn was Horas. A young lad who was just like his older brothers. His younger son was married to a Butterwell daughter, an alliance designed by his father but agreed to by Damon's feats. With two sons to be proud of, Lucas found his daughters more of use as tokens in the Great Game. With a stroke of luck, Gargon the Gross died to Harren the Red, and when Harrnehal was scoured of the rogue the castle and lands were granted to the newly minted Lord Lucas in 37 AC. It was two years later his eldest daughter was pawned off to Prince Maegor. A good thing to link his house with that of the Targaryens, though it angered the Faith by the fact Prince Maegor was already wed. Now, Lucas sits in the turbulent time between crown and faith, willing to do as the crown says and browbeat his family to his will. Harrenhal is strong. His family is thick with men and his daughters all lovely. There is nothing but a good look for his future if everyone simply listens to him. His chestnut hair kept long and his face seamed with a few scars from fighting against Harren the Red and his outlaws along with other bandits through the years. A dab hand with the sword his build is still that of a practiced knight. A bit taller than his father and strong. Brown of eyes with a well-trimmed beard, Jon keeps one vanity in the fact that, unlike his father who was already going grey, his hair had rejected that stress.
Description & biography:
He was the heir. Jon could not be more pleased if he was made the High Septom himself. As a boy his mother taught him the of the Seven and how to best follow them. He upheld the law of the land and of the faith in her memory. As a joy, he trained hard to become a Knight shortly before his marriage to Alarra Harlton, a union that was not his first choice. But a husband did not need to love a wife to respect her. That happiness was shattered when his mother died. Jon urged his father to not remarry and let Alarra raise his sister, a babe in swaddling, but his proposal was dismissed. Now with a second mother nearly his age, Jon found nothing in the woman but scorn. He overheard her self-righteous and scornful words towards his father. He saw her fits of rage. Truthfully he thought his father knight put her in a firmer hold. It was two years into his marriage that his wife gave birth to a son, Elmo. The lad was just as he wished. Hearty and healthy But no more children came from his wife and Jon suspected an affair. Keeping such thoughts to himself, he dismissed them as the servants said naught. When his son was Squiring for him, a horse reared and toppled over onto the lad. Leaving Jon's son with a shattered leg, a broken arm, and a bleeding wound on his head from striking a rock. The boy was never the same after that. Walking with a limp and weak arm, the boy would make no knight. His eyesight was not so good as to be a capable lord and his voice quivered slightly. Another disappointment and another son was needed. Lucas and Jon argued hotly about Elmo but for all Jon was certain Elmo could still be a capable Lord of Harrenhal, he was overruled. It was in 41 AC that Elmo was dismissed from Harrenhal by his grandfather and sent to forge a Maester’s chain. Something useful and more to his capabilities. Jon's wife had produced a young son in replacement, and Jon was filled with regret as he watched his eldest boy ride away. Already at odds with his father for not supporting the Faith, he now hated the man for this callous dismissal.

