In the end, a villain is only as scary as immutable as their resolve to cause misery is. When they have realistic, nay, human goals and go about their business as anyone would, they appear more tame than if there was no rhyme or reason as to why they wanted to do evil. Sometimes it's good to have a villain with a sob story and a real motivation because it roots them in reality, but if you want a big bad evil that everyone will truly fear, this is the way to go haha It's also what makes SCPs so fun to read about
