Millions were kept from dying through his compassion and his willingness to spend his fortune for their sake, to keep them fed, housed, and educated through tumultuous times. If not for the sect and its charitable networks, the boy who would become the Hassan of the Shining Eyes, the Hassan who refounded the Order of Assassins, would be dead. He vaguely remembers the 80s, where he was raised in an orphanage for exiles that also doubled as an orphanage of love. Even then, he knew, from the faces of his fellow orphans, that love and warmth were fragile, that hate and fear found a way, but that love, warmth, and [i]light[/i] were worth fighting for. And so he studied under the masters of the sect, the teachers, philosophers, and theologians. He learned of how God, in their eyes, was beyond limits, beyond definitions, beyond all human conception and intellect. Through his teachers, he revered the Imam, who in turn interceded for God, and he learned that his sect was regarded by many as heretical or even abhorrent, no different than other religions. He persevered. He studied. Even as the world grew dark again, with strife and poverty tainting large regions of the world, he persisted in his beliefs. In time, he became known as knowledgeable, as wise, but also as someone who struggled against his anger towards those who would target his sect in the name of the same God they praised. By having a single, high-quality Magic Circuit, born through a random genetic quirk, the young man who would become Hassan of the Shining Eyes was qualified to be taught the basics of Magecraft with the permission of his mentors, many of whom had some knowledge of Mysticism and even Occult Theory, although they kept this secret from the uninitiated. This, however, was merely so he can see the commonalities between Magecraft and what the Ismail’i sect already knew in their hearts. In time, the Aga Khan, his Imam, gave him a task: Refound the Order of Assassins, both as destroyers of the foes of the faith and defenders of the innocent, the helpless, those who were weak against their own choice, but can one day be strong. But to do that, he would have to sacrifice something of himself, to risk damnation to protect others from the pain and suffering that would tempt them to dark paths. At the end of it, he can see the omissions, lies, and half-truths people said to others and themselves, and see his own organization as flawed, with all the sins of a large group led by fallible humans, but still trying to do its best in an imperfect world. And he learned forgiveness, even for the people he was going to kill.
