There's an alternate world book by Randall Garret about a noble named Lord Darcy, he and his forensic sorcerer investigates events involving nobles. There's tech, but a lot of it is very steampunk - wooden sailing ships, carriages, steam locomotives (of course, it was very much a [i]Murder on the Orient Express[/i] style), and preserver boxes. While duels are fought, usually it's with swords, not magic.
