He usually sports a casual getup consisting of a red sleeveless jacket with a large star emblem decking its back, a white shirt with torn sleeves, black biker gloves, blue vintage jeans, red-and-white sneakers, and a baseball cap of the matching color scheme. A logo written ‘Fatal Fury’ decks the white front of the cap, making it the most striking feature of his iconic outfit. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Despite his rocky past, Terry is a charismatic, happy-go-lucky every man who’s easy to get along with just about anybody. Terry is playful and would often quip on his opponents during their matches. He never bears an ill-will towards anybody other than the murderer of his surrogate father, Geese Howard, and the outright malicious hitman, Ryuji Yamazaki. A kindhearted man and a role model to many, Terry appears to be forgiving at times. Despite what Geese did to his father, he still takes his son, Rock Howard, under his wing after the notorious kingpin chose to abandon his family, attempting to bury the hatchet between them. Terry is also known to be an altruistic figure. He’s willing to put his life on the line when necessary. The conclusion of the King of Fighters 2000 saw Terry staying behind the collapsing NESTS base to give room for his teammates to escape. Fortunately, it was revealed that he survived the collapse later on. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Following the brutal demise of his surrogate father at the hands of the notorious Geese Howard, Terry and his brother Andy went on a decade-long training to exact their vengeance. Having learned chi-gathering techniques from the Hakkyokuseiken school, Terry extended his training when he traveled across the States, partaking in street fights after street fights as well as learning new techniques along the way. Alongside Andy and Muay Thai champion Joe Higashi, he returned to South Town to enter the annual King of Fighters tournament hosted by Geese. Ultimately, the brothers successfully avenged the death of their father when Terry defeated Geese to become the new King of Fighters, kicking the latter off the top of his towering headquarters. Just a year later, Terry’s victory caught the attention of Wolfgang Krauser, the earl of the wealthy Stroheim family. As Krauser took the King of Fighters tournament to the global stage, he invited Terry to participate alongside other martial artists across the globe. As it was the prior tournament, Terry managed to make the cut to the finals, facing the sponsor himself. The battle was intense, yet Terry managed to beat Krauser clean, as the entire world witnessed the champion defend his title. Following his consecutive victories, Terry and his comrades, Andy and Joe, received the invitation letters to the team-based King of Fighters ’94 tournament sponsored by Rugal Bernstein while on a vacation in Italy. Sensing the possible involvements of Geese and Krauser, the trio decided to enter the tournament as Team Fatal Fury. Although they didn’t win the tournament, the team would continue to become the mainstay of every team-based King of Fighters to date. The members might’ve changed a couple of times, but Terry will always be present as the team leader. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Terry’s life barely changed following the merging of universes. Residing in Esaka, he spent most of his time taking odd jobs, as well as competing in street fights to raise his rank. Week after week, however, he began to feel that something was missing. He’d been feeling lonely and disconnected, alienated in this brand new world he was sucked into. What was once his lifetime passion had turned into daily chores, as fear of the unknown became too much for the thrill of the bout to handle. Memories of his family and old friends often crossed his mind. He’d been missing them, yet he still hadn’t found a way to reconnect with them, let alone knowing where they were. Despite the myriad of new fans who adored his fighting skills, he barely felt like he belonged. However, things began to change following a chance encounter. One afternoon, after completing his daily dose of street fight, Terry stumbled upon the newly opened Pao Pao Café 7 by the bustling corner of the city. Believing it was related to the original Pao Pao Café he used to visit in South Town regularly, he entered, only to be greeted by a familiar face he hadn’t met since the World of Light was established. The said familiar face was none other than Richard Meyer, Terry’s long-time buddy and the owner of the original café. The two hugged each other upon reuniting, then began to talk about a lot of things surrounding their new lives out of longing. Later, Terry would ask Richard whether he knew where their other acquaintances were, which Richard didn’t have a clue, either. He instead informed Terry that The King of Fighters XVI was rumored to take place in Esaka, where every competitor from across the World of Light was welcomed to participate. Afraid that Geese or any of the previous sponsors might be involved, Terry decided to investigate the rumors further, all while hoping that he’d find some luck reuniting with his close acquaintances. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Terry is a proficient hand-to-hand combatant. He is a master of various martial arts disciplines, including boxing, karate, kungfu, kickboxing, street-brawling, and Hakkyokuseiken. This impressive feat allows him to easily adapt to other competitors, as well as giving him a much needed flexibility during a match. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Duffel Bag : A large bag made of fabric that Terry always brings in his travels containing the following items:

