The Cloud is drifting aimlessly through space. It's not really orbiting anything which is why the Mining Operation are so dangerous because they need to intercept any passing asteroid and such. Mining it quickly then get back before the asteroid passes the Cloud or vice versa.

Where the ship is going, or was going, no one knows. 

Right now the ship is just lucky that it seems to be passing some floating asteroid formations. When they pass by entirely they're kind of fucked and they know it in terms of new resources coming into the ship unless they get lucky again.
