[@Lucidnonsense] The ship at the moment is moving very, very slowly. Like, laughably so. So the miners union job security has still got a decade or so - if not more - before they have to worry but ship moving one way, plus asteroid moving opposite moving means that the miners still have to be quick with their job lest they end up too far to get back to the dock. Even if they could get back to the ship, if they can't get to the mining dock they'd basically be forced to try and dock and connect with an unknown section of the cloud. Which is pretty much a death sentence for some dudes with mining gear and nothing else. They'd have to be really important or found something really good to justify a search party. The ship at the movement is moving slowly but no one knows if it's always/ has been moving slowly simply because no one has access to the command deck nor the engines as they are in unknown parts of the ship. The only people who's been in position to observe the ship are spacewalker vessels and the Mining Union. For everyone inside they have no way of knowing if its even moving since there are no ports or windows of any sort to see outside. But there SHOULD be an AI running the ship despite it not responding ages ago. So the current accepted theory is that the AI is piloting the ship but to what end and what logic no one knows. But even that is just a blind guess. It could be anything. but there is definitely: a: some sort of a debris defence because nothing seems to hit the ship b: Some sort of force adjusting the ship course and correction. Stopping it getting dragged into orbit or flying into a sun or whatever. How this is achieved is technologically beyond its remaining residents though as no thrusters are seen correcting itself.
