It takes place in a completely fantasy world. Things were pretty different before the apocalypse, but it was more magic/magitek-based than strictly technology-based, and also had more things available for learning about magic(while now, those things are either all burned to ashes, hidden away from society, or only available to the five evil knights/the powerful people who side with them). [i]Everyone[/i] can still use magic, though; it's just that most of the common people don't know how to refine/master it easily, because they don't have access to said magic learning things. You [i]are[/i] still able to master magic; it'll just take [i]a lot[/i] more time than if you had the magic learning things to fall back on.
