[@Olive Fontaine]Yes, the rod having partial inscriptions of formula would be along the lines of what I was getting at, that part's fine. And as far as the rod/amber orb being a focus, that's also fine; wood, bone, and many other natural materials are used as spell foci because they're conductors of Mana. I was just more getting at the fact that the rod itself wouldn't have like, a battery to store these spells he learned from it or anything--it doesn't [i]contain[/i] Mana.
