Have not really thought so much about the events in the game itself, but my initial idea was that that the events that happens in the game would not impact this roleplay, so I guess it would make sense that it would happen before the events of GTA but basically an alternative reality parallel to the game itself.

Yes that is correct, your organization is the gang or other criminal group/organization that you will play and control.
