He used this knowledge to create an artificial Green Lantern ring. This pseudo-ring gives Lio the ability to fly, shoot energy blasts, and connect with wireless networks. The pseudo-ring has the potential to create energy constructs, but Lio hasn’t figured out how to do that yet. Like an actual Green Lantern ring, the pseudo-ring needs to be recharged. Rather than having a personal charging lantern, Lio recharges at a massive battery at S.T.A.R. labs Jump City branch.
Backstory:
Lio was born on Native American land in the southern border of California, a member of the Kumeyaay tribe. At a young age his parents would split as they weren’t right for each other. Wanting a better life for herself and her son, Lio’s mother would move them north to Jump City. Once in school Lio would excel, especially in science class. By the time he was a teenager, Lio’s academics would be noticed by S.T.A.R. labs. The research company would invite Lio to join their young scientist’s program. For most of his teenage years Lio would split his time between school and the lab, his focus being on re-creating superhero powers. Upon graduating as valedictorian of Jump City High West, Lio would become a full time employee of S.T.A.R. labs. It was during this time that he would be placed on a secret project. S.T.A.R. labs had managed to recover a Green Lantern power ring off a dead Lantern Corpsman. Lio would be tasked with recreating the technology of the ring. Lio would spend almost a year working on the pseudo-ring, eventually having a breakthrough and activating it himself. But his team wasn’t the only ones made aware of the pseudo-ring working, as a spy for a massive corporation passed on that knowledge. The very next day a team of infiltrators broke into the lab and attempted to obtain the pseudo-ring. Luckily Lio was there and used the ring to fight off the attempted robbers. This battle at S.T.A.R. labs ended up making the news, Lio declared a new hero. This attracted the attention of Green Lantern of the Justice League. He came to reclaim the power ring that S.T.A.R. labs had been studying, wishing to return it to the Green Lantern Corps. The hero would initially want Lio’s pseudo-ring as well, but after a long conversation Green Lantern allowed him to keep it if he used it as a hero and promised not to create anymore. Green Lantern would also add the stipulation that Lio needed to train with other heroes, referring him to the Teen Titans.
Fandom origin:
OC (Based on Green Lantern)
Personality:
Lio is very task driven, always working on something. While in the past this focus has been on research projects, Lio has now thrown himself full force into becoming a superhero. But a downside to this focus is that he can sometimes ignore those around him. Lio will occasionally miss emotional or social cues, appearing uncaring or distant. But the reality is that it’s not a choice, his brain just won’t allow him to focus on multiple things equally. Another aspect of Lio is that he has never dated. While in high school, people chocked it up to Lio being too busy with his studies. However the truth is that Lio is asexual and aromantic. As Lio doesn’t socialize much he has yet to make the realization, figuring that he is the same as everyone else.
Other:
The pseudo-ring looks like a regular silver ring as to blend in. It has no symbol or markings on it.
Post color:
#BCBFA3
Speech color:
#26FF60
Character Intro:
Lio was working way overtime at S.T.A.R. labs. His taxi had pulled into the lab’s parking lot when the sky was still red with the rising sun, prepared for a standard day. And yet the window in his room now showed a pitch black sky. But Lio didn’t mind as he looked over the cybernetic appendage once more. Like most regional S.T.A.R. labs locations, the Jump City branch had a particular focus. It seemed to Lio that most city branches catered their research to the local heroes. For instance, the Metropolis branch studied heavily kryptonite and alien physiologies because of Superman. But Lio was working on a robotic arm, a possible upgrade for Cyborg of the Teen Titans. One couldn’t live in Jump City without possibly knowing of the Teen Titans. The young heroes had been defenders of the California city for a while now and were generally loved. It was odd for Lio to think that he know was technically a member of the team. Granted he was more a probationary member, added on the insistence of Green Lantern. Lio did sometimes wonder why he was placed on the Titans and not the Justice League, but then always decided that Green Lantern knew what he was doing. Not that Lio minded being a member, in any capacity, of the Teen Titans. He had met with the team a few times, starting to get to know the other members. He had particularly hit it off with Cyborg, perhaps due to their shared tech based powers. In fact, Lio thought it would be wonderful if Cyborg did end up using this cybernetic limb he had been working on. Except it had a problem right now that it would lock up randomly and not accept any commands. This problem had been puzzling Lio for a few hours now. Lio had considered using his pseudo-ring to try and interact with it, but he remembered that he had signed an agreement with his bosses to not use the ring at S.T.A.R. labs without prior approval. And given how late it was now, none of Lio’s bosses were even here to approve anything. Lio also had to remind himself not to call them this late either, has he had been scolded for doing that in the past. “You’re still here?” said someone behind Lio, breaking his focus. Lio turned to see Dr. Kirk, formerly his adviser during his young scientist program days. The older man’s eyes were red from lack of sleep, his hair and beard disheveled. It was only while looking at the doctor that Lio realized how tired he was himself. He had a stinging in his eyes from his own lack of sleep, his black hair was a mess, and he really needed a shave. “Yep, just wanted to figure this out,” replied Lio, “So, why are you here?” Dr. Kirk yawned, “I wanted to be here when the scan of that ship was complete. Even with multiple super-computers, it still took many hours to scan that alien ship the League recovered.” Lio realized that was a much better reason for staying late than he had. If he was thinking objectively, Lio knew he would probably make more progress with a rested mind and body. Dr. Kirk seemed to notice said thought without a word being said. “Look, why don’t we punch out together,” suggested the doctor. Stifling a yawn, Lio just nodded. He would then secure his lab, ready to return in the morning. Dr. Kirk was standing out in the hallway waiting for Lio. The pair said nothing as they made their way to the entrance of the Jump City branch. They passed by security without the guard saying anything, apparently used to the researchers keeping all kinds of odd hours. “Do you need a ride?” asked Dr. Kirk. Lio shook his head, “I think I’ll take the skies.” Dr. Kirk smiled, before giving Lio a thumbs up. As the doctor drove away, Lio just breathed in the night air. With his lungs now filled with the coastal air, Lio walked out of the parking lot. Once a block away he stopped, as he was now definitely off S.T.A.R. labs property. Lio then raised a fist into the air, a silver ring on a finger. Suddenly, silver energy encompassed Lio, creating an outline around his body. He then began to rise off the sidewalk, before bursting into the air. Soon he was traveling among the clouds, bathed in starlight. The silver blur that was Lio would race around the Jump City skyline, before setting down somewhere in the city’s western portion.
