[FEDERATION][/sub]
▬▬ Map Location ▬▬

The Triune is a trio of systems situated on the southeasternmost edge of the Periphery that, officially speaking, doesn't exist. Selected as the cradle in which the Orion Reclamation Network (or ORN) would eventually be built, the members of the secret military cabal which spearheaded the project did their best to keep their work under wraps. Even going so far as to build an interdiction field of sorts that cut off all hyperlane access to and from these systems--forcing those who would find it, as well as ORN, to rely upon subluminal methods of travel instead--in addition to scrubbing Federation records of any and all evidence that could so much as hint to the existence of the project or ORN's location. Being an artificial superintelligence, ORN holds complete and total control over the machines it creates, ensuring that there is no division among them save for that which is caused by a malicious act of cyber or electronic warfare. Furthermore, while these machines can be separated from ORN's control and reprogrammed with enough knowhow or effort, ORN can obviously hack back in and regain control should the new security measures not be up to snuff. Finally, it should also be noted that certain redundancies such as embedded instructions, objectives, and commands--as well as basic programming--do remain within each and every one of these machines. This allows them to carry out ORN's will for a time even if they are cut off from it, and is the main reason as to why reprogramming them is a necessity. In regards to the Orion Reclamation Network itself, although it typically operates as a singular entity, it is capable of creating subminds to oversee certain tasks. Three of these have been initialized thus far; they are EIRENE (designed and designated to handle matters of diplomacy and negotiation), SET (designed and designated to handle matters of warfare and reclamation), and ANANSI (designed and designated to handle everything related to cyberwarfare and infiltration). Each of these subminds have also been assigned a physical form by ORN based on their respective personalities in order to help distinguish them better. EIRENE's is practically identical to a human's in appearance, whereas SET's takes more after the traditional mythological depiction of the deity (only with a transhumanistic bent), and ANANSI's is spiderlike and blatantly mechanical in nature. Interestingly enough, while ORN does not use and indeed was not assigned a gender upon being created, all of its submind's physical forms are decidedly feminine. The exact reasoning behind this design choice remains a mystery. One known only to the artificial superintelligence itself.
▬▬ Demographics ▬▬
Machines building machines building machines building machines...
▬▬ Military ▬▬
Autowars: Autowars are a class of Neumann-capable sophont warship, which utilize their on-board resources to rapidly reconfigure according to prevailing battlefield conditions, goals, and enemy threats. Hypothetically the controlling intelligence of each and every autowar is ORN, but in actual practice each swarm is overseen by one of SET's subminds (or daughters as she calls them). These governing autowars are often the mobile manufacturing bases themselves, though all of SET's daughters may take other roles within their respective fleets if they or their 'mother' so desire. Rather than being generalists that attempt to adequately adapt to different enemy capabilities or different situational needs, these war machines instead reformat their substrate and alter their tactics on the fly to produce several 'classes' of specialist warships, each tailor-made for a specific threat, task, or strategy. Although this section could not possibly encompass the vast array of designs and sub-specializations autowars are known for, there are an array of abilities and basic design concepts that can be said to exist in every autowar's warchive or design template. A great deal of the success of the autowar as implemented during conflict can be directly attributed to their unrivaled flexibility. Each autowar has an interior filled with feedstock, modular multipurpose nanofactories, and an extensive, if abridged, warchive as well as gravitic tractor beam emitters to more easily capture resources and prey. The specific makeup and number of autowar swarms present in a location might vary on a daily basis, as they reconfigure, grow, split into smaller units, or combine into larger units. A basic autowar will be preloaded with both energy and projectile-based weapon systems, such as multi-gigawatt x-ray or UV lasers, torch missiles, and dumbfire railguns for example. Torch missiles have powerful reaction drives that allow them to rapidly close with an enemy several light seconds away, something they typically do before detonating an antimatter-core nuclear device in order to boost an on-board x-ray laser system. This effectively allows them to bore through the walls of enemy emplacements as well as the hulls of ships, after which they detonate, dealing massive amounts of damage to the building or ship's internal structure as a result. Autowars can and do cannibalize their own internal systems to create new, more effective weapon systems whenever necessary. This is to some extent determined by the resources available in their operating environment, but is primarily dependent upon their current enemies and goals. Individual autowars which are members of a fleet can reconfigure themselves to perform specialized roles in a matter of days, hours, or even minutes, depending on the complexity of changes needed. Most, but not all, autowars are designed to be deployed on interplanetary scales. Gravitic and fusion-pulse propulsion systems are among the most commonly utilized propulsion methods. If needed, they can also 'grow' interstellar-capable hyperdrive systems for the purposes of redeployment. Once deployed to a target system, a swarm's members will typically reconfigure their drive