Something that Mac had completely ignored was that the bubbly princess of dreams was so sickeningly sweet that it made her nauseous. Mac had observed many of Penrose’s denizens closely, and she still couldn’t understand why a self proclaimed ruler of Penrose would choose such an immature partner for her romantic pursuits. As MDP’s love manifested itself as real hearts and burst around her head, Mac continued to cringe, thankful that she could puppet her illusionary form to maintain its confident smile. Why had she done this to herself? When MDP continued to talk to Lily, she was reminded of how easy this could have been if she just let MDP go without saying anything. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy… Oh well. As important to Lily as Alex was, the eggs were by far the biggest threat to Penrose. Somehow, Mac had a feeling that boy could handle himself. She was honestly surprised he had gotten captured in the first place. When she had sight over all, she had observed how resourceful and careful he had been on a number of occasions. After fighting a few more teapots and trolling Alicia, the consequences of her hubris returned with a strange looking teapot. One that had a hat and gloves. It was something akin to a child’s cartoon when Disney produced decent animation and not just slop. Mac sighed, angry that she had to admit that MDP could be proving to be more useful than she initially suspected. But it was her idea to take her along. And suffer for it. Though maybe this wasn’t so smart, as Mac became aware that Penny was entering the area. It would get very weird, very fast if she stuck around like this. ”It’s very possible.” Mac’s avatar nodded in approval. ”Maybe they even know the location of the other eggs. While you do that, I’m going to practice my teleportation. Sometimes it makes me forget things, but don’t worry, I’ll never forget you!” And with that, “Penny” clapped her hands together and vanished. That, and despite her overbearing nature, part of Mac did sympathize with the whimsical girl. She wasn’t sure why. As annoying as she found her, it seemed like a lot of people enjoyed her company. But what had she told her when she got a Christmas invitation from her? Something about not having any real friends? That still wasn’t something she understood. But eventually, they came upon the chess battle. But this was not like a normal chess battle, it was like a normal videogame chess battle. Devil May Cry 3 did this twenty years ago. That’s how old this idea is. [s]It was even used in a hunt not too long ago. I’m so happy Connie and Gaia don’t need to relive that horror[/s] But then again, what did you expect from the forces of wonderland? Contemporary was very much their style. Somehow, Mac found herself positioned behind the Viscerals, enjoying the spells they employed. She felt kind of bad receiving a shield that could have helped someone else out more, but that just meant she had to go as HAM as possible. Beating the kings sounded like a good idea, but it clearly wouldn’t be that simple. The goal of chess was to capture your opponent by weakening their defenses, and with so many pieces assisting one another, they would likely have to break their teamwork before they captured the big K. ”Not bad, silly hat man!” Ashley cracked her knuckles and grinned. ”I’ve got time for a quick game.” Mac slung herself into the front line of white pawns. As useless as they seemed, every pawn could become a queen. She chose to go after the white ones because they felt manageable and would open up the red pawns to the others, which she hoped would be easier to fight for the weaker magical girls. Tactics were great and all, but when you were fighting magical girls with crazy arcane abilities you had your work cut out for you. Though Mac knew rooks would be trouble, which seemed to make other chess pieces stronger by proximity. They went up in priority when they started to harass Rachel. That wasn’t someone Mac had ever cared for, and it felt like she would relapse back into her old ways as soon as it was convenient. But right now she was defending her team, and it was just a good strategy to defend your support units. Ashley continued to maneuver in front of the pawns, but mac was rushing straight for the rooks. As soon as it made sense to do so, Ashley “teleported” to her position just as she body checked one of the red rooks. She grabbed Rachel by the scruff of the shirt and hurled her to safely, leaving herself at the mercy of the rooks. They would get a single chance to slam into her, and no more. Because Mac had created a gravity well at her position to hold all of the rooks near her. If they couldn’t back away from her position, they couldn’t slam her again. Meanwhile, Mac made some room for herself by pushing against one of the rooks with her legs so that she could start dismantling them with her fists. A roar slowly erupted from her position as she sped up her punching.
