What she'll tell you Melicia would tell you that she is the second and youngest daughter of Xavier Gibbs, and his wife, Maya Gibbs who are both archaeologists. Her parents were present but very busy in their jobs so they taught Melicia and her older sister, Attica, how to cook at care for themselves for those busy evenings. Still, they were a right knit family. They weren't super rich but they were very much comfortable. Their family were based i Seattle but would move quite frequently for her parents' jobs. Melicia notes that her father sparked her love of studying. He had a deep passion for learning not only things inside his field but in all academic areas. He encouraged Melicia's thirst for knowledge and helped her deepen it. Her sister, however, seemed to branch off differently from thei parents, getting into the arts. Attica eventually decided to be a body piercer and tattoo artist. Melicia happily let every body modification she wanted be done by her sister in the name of practice. Her mother was not impressed when she found put about the tattoos so the pair mainly stuck to piercings. Attica moved to LA a couple of years ago to pursue her craft. This year her parents we sent on a big 2-year job in the middle east. Because Melicia's in her last 2 years of school they decided it'd be better for her to complete her schooling in the US. Melicia has been sent to stay with a homestay family that often care for kids in her position Those are the words she'll feed you... and hope you don't question it The true story
Melicia is indeed a daughter of Xavier and Maya Gibbs, in fact she is the only child of Xavier and Maya Gibbs. She's been told they once had upstanding jobs, even a few months after her birth. Melicia doesn't know what they did, nor does she care. What she did know is sometime very early in Melicia's life, long before her memories begin, they figured out they made a lot more by producing and supplying illicit substances to the many dealers of Seattle's streets. The pair flung into a duality of a busy 'business' life and the high life of luxury and partying. They cut off their family and their old friends and left Melicia to partially raise herself In a cry for help Melicia resorted to lashing out. At first it was temper tantrums whenever they'd leave the house or return to their 'study'. One time she knocked over one of their pieces of equipment, that made her parents real mad and she got severely punished for that one. Despite this they still didn't invest in her. Melicia then took to the streets. She founds a 'gang' of sorts of other tweens and young teens in similar situations. Initially they started with graffitiing walls then graffiti turned to vandalism then became petty theft. When Melicia was 15 she finally got caught breaking into and joyriding a police vehicle. During her trial a lot of her previous crimes were aired and Melicia was given 3 year imprisonment with the chance to spend 2 of those years with parole. In her first month or so of juvie she fit right into the scene. She'd join the occasional brawl, helped collect bits and pieces to make makeshift tattoo guns and got a couple of tattoos herself. Over her first couple of months Melicia had way too much time alone with her thoughts, way too much time question what she was doing with her life and way too much time to recognise the path she was headed may not be the best. With encouragement and assistance from the juvy's psychiatrist and her case worker she worked to change herself. Now with hole left from no longer having the adrenaline rush of the fighting and thought of her next petty crimes she was encouraged to pursue education. Initially Melicia was well below the curve, she rarely went to classes after she started middle school but even before then she was an average student at best but she found herself finding intrigue in science, math and literature and wondered if she actually went to school after those years she may have discovered that intrigue earlier. Melicia would say she was lucky there was a good teacher at the detention centre but more accurately very few inmates cared about their education so even in a room full of students she was getting near specialized attention. With very little else to do Melicia committed herself to studying. She started her journey sitting at best at a 6th grade level and it took a lot of work but with very little to do except study Melicia was able to to sit at her sophomore grade level after a year and a half of throwing herself into the books. Unbeknownst to Melicia at the time but her case had opened up a child protection case against her parents. On investigation they were found to be unfit parents and custody of Melicia was to be given to the state after release. They were also busted for the manufacturing and distribution of illicit substances and given 25 years imprisonment. Approximately 20 months after being incarcerated Melicia was approved to spend the rest of her sentence in the outside world with parole. With no family connections that wanted her Melicia was sent to live in a foster home in Westpoint Ridge, the state hoping the distance from Seattle would discourage her from reconciling with her old friends.

Extras:

Luggage: Clothes + toiletries, her phone, a couple of books
Extracurricular Activities: Debate club, she also frequents study groups a lot
Ethnicity: Melicia's father is African-American and her mother is Caucasian
Melicia's piercing holes were all done with sewing needles either by herself or her friends before she was incarcerated.
She 'has to call her parents' 4pm every Wednesday, they are inflexible about that date or time [s]That's her appointment time with her parole officer[/s]
