The first real recorded history of him is on the rolls of Lannisport City Watch officers. Those who have inquired about him to those who might have known him during such time think, most likely, he had a wife. Then something happened, and Alaric left the Watch and Lannisport, if not left the Westerlands entirely. There are no details, and word of mouth has achieved nothing but contrasting stories. Ever a favorite of his men, and quite capable, but little else is easily agreed upon by multiple parties. It was in Oldtown that he began to display his artisan skills; bowyer, smith, fletcher, and eventually, atilliator. He quickly began to supply the Oldtown City Watch through a friend in the Oldtown City Watch that he had served with in the Lannisport City Watch. Alaric’s workshop became a hotbed of activity, both in terms of sales, and other ends. There are stories of multiple meetings at the workshop, of secret brotherhoods. The more renown the man became in his crafts, the more coin he made. Yet Alaric is said to have kept very little for his own gain, a fact well recorded in the tithing rolls of the Starry Sept: nearly everything he made went to the Faith, and the Faith Militant. There is clear record of Alaric joining the ranks of Officer in the Oldtown City Watch, though it does not seem to have lasted long. There is also record of his expulsion, and it also serves as a measure of his ability with the weapons he crafted: he is known to have defeated three Knights at once with a spear and shield. One of these Knights was a Florent of a lesser branch who demanded a trial by combat. The Florent lost his head in the trial, and those present say the match was never close. Though his superiors in the Watch, and it’s rumored even Lord Hightower, asked for mercy, Alaric is said to have been cold and unflinching steel in removing the Florent’s head. He was removed from the Watch the next day. Where has been since, and what, precisely, he has been up to has remained something of an unknown until he was recently seen speaking to Lords Rowan and Oakheart and the High Septon. It’s said some of the Faith Militant’s arms and armor come from a secret workshop of his. It is undoubted, after close inspection by Maesters of the Citadel, that some of the crossbows used by the Faith Militant bear his maker’s mark. Given his connections both secret and known, given his skill as maker and warrior, given the length of time he has spent in various Watches and guilds, it is hard to imagine a more able member of the Faith Militant. Yet, as always, Alaric has remained a mystery to even his new allies in the Faith Militant: the man’s motivations are mystery, as is just how far he will go to achieve what he desires, not that anyone seems to understand at all what his end game aims to be. Likewise, there are rumors the High Septon has demanded Alaric’s reinstatement into the Blue Cloaks of Oldtown.
