It takes a lot and I mean a lot for me to find something to be too much. It actually made a lot of sense to me really, she stabbed him, so of course he stabs her friend. Because like you said he thinks taking her would have advantages, so he wouldn't want to stab her. Plus she is doing more damage to herself than him anyway. Lol. I had thought about letting him stab Esmeralda, but I don't think that Belle would be the type to do that.
