Throughout this period they have remained the overlords of the Westerlands, thanks to their status as the wealthiest Great House in Westeros and their ability to command respect and loyalty from their vassals - severely handling those who step out of line. Their seat is Casterly Rock, a near impregnable castle built into a colossal hill of stone, proudly overlooking the harbour of Lannisport. It is said to stand taller than even the Wall or Hightower of Oldtown, and from atop this great perch they lord over the Westerlands.
Recent History
Dating back to the earliest histories of the First Men and their heroic founder Lann the Clever, House Lannister boasts a storied and proud history - that pride forever carried through the blood in their veins. From atop Casterly Rock, the Lions of Lannister have carved themselves riches beyond imagining, and absolute power in the Westerlands, defeating and making vassals their ancient enemies the Reynes and Baneforts. With the arrival of Aegon Targaryen and his sister-wives from far-off lands, it was Loren Lannister who was charged with the defence of his ancient lands. Loren had never been a wartime leader. Through his life, the Westerlands had held a degree of stability and peaceful relations with their neighbours - and indeed, he was a skilled and attentive King, by all accounts. When war reached their shores, and the news of vicious dragons spread like wildfire, Loren remained within the safety that the Rock provided. One by one, their neighbours fell - the Hoares at Harrenhall, the Durrandons of Storm’s End. The banners had been called and the might of the Westerlands gathered, and even when an alliance was negotiated with Mern IX, Loren hesitated. It was younger brother, Tytos, who spurred the King into action. When had the Lannisters been defeated in battle before? Who could resist the combined might of both the Westerlands and Reach? Would he stand by while the Westerlands was ravaged when the host of invaders arrived? The Field of Fire followed. A battle that started in their favour turned to a fiery massacre - the scorching heat melting the earth beneath their feet, and turning armies to ash. The Gardeners were rendered extinct, and their armies dispersed. Loren bent the knee - and with this wise act, secured the place of House Lannister under the Targaryen crown. His lungs would be forever burnt by the heat he inhaled that day, and Loren Lannister was thereafter wracked by coughs and respiratory illnesses. In the years that followed, many nobles tried their best to secure their place at King’s Landing. Trying to impress their new King as toddlers did a parent, all vying for positions on the recently formed Small Council and within Aegon’s inner circle - but not Loren Lannister. The Lions, while conquered, would never lose the pride in their blood. House Lannister and the Westerlands have remained an inward-looking region of Westeros under the rule of Loren Lannister, and his focus turned most toward his children. Three were born to him after the conquest - his sons, Loreon and Lyman, and a daughter he named Lorelai, the apple of his eye. His rule remained competent, if absent, and Loren was rarely seen outwith the safety of the Rock after the invasion. His brother, Tytos, was named Castellan of the Rock and charged with most duties that required travel. A show-marriage, insisted upon by Queen Visenya, was arranged between Loren’s second-son, Lyman, and Florys Redwyne - and, thankfully, has become a happy union. It was with eldest, Loreon, that the first Lord of Casterly Rock found the most trouble. His son was unsettled, inspired by tales of the lands from which the Targaryens hailed, and determined to forge his destiny across the Narrow Sea. Loreon had been a popular heir - the picture of a perfect Lannister - and an exceptional swordsman. Tytos has insisted his brother refuse the requests for Loreon to travel, and for a time, Loren did so. In 30AC, he relented, and Loreon Lannister departed for what was to be a two-year tour of the free cities. He would not return in less than a decade, and would never see his father alive again. Loren regretted allowing his son to travel, and as the years passed with no contact, became near-certain of his death - but never formally decreed so. His consistent illnesses, coughs, stresses and increasing dependency on wine would eventually lead to a whimpered end for the last King of the Rock, dying in his bed in 37AC. Tytos Lannister, in his position as Castellan of the Rock, took charge of the Westerlands and announced a search for the lost heir in Essos. There had been stories of a Lannister in Essos, travelling from city-to-city, but never official confirmation by way of a letter from Loreon himself. Tytos secretly hoped he would not return. The lordship of the Westerlands suited him. It was a surprise, then, when in 38AC a letter with the signature and seal of Loreon Lannister was delivered to Casterly Rock from a docked merchant at Lannisport. Loreon Lannister was alive, and intended to return home to assume his lordship - with something none had expected. Brightroar - the ancestral, Valyrian Steel blade of House Lannister, lost hundreds of years prior. Loreon Lannister returned in 40AC, to a heroic celebration and welcome. Even Tytos could not hide his glee. Across the Westerlands and throughout Westeros, stories and songs have been sung of the Golden Lion and his adventures in Essos that led to the reclamation of Brightroar. The truth of events has long since been distorted by storytellers, but the popularity of Loreon has surged. At least, among those who are not familiar with him. The Lion of Lannister, wielder of