Shouko was immediately recommended to her, was it because she's also a woman? It kinda be that way since Ouga fought like 4 dudes & 1 girl, being a guy just mean being physically bred that way.

More like, being with Shouko alludes to the easy way out, both Masters are beneficial in different ways to fuel Rei's growth. Arguing inside her conflicted mind, Rei not only has misjudged the natures of Ouga & Shouko, it certainly put her to regret back when she's still normal. Does she really want to waste her life again? Definitely not, only the weak search & settle less for comfort, they fail to evolve.
