To say he was wearing himself a bit thin was an understatement. His guilt for several things had begun eating away at him, causing him to throw himself into helping those they saved off the Asteroid. Acting as a ferryman for those that needed medical care, taking them twixt James and Mansion so they could be cared for by his mutant clinic. His skills from the Mutant Underground also kicked in, allowing him to call any contacts he could to find locations for the mutants to go for the ones who had nowhere else to turn to. Any who wished it, he would portal to a new local, using his gifts to help all those in need. In the nights he'd often open a rift back to New Orleans. To sing his son to sleep and see his family outside of work. Too many times did he come back exhausted, too many times falling asleep in Ben's arms as they relaxed and spoke of the day. The days he was late to see his son awake were the worst. Having gotten into a small argument at least once about his tardiness. Though Max suspected there was more underlying the tension. Primarily his time at the place both his husband and best friend despised. When Max had caught wind of Perry's Parties, he thought it was an excellent idea. Both wanting to see how she flourished in her new team as well as using it as a way for him to meld in better with the rest. He brought over beignets straight from Cafe Du Monde, paying out for hundreds of them so that everyone could share in the New Orleans pastry. It's because of this, all his time spent helping, playing father and husband, as well as attempting to keep an eye on the newcomers (as if he wasn't new himself), that he hardly noticed Mary's absence or Guins attitude. To him she seemed no different than anytime they'd encountered each other before, and Max gave Mary a wide berth usually as he still felt a twinge of unease that such an archaic force was locked up alongside the woman who'd seemed eager to fight and kill back in Wanda's World. He could tell Mary was different, that she wasn't her, but that didn't shake his unease. As Max roamed the halls of the mansion, making his way to find either Avery or Ed, he'd heard Perry bemoaning about her boredom. A smile crept onto his face and before he knew it he'd turned the corner and said ”Hey bored, I'm Max” The smile quickly left his face as he ran over hand through his hair in shock. ”Oh no…the dad jokes have already started…I'm too young to be telling dad jokes” He said as he glanced up and saw Jacklyn was with her, waving meekly at the pair.