Brightroar, is now Lord Paramount of the Westerlands. How his rule will unfold in the troubling years to come remains to be seen - but those within Casterly Rock have quickly felt their elation turn to concern, to worry. Loreon is not as he once was. His court is stacked with strange foreigners speaking ungodly tongues, and even a Red Priestess of R'hllor has been allowed to make Casterly Rock her home. The Rock, once known as the home of the prideful Lions, has quickly developed a reputation as a place for debauchery and esoteric knowledge. Maps of Essos cover the walls of the throne room, exotic incenses are burned that lay the halls with unknown smells, and Lyseni servants have supplanted most serving staff. There are tales of naked banquets, troupes of mummers, exessive drinking and strange, alchemical experiments and rituals performed by even stranger folk. As religious unrest spreads across Westeros, as whispers of rebellion begin to build, Tytos Lannister fears for the future of his family. His unmistakably golden hair is long and silky, resting at his shoulders. He has eyes of emerald green, flaked with gold. He carries himself confidently, and moves with quiet steps - not unlike a dancer. Since returning from Essos, Loreon’s pale skin can often be seen adorned with decorative ink - symbols and decorative marks across his hands and fingers in colours of blacks, blues and purples. His nails are polished, and dark facepaint is often applied to the shadows of his eyes. His clothes, too, have changed. His preferences have moved from the traditional tabards and cloaks, preferring instead light robes and loose-fitting linens, or silks. His armor has been enamelled entirely with a layer of gold, which is always perfectly polished. Pleasant scents of lemon and spiceflower often follow him, and Loreon is known to have built a large collection of Lyseni perfumes.
Description & Biography
Loreon Lannister carries a relaxed demeanour, with a warm smile that is given easily. He is generous with his wealth, and wins the loyalty of others quickly with his affable, charming nature. Loreon is best known for his exceptional talent with a blade - widely accepted as one of the leading knights of Westeros, with his feats in Essos and the recovery of Brightroar having reinforced this thought, even making him a present-day folk hero. Minstrels sing of the lion that conquered Old Valyria, fought against wretched stone men and overcame firewyrms. The lion that delved into ancient ruins beneath burning sands, and reclaimed the ancestral sword of House Lannister. The truth of events in Essos has already been greatly distorted - but few can say they have not heard the tales. Despite these qualities and near hero-status, Loreon is far from a perfect Lord of Casterly Rock. His heroics have been quickly forgotten by many inhabitants of the rock, who now share their home with mummers, alchemists, serving girls, philosophers, warriors and more folk of peculiar nature from across the narrow sea. The Red Priestess, Lysara, has caused particular offence to the faithful. What is a great love for Essos is seen by some to be a sickness of the mind - he partakes in unashamed debauchery, drinking foreign wines and exotic foods, parading faraway beasts through the halls and inviting mummers to don the ancient armours of lannisters past for impromptu plays. He knows not the finer points of rule, of stately diplomacy and the managing of economies - and as such affords those advisers close to him great influence over the Westerlands. Born in 13AC to great celebration as the firstborn son of Loren Lannister, the boy named Loreon would grow into a popular and fitting heir to the Westerlands in both manner and appearance. He was joined by a younger brother, though he would grow closer with the youngest, his sister Lorelai. Together they spent their youth dreaming of foreign lands - the distant sands and oasis across the narrow sea, the ruins of ancient civilisations from which the Targaryens hailed, and where their ancestor was lost with Brightroar. The promise was made that they would see these lands together. Until this grand adventure, Loreon continued his duties as heir to the Westerlands. He was knighted at fifteen after his first tourney victory, and by this age had already visited with most lords and spent time at their castles as part of his uncle’s plans to introduce the heir to the realm and establish confidence in his upcoming rule. Loreon, as had always been the case, made friends quickly throughout the realm with his easy manner, handsome looks and enviable skill with a blade. On his six and tenth nameday, Loreon made what must have been his hundredth appeal to his father, proposing a tour of the free cities. As ever, it was rejected - but unlike all attempts before, that was not the end of it. Their father had always held a softness for his daughter, who would be successful in convincing him of the worth in his heir making the journey. What neither accounted for, was that only one of them would be permitted to make the trip. So it was that Lorelai was left behind at the docks of Casterly Rock to see off her brother to live out their lifelong dream. For his part, the sorrow of leaving her lasted for less than he would openly admit - he loved his sister, more than any other family. But the lure of Essos was greater. Far greater. The trip was intended to last two years, and be limited to a tour of the free cities. The heir to the rock would not return for a decade, and would see his travels take him far beyond the safety of these cities. What exactly occured in Essos is known to few, for the full tale has never been recounted as