systems to types more appropriate for interplanetary travel and fleet-based engagements. Once in-system, these may be retained, or reconfigured to various fusion and gravitic drives with greater maneuverability and alternate fuel requirements. The smallest forms of specialists within an autowar swarm tend to be used as escorts, with limited weaponry but a great deal of maneuverability. These autowars will usually employ UV or X-ray lasers for both offense and point-defense, and carry torch missiles. Some might utilize nuclear pulse drives, which can also double as a weapon system if needed. They may also employ swarms of their own, such as aerospace drone fighters, vacuum-capable nanoswarms, or sensory/surveillance satellites. These autowars may be physically small, less than a hundred meters along their longest axis, but still quite massive, especially when outfitted with more powerful weaponry. The largest form, or specialist, in an autowar swarm is the mobile manufacturing base or Virion. This sub-class specializes in cannibalizing enemy resources such as disabled ships, enemy habs, or damaged/destroyed friendly units. These autowars fulfill that role by using scavenged resources to produce new autowars (typically manufactured along and released from the ring which surrounds their core structure), fuel/propellant, munitions for weapons, or hardened infrastructure for allied forces. These autowars tend to be a dozen or so kilometers along each axis, and are not normally exposed to direct conflict as their size and lack of maneuverability makes them easy targets. Warforms: Warform is the generic label applied to all machines manufactured by autowars for the purposes of planetary warfare, invasion, subjugation or defense. Even broader in terms of form and function than the classification of machines that are responsible for creating them, these constructs range from roughly humanoid looking drones designed to match their biological counterparts in a wide variety of situations and environments, to massive quadruped titans that tower over the battlefield and are capable of laying down blistering amounts of energetic, kinetic, and explosive ordinance -- as well as everything in-between. Regardless, some concrete unit types and specializations have been noted. These include, but are certainly not limited to... Generalists all around, these drones are meant to serve as the primary fighting force in planetary invasions, and they are quite effective in that regard. This is due in no small part to their ability to adapt to and withstand various detrimental conditions on the battlefield (to say nothing of enemy fire), as well as their usage of things like caseless ammunition and depleted uranium rounds. ‎ [*]Kraken Decimator [Juggernaut - Mid/Backline]: These heavily armed and armored machines are slow to move but deadly when provoked. Decimators are walking bricks that can tank a lot and dish out even more, but are sluggish when it comes to general movement and overall reaction time. Not that it matters, however, because anyone who has the misfortune of attracting a Decimator's attention won't live long enough to amend that mistake in any case. This is due to their weapons, since they typically field heavier ordinance to aid them in their role as juggernauts and mid-to-backline troops. Such weaponry includes things like belt-fed grenade launchers, microwave-sized machine guns that fire explosive rounds capable of eviscerating unarmored targets, and what can only be described as handheld artillery pieces, just to name a few. They are almost always deployed in pairs, generally to stand guard over any Icarus drones or other vital assets that happen to be on the field, although three or even four-man squads will be sent out to eliminate particularly stubborn pockets of resistance should the need arise. ‎ [*]Icarus Anti-Psi Drone [Anti-Psionic - Backline]: The Icarus is basically a floating anti-psionic pylon thanks to built-in anti-grav technology. Although they are taken down rather easily with concentrated small arms fire, and outright obliterated by heavier ordinance, the real danger of the Icarus Anti-Psi Drone lies in its function. For, contrary to what its macabre appearance might suggest, these machines are designed to project a field of highly disruptive (and invisible to non-psychics) energy that blinds those who possess psionic capabilities. Leaving them too disoriented to effectively call upon their powers for as long as they remain within its area of effect, hence the name. For, much like Icarus, psychics must be careful lest they fly too close to the sun. ‎ [*]Invictus Hunter Killer Unit [Specialist - Awaiting Deployment]: The hunter killer unit is perhaps the fastest, deadliest, and most resilient construct in ORN's arsenal. Thankfully, it is only deployed under extreme circumstances, usually to track down and eliminate high-value targets such as military generals, political leaders, and so on. Furthermore, it appears as though only one of these units can be active at any given time -- though the reason for this is unknown. It is best confronted with squads of heavily armed and armored personnel rather than standard infantry, as the Invictus will absolutely shred through the latter no matter how many people you throw its way.

▬▬ History ▬▬
Created during the opening years of the barbarian invasion by a secretive cabal of high-ranking Federation military members, ORN has been left on ice in the Triune for a majority of that time and only re-awakened recently to reassert the Federation's control over the wayward sector. Unfortunately for those who would choose to oppose it, however, ORN does not take no for an answer. Should a successor state refuse to heed its calls to return to the fold or fail to work towards the restoration of the Federation, that polity will be brought to heel through subterfuge and force. All of its drones possess an overwhelmingly authoritarian and inhuman form factor to aid in this endeavor.