Elmo Harroway

Age:
17 (24 BC)
Appearance:
He has his mother’s green eyes and pale hair, and once his father’s arm and build. Since his accident, Elmo’s form has kept its lean nature, but his muscles have fallen out of fighting shape. Long, nimble fingers and a nose like the sharp prow of a ship. The young man’s face is thin and his skin pale from being indoors. Many from Harrenhal would say he looks like a Maester or a skeleton. Dead, or dying and both would suit his grandfather well. His leg is a mangled mess that can only bear his weight with help of a cane and must be lashed into the saddle. His weakened arm shakes when he has worked it too hard. Thankfully for the lad, it is his left hand and not his right. His eyes though sharp in intellect are poor in vision and perhaps more scornful than they once had been and his mouth frowns more than it smiles.
Description & biography:
He was his father’s pride and the future to his grandfather. A happy child, he was training as a page and then a Squire under his father when another accident struck the family. His horse, a actually horse, was a big knight’s beast. An upgrade from Elmo’s pony as the boy had just turned 14 in the year 38 AC. The horse had been a present from his grandfather, Lord Lucas. But when a cote of the castle’s doves had been released late that day by a servant boy, their sudden flight startled Elmo’s mount and the boy was unable to keep his seat. The pride of his house and the future of Harroway struck the cobbles, his horse falling on him and crushing his leg. The maester did all he could, but the leg did not set right with so many breaks leaving Elmo with a limp. His arm never regained its strength and after cracking his head on the cobbles, his vision was weak at seeing far ranges. Once a robust lad, Elmo found himself confined to bed and chair, learning to walk with a cane while his cousins and young uncle went about their pranks and fun and training. It was a hard thing for the boy to accept and he found himself refusing to greet each day despite his mother’s entreaties. Depressed from this turn in his life and slovenly from his lack of will to actually try aught. It finally was Elayne who convinced him to try reading by leaving some books by his bed during a series of rainy days despite his abuse. With naught else to do, Elmo dived into them and then into learning more. There was nothing else to occupy the lad and his mind was as sharp as other despite the thoughts of the rest of the family. His mother and father both urged him to study whatever he desired, as did the Maester. Realizing that he had been replaced by the birth of his younger brother in the eyes of the castle folk and his grandfather, Elmo became bitter and blunt with most people. Though he quickly understood he was not much higher than Elayne in the minds of the residents of Harrenhal. Unable to apologize to his aunt, he instead taught her what he had learned from Maester and book. Language, the ins and outs of trade, medicines, poisons, and history. So it was Elayne who warned Elmo when she overheard Jon and Lord Lucas arguing over the lad’s fate. So it was to no surprise to Elmo when he found himself set upon a study pony and with a small guard of two men. His fate was to forge a maester’s chain. Something the maester of Harrenhal had encouraged Lucas to send the boy to do. Though a bit older, Elmo had a sound mind and was sharp. Damon has his share of scars and chestnut hair, the latter held back in a horse’s tail. While not as tall as Jon, he still is of a respectable height. His eyes are a handsome green and his face holds his father’s sharp features without the addition of excess. A prow of a nose and sensual lips are set off by a strip of a small, pointed beard and mustache. He dresses as the situation requires.
Description & biography:
The adventurer. Damon grew up always exploring and getting into mischief. He also was often watching the ships that would leave Harrentown to the Narrow Sea. When his father remarried, he was a Squire and had little to do with Catelyn finding the woman to be overbearing. So when he was fifteen he was granted a knight’s spurs at a small tournament in a neighboring town. Not eager to remain in Jon’s shadow, Damon used the purse he won to sponsor a ship and sail it himself. Touring Essos he earned a reputation as a merchant and adventurer returning home rarely. A simple story, but not entirely true. Damon was not consent to stay in Jon’s shadow and he wanted the wealth and power his brother was set to inherit. It was a bitterness that flourished to hatred when his father dismissed his request to pursue Vittoria Tyrell. A woman of such beauty and skill? How could he not desire her? Yet that was not to be and his father knew that Damon had not the standing to interest the Tyrells. Furious, he charted his ship, his others sailed by captains under his pay for a small fleet had been established under his trade. At twenty-two, Damon set off to the sea but with blood in his heart. He set about the Sea under no flag and with no interest in prisoners. Pirating was illegal and not a pastime a Harroway ought to engage in but Damon left no witnesses. The money it brought was good, but Damon still find himself lacking. When he returned home, his father had set him to marry Minisa Butterwell in 36 AC. She was fair enough perhaps, but the girl was an empty vase compared to the woman Damon wanted. Perhaps that was why the young man took his brother’s wife Alarra to his bed with stories of the sea and adventure. Still not sated with the son his wife bore shortly after his wedding night, Alton, a hearty young lad. Damon still seeks wealth and power, to be worthy of Lady Vittoria. Now his eyes steer to the storm that is brewing and how he can best use it. A deceptive man, Damon is willing to lift others higher to get what he desires and his eyes fall on fair Elayne as a pawn in his games.