a joined narrative. Instead, individual tales of adventures and encounters have been shared - but what is certain is that over the course of a decade, Loreon Lannister tracked down the ancient greatsword of Brightroar and recovered it from a beached wreck somewhere in the Smoking Sea. Tales have been told of encounters with stone men, fights with young bravos, and escaping the wrath of firewyrms - but people have a tendency to exaggerate their exploits. What is also certain, is that the retinue of Loreon Lannister gradually grew throughout his travels, to include both men and women from all walks of life, and from all corners of Essos. One woman in particular, Kinvara - originally of a noble Pentoshi family made destitute, has settled as the paramour of Loreon and has his ear. The two are rarely seen apart for long. Loreon never made an effort to write or communicate to his family at Casterly Rock. Not even his beloved sister, who was left to her fate in Westeros. It was only when word reached him of his fathers passing in 37AC that he announced his intention to return, and finally departed the golden shores of Essos for the docks of Casterly Rock. Upon his return in 40AC, Loreon brought with him a host from Essos that remains to this day - and enacted a week of celebration in honour of his exploits and the returning of Brightroar to House Lannister. These celebrations, a year later, have yet to truly end. Most days are spent revelling over former glories, feasting and loving. Relations with his family have grown icy, with his uncle lamenting the “whorehouse” that has been made of the once proud Rock. Concerned whispers spread through the halls that their lord has been made a follower of R’hllor, that he partakes in esoteric alchemy with strange men from Qohor or sorcerers from Asshai, or worse yet - that he intends to wed the foreign Kinvara. While his stories from Essos may be resigned to his past, the story of Loreon Lannister as Lord Paramount of the Westerlands is set to begin. His beard is patchy and scraggly, but it serves to conceal the second chin he now has - and his figure has grown rounder, softer, in his ageing years. His face is wrinkled, and he walks with a slight limp - but maintains the demeanour and authority of a proud, old lion.
Description & Biography
Ambitious, patient, and proud. Tytos Lannister is not dissimilar to his late brother, but he feels himself unconstrained by the overly cautious ways of Loren. Where he was slow and measured, Tytos is decisive and instinctive. For the most part, those instincts have served him well. He has a good understanding of commerce, rulership, and stately affairs - indeed, none can deny that he has performed admirably as Castellan of the Rock and second most powerful man of the Westerlands, especially in the face of recently challenging circumstances. His temperament has grown fouler since the return of his nephew from foreign adventures, and his days longer. Every dawn brings a new crisis - an altercation between a noble and some foreigner, a new rumour to source the basis of, or some other scandal born from the mummer's farce that inhabits Casterly Rock. Tytos Lannister was born in the shadow of his elder brother, raised with the foremost purpose to support his rule. To this end, Tytos fulfilled his duty faithfully for a great many years. His childhood was spent in endless lectures given by Maester Luton while Loren toured the Westerlands with their father, his marriage to Jeyne Serrett was political and loveless, and his adulthood would be spent as Castellan of the Rock - handling all affairs deemed too menial or time-consuming for the attention of his older brother. The first true disagreement between the brothers came with the arrival of Aegon the Conqueror. Where Loren favoured a defensive strategy, Tytos played an instrumental role in arranging the alliance with Mern IX and encouraged his brother to strike out in force against the approaching invaders. The disaster that followed darkened the relationship between once-close brothers, and Loren would carry the physical scars of the battle to his grave. Rumours of infidelity on the part of Tytos toward his wife did little to bring the brothers closer. Tytos was never formally removed from his post as Castellan of the Rock, but his active duties were greatly reduced. When Loren finally succumbed in his bed, the pair had still not reconciled. Some spoke out for the succession to immediately pass to Lyman Lannister, with the assumption that the eldest son had either perished or chosen never to return. It was amidst these discussions that Tytos Lannister took his opportunity - proclaiming his regency as Castellan of the Rock while attempts were made to locate and bring back to the lost Lannister. This was a goal that would take years - if ever achieved - and in this time, Tytos could work a way to cement his line as lords of the Rock. He did not know how this would be achieved, but unlike his late brother, he did not need to know. He would not be restrained by caution. It was an unwelcome surprise when it was confirmed that not only was Loreon Lannister living, but that he intended to return to Casterly Rock to assume his rightful place, bringing with him Brightroar - thought lost forever. Meeting Loreon at the docks of Casterly Rock would prove to be an even more unwelcome surprise, with their new lord being no longer a man of Westeros - but a stranger of Essos, obsessed with their ways and cultures. Tytos Lannister does not see a future for his family under the hand of Loreon Lannister, nor with the meek Lyman. The future lays with him - and Tytos Lannister is a man ready to seize opportunity.

