Thirty years ago, the world was a different place, and despite some political issues in the world. The world was at peace, or at least for the most part. Then, thirty years ago, there was what is now called the Great Awakening. A part of humanity suddenly developed powers and superhuman abilities. At first, there was chaos as these superhumans tried to learn how to control their powers and newfound abilities. Crime went up as some of these superhumans used their newfound gifts for crime. It was during this time that humanity would receive a surprising revelation from an unlikely source. For four alien spacecraft of unknown design would land in Washington D.C, and while people expected aliens. Instead, it was humans who exited from the ships. These humans would explain themselves, and that is where the term Gifted would come from. For it turns out that a large number of humans had been abducted by an alien race known as the Zimearons, who wanted humans for their Gifted gene. It is a latent gene that was gifted to humanity by an ancient race known as the Amnarons, as they saw potential in our species and let the gene spread through humanity naturally over thousands of years. This Gifted gene is what caused the sudden surge of superhumans in the world as the latent gene awakened. While this information did help to understand why normal people developed superpowers. What caused the Great Awakening is unknown, or if everyone Gifted awakened. But what was clear was that the world had changed with the Gifted and new technologies gained from studying what Zimearon technology had brought back to Earth. In response to how Gifted people were being treated around the world and the difficulties they faced from the majority of non-Gifted people. The Gifted who returned to Earth after talking with the UN. The Gifted Initiative was created and established several schools and universities around the world, meant to help awaken Gifted learn how to use their gifts and have a quality education in the process. Along with being a safe place for Gifted students. Now, in the current day of 2067, things have stabilized, though Gifted crime is still a problem, along with the rise of Gifted terrorists. Despite this, a new year for the Gifted Lance University and a new class of Gifted students started their first classes. Unaware of trouble coming their way, and being at Lance University will be a memorable time, no matter what. [center]Rules: 1. Expected to follow standard site rules 2. No Mind Control or Time Powers [/center] [center][b]Overview[/b][/center] Hello and welcome to the rp. So this is an idea I had for a while now on the back burner. A side project for an rp I have not yet launched, and I wondered if an rp set elsewhere in the setting could work. So in this rp, you will be playing an Awakened Gifted who is a first-year student attending Lance University. A Gifted University located in Wells Tannery, Pennsylvania. The year is 2067, and the rp will cover the course of the player characters' four-year stay at the university. Also, while the university is located in the United States, it is open to Gifted students from other countries to attend Lance University. Now, when it comes to your characters, for appearances, go for real-life pics and not drawn or anime. When it comes to their powers, try not to have a power that seems too magical. [center][b]Lance University[/b][/center] Lance University named after Gifted Jaocb Lance, is located in the former unincorporated area of Wells Tannery, Pennsylvania. The University hosts the needed buildings and housing for the students and faculty. Which has grown into a small village of sorts. While the university does provide food and other services for its students and faculty. Third-party services have set up shop in the area. There is a small movie theater, some restaurants, a small grocery store, individual housing, and a mini golf course. Though it is the smallest of the North American Gifted Universities. Lance University offers more specialized education along with a facility for Gifted to use and practice using their Gifted Abilities. [center][b]Gifted[/b][/center] Now, what it means to be Gifted is that while Gifted humans look like normal humans, it is what is on the inside that is different. For Gifted humans, develop a superpower. However, only when the Gifted Gene is activated do Gifted have these traits. Unactivated Gifted are like normal humans in everyday life. Each Gifted has a power, say, ice manipulation. But there can be variations of the same power. Like one fire user can use blue fire, while another user summons fire via a biological process. However, only certain humans are Gifted, as they have to have the latent gene necessary to be Gifted. In order to activate their Gifted nature, it either happens naturally during one's life, or it is activated artificially. Called an Awakening when a Gifted gene activates. Most Gifted have been awakened artificially, both the Gifted who returned home to Earth and the ones activated during the Great Awakening. However, children of the awakened Gifted and others with the latent gene have been awakened naturally, and has been on the rise since the Awakening. If anyone has any questions about being Gifted, then feel free to ask. [center][b]World[/b][/center] The world of 2067, while most of the world is mostly the same. Bearing some changes, like Korea being united, major wars ending. What is different is the tech level, Gifted crime, and politics. While the Zimearon technology that was recovered was mainly limited to the four Zimearon ships that landed on Earth. After years of reverse engineering the Zimearon ships. Breakthroughs were made, and it jump-started the aerospace industry and later the colonization of the solar system. While the spaceships that were made were not as advanced as the Zimearon ships. They were still capable of sending colonists to the moon, Mars, and beyond. Along with significantly reducing travel times to days to travel the solar system, and efforts are underway to develop the first human FTL drive. Gifted crime, while it is still a problem. The main problem lies with Gifted terrorists. While there are several Gifted terrorist groups. The most notable being the Exalted, led by an individual known as the Seer. They are a dangerous group that has evaded capture and are highly wanted. While the political nature of the world remains similar to the modern day, barring some nations like Korea being united under South Korea. Due to the discovery of sentient aliens and how thousands were abducted under humanity's nose. Along with the advances made in technology. There is a movement among the populace to unite the nations of the world and for humanity to be united to better defend against hostile aliens. While some nations are hesitant to do this, there is a growing support for this movement, and if humanity is to be united. If it should be under the United Nations or some other form of a united government. However, when it comes to the Gifted, the world's response was mixed. As the chaos brought about by the Great Awakening was stabilized. Some nations saw value in the Gifted abilities, albeit for military reasons. Most saw the damage that Gifted can do to non-Gifted, causing backlash and led to anti-Gifted measures. While most of these anti-Gifted measures in nations have been repealed and thanks to good Gifted stepping up and helping to deal with Gifted crime. Forming the GACD or Gifted Anti-Crime Division of the United Nations. There is still some anti-Gifted stigma, which makes the Gifted Initiative still a necessary program, so those young, Awakened Gifted can learn in a safe and welcoming environment. But with the hope that they can live among the non-Gifted population in peace. [center][b]The humans that returned[/b][/center] Now, for the humans who returned to Earth were those abductees who managed after being forcibly awakened and brainwashed into being soldiers for the Zimearons. Since the Zimearons failed to extract the Gifted Gene and were losing a civil war. They needed an edge against the rebels and found the abducted humans to be the edge they needed. These Gifted humans managed to break free of their mind control and aided the rebels in ending the Zimearon Star Empire. Where the few humans managed to pass through an Amnaron Gate that connected Earth to Zimearon space before the Zimearons in a final defiance. Destroyed the gate and stranded the rest of the abductees, and their fate is unknown. Now, for those abductees who returned to Earth with both good and bad news. The knowledge of the Gifted Gene and what Zimearon technology they brought with them that humans could study. But the bad news is that those humans stranded in Zimearon space may never be seen again. But since returning to Earth and seeing how the Gifted were being treated, the Gifted who returned approached the UN with a proposal, which was to establish Gifted schools around the world so Gifted could learn and train in peace. These returning Gifted are choosing to help run the schools and even have some named after them. Which many of these returning Gifted are still around and have either retired or continue to help run the schools in some way.