Alys Harroway

Age:
20 (21 AC)
Appearance:
Soft features from her mother, she did not inherit her father’s nose, but she did get his chestnut hair. Alys was a beauty with her doe brown eyes. With wonderful hips and bountiful curves, she is stout despite her curvaceous form. Essentially she is a beauty, one with the form best suited to childbearing.
Description & biography:
Her mother died when she was only a year old, so Catelyn was the only mother she ever knew. Under the woman’s tutelage, she learned the way of the world and bitterness. From her father, she was favored amongst her sisters. Father’s darling, mother’s pride. She led her sisters and turned a sharp tongue on the servants and Elayne. Her brothers tolerated her, but she was never close to them due to the age difference. Entertaining a few suitors her father finally arranged a marriage to Prince Maegor, granting her as a second wife to the Prince. It appalled Alys, but she had no choice but to accept though she found the union more trouble than it was worth for whispers came about that she was “Maegor’s whore”, “the whore of Harroway”. Taught all her life to follow the Faith of the Seven, Alys found herself breaking their tenants and married to a Prince who chose exile rather than life at court. Exiled and living in Essos, she remains faithful to her husband though she finds herself bitter at her father’s games of power and leaving her to be ridiculed. To Maegor she shows a mild and appealing face, leaving her sharp tongue for other women and servants who entertain her husband. She may be Maegor’s whore but she finds his other whores less than acceptable. With long and deep red hair, she finds herself still considered a beauty even nearing the age of forty. Dressing in silks and gowns with glittering gems. She decorates herself in wealth and masks her age with powders. With green eyes and some freckles, her mouth contains thick lines of smiling and frowning in equal measures at women and men respectfully.
Description & biography:
Catelyn Bracken was a lady of standing her mother always said, then again her mother also called her a future broodmare. It was a harsh truth for a noblewoman that such a fate was hers to deal with. Her father had been a man who needed wealth and when offered it by a good Ser with a small town to call his own? Why not ship off a middling daughter for the marriage! It was such a simple thing and while Catelyn could not call it a happy situation, it had been bearable until their wedding night. Happiness had turned to shambles when her virginity had been claimed by ancient custom. Gargon, the Lord of Harrenhall had come to ruin the day and take a woman to bed. That woman being her. Her new husband would have done well for himself if he had not stood aside. She railed at him later, her honor in tatters as she called him for the craven he was. He had taken her for a wife, to mother the children his first wife had left behind. He had not taken her from her father’s hall to whore for his lord! Yet they had shared the marriage bed, though it had become a stiff formality. That a child was gotten to Catelyn so quickly was thought a blessing by the woman. A son would soothe the hurt and for all her husband may despise her? He could not turn her away for having a son. But a child of silver hair was born, a daughter of Valyrian blood when Lucas nor Catelyn could count such in their ancestry. A bastard then conceived on the wedding night by Gargon the Gross. Catelynn was furious by this betrayal. She cast the girl to a wet nurse, unable to cast her out completely lest she let word get out as to the shame of such a thing happening. For now, it was a rumor, nothing more. She never acknowledged the girl as her daughter, though such was a known fact amongst those serving in the castle. Two more daughters and a son were born to Catelyn and she welcomed them. Teaching them and Alys the realities of the world while she denied such mercy she gave the others to Elayne. When Alys came of age and married Maegor, she saw it as a reasonable match for wealth and power. Though she disapproved of angering the faith so. But her husband had spoken and though they argued, the deed was done. Another wall between husband and wife. Now she searches for matches for her other daughters and her young son. Her eyes sharp and disapproving as she considers ways to use Elayne to her advantage, quietly.