Three and Twenty Years Old Daughter of the Last King of the Rock Bank and Merchant-Fleet Owner Lorelai Lannister is a golden beauty that shines outward, while inward shadows haunt her deep enough to bury her heart completely. Life began interesting for the Lady Lorelai, the only daughter born to Loren I, the last King of the Rock. In another life, Lady Lorelai would have been Princess Lorelai of the Rock. Though she’s always been ashamed to admit it, she feels absolutely indifferent about the fact, other than heartache for her father. The former King of the Rock would spend countless nights telling her about the histories of the Kings, Queens, Princes, and Princesses of Casterly Rock. She’s heard the tale of Lann the Clever more times than she would like to count. As much as she got Loren’s stories, it’s likely her brothers got them even more numerous. As she looks back on her past, it seems of little surprise to her that she and her older brother would constantly dream aloud of faraway places and adventurous journeys they would make together. In time, her older brother would fixate on one quest above all else: bringing Brightroar back to their father. The two siblings would often spend evenings in one of the libraries of Casterly Rock, pouring over accounts and maps. If they were going to do it, Lorelai was fond of saying, they would do it right. Whereas her older brother threw himself into the training of combat, Lorelai spent her time with books and septas and ingrained within the social circles of Lannisport, and the Westerlands beyond. When he was a young man, and Lorelai just becoming a young Lady, her brother pressed their father on his grand proposal: the journey for both of them to Essos, and further still, to see what they had always dreamed of, to hunt for the ancestral blade of Brightroar. Lorelai’s first great heartbreak was when the former King laughed at the mere suggestion that Lorelai would go, thinking her older brother meant for the youngest Lyman to go with him instead of Lorelai. Afterall, she was to marry the heir of House Crakehall—the first Lorelai had ever heard of such a plan. To her credit, Lorelai worked their father for her older brother, and in the end may have proved a deciding factor in convincing the former King to allow the young heir of Casterly Rock to go on his grand journey that had once been her grand journey, too. Their parting was sad in more ways than Lorelai could count, and their father seemed to grow older by five years overnight after his heir left. Once in a while, in his cups, Loren would admit he considered it “likely” that his heir was dead. Certainly, this would explain the emphasis he put on Lorelai being capable. Though he would train and treat Lyman like his heir, not the girl Lorelai, he would still allow her to learn the intricate ins-and-outs of Lannisport, and the Westerlands. She was also introduced to her intended, Lord and Ser Julien Crakehall. Much to the surprise of both their Houses, the two ignited in a fierce romance. Julien helped fill some hole in her that the loss of her elder brother, and the adventures her heart had been set on. The hole crated the day Tyrell Knights arrived to Casterly Rock to present her with the news of Julien Crakehall’s death in a fierce battle that had also took the life of the Hand of the King. Her lips moved without her mind as shock drowned her as if she had been thrown into a frozen sea, thanking the Knights and their Lord Tyrell for the kindness of informing her so quickly. She didn’t register that they corrected her, that it was Lady Tyrell commanding the host, for nearly a fortnight. Lorelai, in her grief for both her dreams of adventure and dreams of her beloved betrothed, decided she would take what her father provided for her in terms of gold and invest it in ships that would travel where she could not. They would go as far as Asshai by the Sea, and everywhere in-between, generating endless stories from their captains and sailors as much as they generated profit—and the ventures generated an excess of both for Lady Lorelai. She would be the one, not Lyman, to help her mother and maesters in caring for her father as the last King of the Rock slowly died, finally succumbing to the Stranger in 37AC. By that point, young Lyman and their uncle Tytos, Castellan of Casterly Rock, would attend to Lyman’s training as a fighter and overlord of the Westerlands. Her mother would continue to hold court at the Rock and in Lannisport, and Lorelai would join her, the Westerlands still largely operating as if Lannisport and Casterly Rock were still the royal court of the Westerlands. In the vacuum, a strange man who called himself Edwick the Acolyte appeared to Lorelai one evening at one of her mother’s events. Her mother, he explained, had directed him to her now that her father was gone. When she asked what his business was, he smiled at her: “Everything, Princess. Shall we begin?” For the rest of that night, and nearly every night thereafter, Edwick the Acolyte would teach and explain the world to Lorelai as the world was from his point of view—the world of secrets and deceptions, the world of a whisperer. Lorelai buried Edwick in an unmarked grave on a hill half a day’s ride from Lannisport and the Rock, facing East, just as he had instructed her to do before his death. When she returned to Lannisport, small children and old men, both native and foreign, began finding her or sneaking her messages. Edwick’s chain of whisperers was now to be worn by Lorelai. It was Lorelei who informed her mother of her elder brother’s return, nearly a fortnight before he actually arrived.
