He took the strand Perry gave him, put it into another small bottle, carefully labeled it, and returned it to his pocket.

Bethany and Perry both had good points too. Why bother with them if they hated them? If they hadn't, would they have even gotten involved with what was happening here? Possibly not. Unless someone asked them to, if they had only taken people willing to join, it would just be Magneto and all those who wanted to be in space. Ed realized they were stuck in space again. He was really done with being stuck in space.
