While everyone else will be using their bronze, he'll be learning where his bronze is. He's more of a brains over bronze kind of character. A young gun in the making, if you will. I'm not entirely sure how he'd meet Gerald or if he even would, up until delivery of his daughter. Maybe he'd take bits and pieces of information to piece about JM's whereabouts or join a group that's already been formed. Wit can be useful sometimes. You know who needs vehicles? Bounty hunters. Who's going to fix said vehicles? Well... If you don't think this type of character suits the story, I understand.
