Sometimes she relinquishes control to it— lets it speak for her, act for her— resigning to the passenger seat while it makes a charmer out of her. This new spiritual tenant has become somewhat of a friend, a wingman even, and it meets another girl and the girl likes it— likes her or the her that’s influenced by it— and they date.

But then there are the black outs. The increased recklessness. Amplified irascibility. And stranger and stranger impulses. She quickly finds that the entity is no friend. It wishes to disseminate to more vessels, starting with the pretty girl she just started seeing.

They even shared the same birthdays. If fate wasn't real, then what was the science behind their perfect entanglement? 

Well, contrary to their fairytale beginnings A supposed they couldn't have been that perfect. Their friendship didn't survive past college freshman year, couldn't even beat the national average statistical probability of failure, so [i]really[/i], how unique could their friendship have been?

Now four years later, A was graduating and moving soon too, like a fledgling embarking into the world. But her friends pleaded with her: [i]"Please, please, please, come on a trip with us! You're due for a getaway and you have the rest of your life to sell your soul to corporate, but please, just this once, join us for a long weekend!"[/i] And that she did. She entrusted her friends to plan their weekend getaway-- a 4-day retreat to a chalet tucked away in the Austrian Alps. Then finally, the day of departure arrived, and all A had to do was [i]show up[/i] and [i]try[/i] to have fun, but then... she saw [i]her[/i].

If fate wasn't real, and she was to believe that the concept of destiny was simply a story, a byproduct of one colossal misunderstanding of statistical anomalies invented by whimsical dreamers, then there had to a puppeteer out there somewhere orchestrating her life. It was too late to drop out of this trip now, and the worse was still yet to come. Nothing could have prepared A for this freak encounter, for the painfully awkward plane ride, and of course, the snowstorm that would sweep over them that very weekend, trapping A, B, and their mutual friend group, in their chalet for much longer than just 4 days.
