As her parents were largely absent throughout her childhood, their military service keeping both of them away from Johanna for long, unspecified periods of time, Johanna was frequently in the care of her grandparents. Whenever her parents were around, Johanna felt a need to cling to them, often refusing to let her parents leave her sight. She didn't want them to disappear again, even if the wings of humanity required them to do so. What if they never returned? That they died on the battlefield, with nothing left for her to remember them with? A young Johanna dreaded to find out, being an almost recurring nightmare for her. Little did Johanna know, however, that her longtime childhood nightmares were soon to be reality. Johanna remembers the day vividly—the day she lost not one, but both of her parents. The air was cool for a summer evening. The moon had been out, and the sound of cicadas echoed throughout the fields. Then, two green cloaks approached the house, and spoke with her grandparents. She ran as fast as she could to their side, expecting her parents to have returned home, but the sight of her grandmother's wailing stopped Johanna in her tracks. The last thing she remembers is running, running far off to seemingly nowhere, with one of the scouts calling after her. After that day, Johanna fell into a depressive cycle. She hardly left her room, and rarely chose to interact with anyone. Nothing could ignite any sort of spark in her eyes—at until she had received another dose of reality. Her grandparents' health was failing, and the farm couldn't support them much longer. Johanna was going to have to do something drastic to ensure she didn't lose another person she cared for, even if it meant following in her parents' footsteps. And that's exactly what she did.
Affiliations

TBD
Character Theme

Not necessary, but can be used if wished.
