Nobody knew their last name or even their birth names but this young couple set up their home on the outskirts of Edenridge, in a tent by Eden Lake. They were harmless, sweet even. Often helping out around town with odd jobs to fund their drug habit. When Plum fell pregnant, the couple were convinced to move into an actual house for the sake of the baby. They chose a derelict home near Lyon Park, Cumberland House, perpetuated to have been originally owned by the Scott Family. The house remained in disrepair even as the couple birthed their child, a baby girl whom they named Wednesday. The building began to sink into the ground until the west corner was completely submerged, earning it a re-christening as the Sunken House. Eventually, the people of Eden stopped seeing Leaf and Plum. For over a month, they were missing. Most assumed that the travellers had moved on. It wasn’t until the EPD sent a car to the Sunken House on a wellness check that they uncovered a horrific sight. Seven year old Wednesday was alone in the house, filthy, starved and clinging to life through sheer willpower. When asked where her parents were, Wednesday pointed to the bathroom wall. Eventually, the police demolished it and found Plum, mummified and sealed inside. Leaf was eventually found and arrested for her murder. He claimed to have murdered his wife and abandoned his child in a drug induced rage. He was sentenced to life in prison. As for Wednesday, she remained in the orphanage for a further seven years before she was adopted by the wealthy Davies family which consisted of Arnold, Norma and their two sons Richie and Alastair. It took a while for Wednesday to settle into her new lifestyle, often running back to the orphanage and the people there she considered family which included the psychiatrist Pippa, director Colm and a girl named Lauren who Wednesday adored as a sister. Eventually though, the young woman would find her footing and mature into an intelligent and capable person. She became a gifted surgeon and married Hunter Drake before welcoming two beautiful daughters, Dallas and the subject of our tale, Adelaide. It was obvious from day one that Addie was going to be a handful. She was born a month early and arrived into this world kicking and screaming and grabbing. The sheer amount of energy that the undersized infant had was astounding to the doctors. This was a precursor for much of Adelaide’s young life. As a child, Addie was very hyperactive, constantly running around the house, climbing walls and causing a great deal of chaos much to the chagrin of her rather straight laced older sister and tirelessly working mother. Despite her wild tendencies, it was extremely clear to anyone around her that Addie had an exceptionally high natural IQ. Dallas was a borderline genius and the younger of the two Davies-Drake girls was following suit with way above average test scores. Unfortunately, it was common for people to “not see past the crazy” when it came to Adelaide and thus many didn’t think much of her capabilities. As part of the extended Davies-Drake clans and counting her adoptive family also, Addie was constantly surrounded by family and people which had the undesired effect of ingratiating the idea that the young blonde needed to be with someone twenty four seven; Adelaide did not do good alone. Beneath the frivolity lay a lonely heart, especially when everyone else in her family seemed to excel in whatever they did, at least in her mind. The only person that Addie ever felt like she could really lean on was her father. Hunter, who hid his own demons well, was able to share a burden with his youngest child in a way he couldn’t with Dallas or even with his wife. Underneath it all, Adelaide was a daddy’s girl but that didn’t mean she didn’t worship her mom. Wednesday at home and with friends was this playful, teasingly wild creature much like her baby girl but when it came to work, she was stoically serious, ice cold even, a tool moulded for precision. Wednesday the surgeon was scary sometimes and that rubbed off on both of her children in different ways. Dallas adopted much of that persona into her own personality whereas “The Surgeon” scared Addie to death and on one particular evening, scarred her for life. One night, when she was around seven, Addie was in bed waiting for her mom to come home from work. It was a night caught in the middle of one of Edenridge’s legendary storms. She wasn’t supposed to awake, it was very late but she wanted to show Wednesday what she had made at school that day. When she heard the front door open, Addie crept out of bed and at warp speed she flew down the stairs of her home only to be greeted by a terrifying sight. Standing in the doorway, illuminated only by lightning behind her like some horror film was a monster, soaking wet and covered in blood. Addie screamed a guttural scream, awaking her father from his slumber on the couch and Dallas from the bed. They both ran to the small girl when the light switched on, they found Adelaide cowering under the stairs, “the monster” reaching for her. In reality, it was Wednesday. She had apparently stopped to help at a roadside accident and got covered in the victim's blood. Even with the clarity of light displaying her mother’s beautiful face, the damage had been done. From that moment forward, Addie developed an irrational fear of doors because “they let monsters in”. Although she uses them, the pixie would prefer to climb through a window and most of her family and friends leave one unlocked especially for her. Adelaide found a passion in the strangest place; her grandmother's garden. Whilst visiting one hot summer's day, young Addie was banished to the garden for destroying one of her grandfather's trophies. It was there she began helping her gran pot some plants. Something about the smell and the feel of the grass between her fingers and toes soothed the fires in her mind and Adelaide found a happy place amongst the flowers and she began her journey towards becoming a botanist. When Addie got into high school, she joined the soccer team as a freshmen, her manic energy being a perfect fit for the aggressive Celtics. It was during this time when the pixie dream girl was officially diagnosed with Hypersexuality and ADHD. Adelaide’s impulse control had always been lacking and her borderline obsession with women (she had known she was gay since she was like four) could now finally be explained. Addie revelled in finally knowing why she was bouncing off of walls and leaned into her new truth. She was mad, bad and ready to smash. It was Addie’s first day as a junior at Edenridge High when Charlie Decker set the world on fire. She was in the bathroom by the gym (her usual hook up place) with Natalia Belmonte, Verity Roy and Devika Balakrishnan when the shooting started. After both Vez and Devi made their escape, Tal and Addie headed towards the gym, only to be greeted by the sight of Charlie himself being gunned down. To this day, only the two of them know that they were there, a secret the girls have sworn to keep for reasons only their own. Addie being Addie, she appeared to shrug off the events and move forward but what people don’t realise is that she is haunted by that day, significantly so to the point she has not told anyone she cares about her true feelings. After high school, Addie began studying Botany and Biochemistry at Boston University, with a goal of earning her doctorate. She visits Eden often and sometimes works the front desk at her father’s security company, Iron Resolve. Since high school she had also been in a constantly growing and ever changing polyamorous relationship with several beautiful Edenites. One could ask the question how Addie has the energy to do it all, a question that was once asked of her mother. In turn, Addie would simply quote one of her heroes.