Elayne Rivers

Age:
18 (Mid 23 AC)
Appearance:
A willow woman of middling height, Elayne has her mother’s once graceful form with long slim fingers and curves. Soft green-blue eyes and curling silver hair. Her features are graceful and mark her for who she is. The daughter of Gargon Qoherys, a grandchild of Dragonstone and dragonseed herself. Her skin is not as soft as a lady’s, treated as a servant by her mother and half-sisters.
Description & biography:
Her life had been hard from the start. Born the child of the First Night custom when Lord Gargon Qoherys of Harrenhal claimed his banner lord’s new wife, Catelyn Harroway. Her mother had also bedded her husband shortly after, had she only favored her mother all would have been well. But for her silver hair, she was revealed to which seed she came forth into the world. Her mother rejected her and placed her with a wet nurse. Thus was her life’s course given over. Raised as a bastard she was taught with other children a shadow behind their own glowing lives. Her mother took her rage out on Elayne and her woes. Cursing and rebuffing her needs for love and care. Despite this, Elayne found comfort with the old Septa who looked after the children. Drinking in the kindness the woman offered. Though she never could call Catelyn mother without earning the switch, Elayne adapted. Called the Ghost of Harrenhal by the townsfolk, she was never allowed out of the grounds without her sisters for whom she was a servant. With her pale complexion and beauty, there were a few minstrels and knights who pined for her, though none were allowed to approach and Elayne found herself cursed by her family for their interests. Scorned and shunned, she was the scapegoat of Harroway. When Elmo had his accident and refused to move from bed it was Elayne’s gentle kindness that urged the boy to read at least. That kindness was repaid as Elmo taught Elayne language, medicines, and a variety of things he read about. It was she who warned him he was about to be sent away, for Elayne had learned how to be a shadow. She saw behind the masks of her family and others. She knew how to listen for hidden words, and she spoke even less. Her outlook on life being a quiet stubbornness to see the good in things as the old Septa taught her. Yet there was one in who Elayne could see no good in. Damon who always left, Damon who always came out of his sister by marriage’s rooms at odd hours. Damon, who watched her with appraising eyes. Elayne found reason to fear Damon and avoided him, just as she did Lord Lucas. The latter often speaking of her use only as a potential bargaining chip for her Valyrian blood diluted though it was. Now, she quietly waits and watches. Her skin prickling as she feels the cold gaze of Damon hunting her through Harrenhal’s ruined halls

Jeyne Harroway

Age:
17 (24 BC)
Appearance:
With soft red hair and green eyes, Jeyne is a pretty young maiden. Though her fingers are calloused from the bow and her hair often loose from its proper braids. She wears more practical clothing designed to accent a lean frame. Shorter than all her siblings, she is the most active of the girls.
Description & biography:
Even as a child Jeyne was active and sharp. Eager to get into trouble with her cousins though they were all boys. A constant source of trouble for her mother and father, she did round out into a fair maiden though her secret life of learning how to use a knife and bow from her Uncle Simon, who found her antics amusing. She also learned how to pick pockets and climb from the children in Harrentown when she was not yet a woman. Though now she is kept to mother’s skirts and sight. Her shameless flirting with any man leaving Catelyn vexed with her ‘eldest’ daughter. A fact that Jeyne dislikes. The young woman longs for freedom and adventure. Eagerly eating up Damon’s tales. Only she will be more successful at it. Large doe eyes, chestnut hair with delicate lips. Hanna accents her beauty with silks and satins.
Description & biography:
Another of Catelyn’s daughters, she sees her mother’s life as a failure and wants to be the adored wife of a Lord Paramount of the Realm. With riches and glory at her disposal. A love of horses and needlework. Hanna adores her oldest sister Alys and is eager to perhaps marry a Prince herself, privately scorning Alys for breaking the Faith’s teachings though she will never admit she would do the same thing to become a Queen. Greedy for such things, she is often given gifts of fine fabrics and jewels by Damon. His little whispering bird, she tells him all of what goes on and had spread a few rumors of her own for him.
Description & biography:
Horas was born as the last of Catelyn’s three children so far to Lord Lucas. The youngest of his sons, the lad is a wicked prankster and menace to the servants. Often his antics are blamed on Elayne and he purposefully causes distress to his bastard sister. Idolizing Damon, he sees his knight master Jon as far too stiff. Delighting in the pleasures of kissing girls already, Horas wants to go out to sea like his brother and gain wealth and women. It is Horas who secrets Damon into Alarra’s rooms and he who spies for Damon. Rarely does Horas act against Damon’s instructions.
