《 Leftover Files 》 [sub]As heroes, you are not only expected to deal with spandex-wearing villains, but also the other forms of mutant rabble that sprout up across the city.[/sub]
The term "Leftovers" is a blanket term for non-rational creatures that had become affected by the X-200 meteor and had adopted (often hideous) super-mutations of their own. Just like with humans, different Leftovers take to X-200 exposure in different ways. And also just like humans, while some of them are generally harmless, a good number of them became crazy once they were given extraordinary powers. Forget the Greek letter nonsense; that only applies to humans who can get creative with their powers. With Leftovers, the international hero community decided to go Roman instead with a I-X scale, with 1 being perfectly docile and 10 being extremely dangerous to all life in the vicinity. HERO has some files on Leftovers they have documented within its jurisdiction. Ambleweed tend to sprout up in flares in random groups of the city, often in areas where biochemical waste is accumulated, such as in hospitals. Ambleweeds simply aim to consume victims either by grabbing them with its head and eating them conventionally or absorbing them into its body mass with its vines if it lacks a head. Ambleweeds in general look dangerous, and they are for those who are not trained, but most heroes with honed offensive powers should be able to take them out pretty easily. The dangers of Ambleweeds comes when they're in groups, in which cases even more experienced heroes may need to fall back for backup, as these things are nasty if you do get grabbed by one. Unfortunately for you, they are, in fact, dangerous cold-blooded killing machines. Heh, just kidding. Slimes are a broad term for rapidly-mutating algae. While there are many different variations, in truth, slimes are not dangerous. The real trouble with most slimes is that they are incredibly sticky and incredibly resistant to basically all powers. Slimes usually travel through plumbing until they find a home in somebody's business, house, et cetera, in which case Heroes are called in to manually scrape them off. Cleaning your first Slime job is considered a rite of passage to becoming a real Hero. Slimes are photosynthetic and, as such, are very easy to care for and can make good pets. Regional and more exotic variants include the Winter Slime, which is freezing cold to the touch, the African Rock Slime, which is covered in a shield of rocks, and the Bermudan Slime, which can heat itself to very high temperatures. They retain the ingenuity and omnivorous diet of rats, combine that with the size of a small black bear, and voila, you have a walking nightmare living in your sewers. Cavydons are crafty and sneaky, despite their size. They live in small groups and can squeeze into remarkably tight spaces. They also have enormous incisor teeth that can tear through most materials and can, with enough time, even saw through thin pieces of metal, such as bars for a sewer gate. Generally, they don't have a taste for human flesh, but everybody gets hungry sometimes. That, and their propensity for property damage, makes them primo targets for Brookside-based heroes. They aren't remarkably big as far as Leftovers go, but still quite intimidating, generally growing around 10-12 feet long with good bulk and an array of horns and sharp teeth. The reptilian Leftovers are not particularly dangerous just because of their physical attributes. Sure, they have razor-sharp claws that make them excellent climbers, skin that is prized for being extremely resistant to the elements and bullet-resistant, shockingly fast speeds, and teeth that are coated in poisonous saliva that, while not fatal, has a paralytical effect. No, what makes them particularly dangerous is their intelligence. They, like the Cavydon, are very clever and develop pack-hunting mentalities, using numbers to overcome a number of obstacles. Unlike the Cavydon, Terrazards like to hunt humans, particularly metahumans, and are drawn towards areas with large numbers of metahumans present. Terrazards have been spotted in Castleburg but are not seen too frequently outside of illegal-Leftover-smuggling-gone-wrong. HERO has compiled extensive notes on them, though, due to large Terrazard packs forming in HERO jurisdiction by the Chesapeake Bay area.
[ DIRECTOR'S COMMENTS ]
"Travelled down to Maryland to hunt the bastards once. They're very clever and they pack a big punch, and can easily overwhelm a HERO if they're not careful. This is why I don't buy my kids iguanas."
