All right here we go. The background kinda got away from me. I think this character's done but I'll probably look at it later with fresh eyes and edit some. One of the things that brings him the most happiness is working on something new and sharing it with others to find they accept and enjoy it. His creativity and adventurous nature make it so he's never bored, always finding some new experience. That said, he can be impulsive and impatient. He often gets so excited to put his new works out into the world that he'll post a half-finished beat or mix and waste time reading the reaction rather than just finishing it. He also has a bit of an indulgent nature, not surprising for one who lives to drive the party forward. If he seems surprisingly frugal it's only because he's got some big purchase or trip he's ready to blow his saved money on. It's a good thing he can turn on the charm because he often finds himself in trouble trying to sneak in somewhere, hitting on the wrong woman, or in general ignoring some rules to get what he wants.
LIKES
Music - playing it, listening, hearing it live, festivals Dancing - let the music move you The Beach - it's much nicer at the ocean than the lake Working out - Calisthenics, Soccer, Weights Traveling - when he can afford it Star Wars - bet you can't guess his favorite character
DISLIKES
Being Alone - it just feels wrong Driving - LA needs better public transport Commitment - but you probably saw that one coming The link between EDM and drugs - it's possible to just enjoy music Video Games - they steal too much of his time
HABITS
Social Media - Unfortunately promoting your work via TikTok and Instagram means spending a lot of time on social media. While most of his posting is focused on his DJing and music, he's fine with taking part in the latest trend or throwing up some thirst trap if it'll draw followers. Music? - Just music. He'll take up a new instrument for a few months. Finding and connecting other musicians on soundcloud. Live music everywhere from dive bars to Coachella. Everything is a potential source of inspiration. Comparing LA unfavorably to Chicago - It's all in good fun. Seriously though, he's moving back next week. Or maybe Miami
FEARS
Having his work completely dismissed Drowning (never stopped him from jumping off a boat though) Needles, he'd like a tattoo someday but....
BACKGROUND
Chuy grew up in a loud crowded house in Chicago. His father (accordion in a local band) and his mother (violin in a mariachi group) were second-generation immigrants: hard-working, frugal, and putting family first. They managed to instill those values along with their love of music in their seven children... mostly. By the time Chuy was growing up, his family had cemented itself in the community and had some money to spare, meaning they could afford to spoil the baby of the family a little bit. While his older siblings had to help out around the house, Chuy was free to run around getting into trouble. His endless energy and impulsivity tested everyone's patience. But who could stay mad at Chuy? Sure, if his brothers had run into a shelf in the garage and knocked everything over, they might've seen the belt. If his sisters had messed with the mixing board before their dad's gig, there might have been real trouble. But when it turned out to just be Chuyito, the crowd just chuckled. He wasn't a spoiled brat though. After all, he still had his share of chores, he was [s]never[/s] rarely just handed anything, and a lot of his clothes and toys were hand-me-downs. But he was treated with more care, and more often than not, he figured how to get what he wanted. While the Ramos' weren't stage parents by an means, they did heavily encourage their children to take up music. Growing up with their mom singing and dancing all over the house, accompanying their parents to their live gigs at weddings and other events, music surrounded them. Between mom who knew how to stretch a dollar, and dad who knew everybody, a quality used instrument was always in reach. Some of the siblings really went all in while others kept music as a side hobby. Chuy grew up enjoying everything his siblings performed, even Dominic who actually wasn't very good. And they were always happy to give him a few lessons; the best way to learn is by teaching after all. For Chuy's part, his attention drifted between instruments a lot, picking one up for a few months then moving on to the next in a pattern that continues to this day. It was a good thing that there were plenty of things sitting around for him to try. While he had longer and more frequent stints on the guitar and the drum kit, the trumpet was what he came back to again and again. In his early teens he got some exposure to the sound tech at live events, between observing his father's own band as well as other groups and DJs at community events. He also got to see what went on in recording and producing when his father's band put together a small recording. He saved up and was able to buy some used equipment from eBay. He cobbled that together with some stuff from the garage into a basic DJ setup and never looked back. His ideas broadened further when he joined his older sister in messing around on production with some pirated software. Chuy got through high school all right. His grades were nothing special, but his life outside of school was a whirlwind. He supplemented his part-time job income with children's guitar lessons and DJing high school parties (to mixed reviews). His older brother's ID got him into some clubs and venues he wouldn't normally be allowed in. Despite what a few incidents of drunken shenanigans suggested, he was first and foremost interested in experiencing everything Chicago's rich music scene had to offer. He's since honed his craft, having skipped college to continue working on music and learning about sound engineering through the magic of the internet. He followed his sister to LA some time ago. He's scored a job as a resident DJ at a local club of decent popularity, playing hip hop, reggaeton, and electronic music depending on the night. His personal sound is house with some Latin influences... for now.
MISCELLANEOUS
As a teenager his sister dragged him along to see We Are Your Friends... Yes, Zac Efron's character is a secret influence on his life. He's since re-evaluated that movie entirely. He doesn't have many secrets, but he'll take this one to his grave.
