Name: Javier Lorenzo Cruz (Javi, Money) Age/DOB: 1/5/1995 Gender: Male Appearance: Height: 5’9” Weight: 190 lbs Brown eyes, dark hair just a bit shaggier than military standard, well muscled with a strong jaw and classic Mexican-American features. He typically keeps a 5 o’clock shadow just to keep from looking like the baby-faced 25-year-old that he is. In conversation he’s laid back and friendly but self-assured, with the carriage and confidence one typically associates with military types, and his very recent departure from Navy service means he tends to keep his posture erect and his eye-contact intense. Patient Number: 323867431 History: PO1 Cruz is a 25-year-old man (NOS E300). He was born and raised in California, and has served multiple combat tours. He serves as one of his Team’s snipers. This evaluation is being performed at the request of his CO, regarding the events of Operation Razorback. The following information was provided by: SCPO Donner, Maxwell S. LCDR Festejo-Santos, Piolo PO1 Cruz has recently been exposed to a traumatic scenario on his last deployment. His leadership is concerned that he may be handling events poorly. Current Symptoms: PO1 Cruz is usually friendly, outgoing, and eager to perform his duties. He gets along well with other members of his team. Lately he has been demonstrating a shortened attention span, irritability, and a lack of motivation. This behavior is unusual. He has reported insomnia and occasional migraines (possibly due to previous IED strike; cross reference with medical). He responds to orders slowly, and often with sarcasm. He seems to be disillusioned with Navy life and the mission of Navy WARCOM. This is also unusual behavior. Suicidal Ideations: PO1 Cruz has claimed he has no suicidal ideations or desire for self harm. Medical History: See patient medical records for pertinent information. Exam: PO1 Cruz is well groomed and his uniform is within standard. He seems fidgety and irritable, not uncommon for combat personnel who are sent for psychiatric evaluation. He appears tired, and admits to recent insomnia. During our interview several troubling things did arise. PO1 Cruz appears to have delusions regarding his participation in Operation Razorback (see attached interview). He made statements hinting at a government cover-up, and claims to have been interviewed by unknown government agents. His CO denies knowledge of this event. Towards the end of the interview he became agitated and left the interview early. Diagnoses: Insomnia Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, with Depression Possible psychosis (could also stem from his TBI, see medical record for details) Instructions / Recommendations / Plan: Recommend regular group therapy meetings (combat veterans group), as well as individual therapy. Will consider medication if things do not improve, but due to possible impact on operational capabilities this should be avoided for now. As a personal note: I’m not aware of PO1 Cruz’s career plans, but I recommend against allowing him to reenlist. Electronically Signed Dr. Min, Peter M.D. On: 20191026 0830
Dr. Min, Peter: It is currently 0847 on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. This interview is with Petty Officer 1st Class Javier Cruz, regarding his recent difficulties following Operation Razorback. Before we begin, I have been cleared to receive the following details regarding Operation Razorback, and this interview will be classified appropriately. Let’s get started. How are you feeling today? PO1 Cruz: I’m fine, sir. (*Patient is stiff, overly formal, clearly irritated) Min: Don’t worry about calling me ‘sir’. I’m a civilian, just a Navy employee. You don’t have to treat me like an officer, I just need you to be honest with me. So, how are you feeling? Cruz: Like I don’t need to be here. Min: Why do you think you’re here? Cruz: Because I didn’t shut up when I was told to. Min: You feel as though you’re being persecuted? (*Patient does not respond verbally, instead crossing his arms and glaring) Min: Tell me about Operation Razorback. Cruz: Need to know. Min: I’m cleared. I can show you the papers, if you like. Cruz: Don’t bother, it’s your ass if you’re lying. Min: Very true. So? Cruz: Razorback was…Fucked up. We went out to try and take down Al-Rueb, local ISIS commander. Name means “The Terror”, something like that. Night op, we left at zero-stupid. Went to his compound, he had one of those old walled-in joints, you might’ve seen ‘em. Min: I haven’t been to the Middle East. Cruz: Yeah, I figured. Min: Tell me about what happened. Cruz: We approached the compound, got within about 200 yards, and something tipped ‘em off. Don’t know what. We started taking fire from the compound walls, I mean heavy fucking fire. No RPG’s, thank Christ, but machine guns, AK’s, heavy small arms fire. Vasquez went down almost immediately. Head shot, never even saw it coming. Min: This is PO3 Vasquez? Cruz: (*Patient becomes hostile) Don’t ask stupid questions. You’ve got it all written down. Min: Just clarifying, my apologies. Please, go on. Cruz: So we start taking fire, we return fire. Shit’s hot. We’re kind of in the open, there’s some rocks and shit for cover but we can’t really maneuver. And the fire’s not letting up. They’re not going down. Min: When you say they’re not going down…? Cruz: I mean they’re not going down. No matter how many of them we shoot, it’s like there’s no end to them. I saw guys taking hits, multiple hits. I was making multiple hits. Nothing. No effect on target. No impact, no idea. Min: I see. Perhaps you weren’t actually hitting them? Cruz: I don’t miss. Min: So you’re positive you were making good hits. Cruz: I don’t miss. Not at that range. I’m a fucking sniper, 200 yards is kiddy shit. I can drop bodies at 200 yards upside down and getting a blowjob. When I say I was putting rounds in heads, that’s what I mean. (*Patient is agitated again) Min: Alright. I apologize. What happened next? Cruz: The incoming just stopped. All of a sudden. Like, out of nowhere just stopped. (*Patient trails off for several seconds). So we go in. We probably shoulda waited, you shouldn’t just rush in, but we had wounded, we had one dead. We were pissed. So we go in. Doc stays with the wounded, Cannibal takes us in - Min: Cannibal. That’s Senior Chief Petty Officer Donner, correct? Cruz: Yeah. So he takes us in. (*Patient trails off again) Min: And what do you see? Cruz: They’re dead. Like, all of ‘em. And they’re shot to shit. We were making hits. There’s dudes with their guts hanging out, heads fuckin’ split. I know what 7.62 does when it hits somebody, and I’m seeing that, and 5.56, and I’m seeing the 40mm hits. Some of these guys are in pieces. Min: So you did make kills. Cruz: No, motherfucker, we made hits. Every one of these guys is on the walls, like they all just fell over all of a sudden. Shit doesn’t make sense. They were taking these rounds and still fighting. Min: You understand that isn’t possible. Cruz: I understand you weren’t fucking there. Neither were the guys who came to my house and told me that I didn’t see what I thought I saw. The fucking - (*Patient clams up) Min: Tell me about them. Cruz: No. Min: I want to know. Sincerely. Cruz: Bullshit. Min: Have others on your team been visited by these… Individuals? Cruz: We don’t talk about it. I’m done talking about it. (*Patient stands to leave) Min: I’d like to talk about this some more - Cruz: Fuck you. Fuck all of this. I know what I saw. You’re just gonna tell the higher ups whatever they want to hear. None of this shit matters anyway. (*Patient leaves, interview over)

Bonds: SCPO Max Donner, AKA Cannibal (his mentor during his time with the SEALs) Maria Cruz (mother) Rosa Avila (grandmother) Mark Jerczyk (Childhood friend, now a junior lawyer at Neubaum Criminal Defense Attorneys) Isabella (Lizzie) Cruz, (younger sister) Motivations: Service to his country, challenging himself and overcoming those challenges. He wants to prove to himself and to the world that he’s not just some pansy rich kid, that he can face all challengers and come out on top. Fears: Failure. Not just not beating his PR, or not making a shot, but real failure. Mission failure. Fucking up so badly he gets members of his Team killed.