Food and Water Supplies : Important supplies to prevent Terry from starving and thirsting in his travels. He can shoot waves of energy dubbed the “Power Wave” or incorporate the said ki-energy to perform physical attacks such as the Burning Knuckle, Crack Shot, Power Dunk, Rising Tackle, Power Charge, etc.
Desperation Moves – Stronger variations of special moves, Terry can create explosive attacks once pressured or close to running out of health. He can erupt geysers of energy dubbed the “Power Geyser,” create a massive hurricane dubbed “Hadō Senpuukyaku,” or shoot a massive spark of energy while performing the more physical Buster Wolf. A fighting genius, Terry will often find ways to combine his special moves with/or desperation moves into a single, consecutive assault, such as Triple Wolf and Rising Fang.
Advance Mode – While activating Advance Mode, Terry will strike a pose, as a golden energy flashes around him. This will increase the amount of damage his attacks could inflict, as well as helping him endure lesser impact from his opponent’s attacks. However, this mode wouldn’t last for too long, and by the time the flashing energy fades, his abilities revert back to normal.
Extra Mode – While activating Extra Mode, Terry will take a stance, as he centers the surrounding energy around him. A blue, ever-illuminating aura will circle him, the more he charges himself with energy. Once sufficiently drawn, Terry can use the energy to execute one of his desperation moves against his opponent.
[img][/img]

[img][/img]

Enhanced Sense – Terry’s sharp instincts allow him to sense anybody nearby without having to look at them.
Enhanced Durability – Terry is capable of receiving stiff punishing attacks and shrugging them off like they are nothing. This is proven to be helpful against brutes like Krauser and Grant. On top of that, he’s also shown to be surviving a collapsing structure on two different occasions: during The King of Fighters ’99 and 2000.
Enhanced Reflexes – Terry’s sharp reflexes allow him to anticipate any attack swiftly and precisely.
Survival Instinct – Growing up in the mean streets of South Town helps Terry develop a strong survival instinct that prevents him from whatever the possible dangers lurking within the city. He also possesses an extensive knowledge of what goes on in South Town, occasionally assisting his partner Blue Mary in her investigations.
Leadership – Terry possesses extensive experiences leading his very own Team Fatal Fury in the King of Fighters tournaments.
[img][/img]

[img][/img]

Knockout – Like other fighters, Terry is prone to getting knocked out when he’s running out of health. When entering this state, he’ll remain unconscious for a while before having his health fully recovered. If the fight lasts more than a round, he’ll be recovered automatically upon entering the next round.
Parry – Focusing on the offenses can often come with risks. Terry’s offensive approach to a fight often allows his opponent to parry his attacks on the spot—moreso, when he throws a punch, a kick, or executes a physical special move. When parried, his attacks will deal with little to no damage depending on the severity of them.
Stun – Like other fighters, Terry is prone to getting stunned. This could happen when his opponent showers him with excessive rounds of attacks which he fails to counter. When entering this state, Terry will take a moment to regather his strength, dazed and unable to retaliate. Depending on the severity, it’ll usually take a moment until Terry is fully recovered.
Tardy – Don’t expect Terry to come at time because, most likely, he won’t. It’s no secret that he’s one of the tardiest people in all of South Town. The best instance is when he reunited with his teammates for the King of Fighters XIII tournament. He came half an hour late to their rendezvous, much to Joe’s annoyance. When called in normally, it can perform one of three techniques. These include Iron Mountain (a short range armored shoulder charge), Mad Drive (Hornet gets down and drives forward in a long-range low attack), and Super Ignition. When using Super Ignition, it will explosively shed its outer shell, which can damage opponents in close proximity. In this state, its cooldown increases by 5 seconds and its other techniques are replaced by two new ones: a four-hit tire combo that ends with a launching uppercut, and a four-hit tire combo that ends with a knockdown-inducing headbutt. Hornet returns to its default shell state at the start of every fight. He sports a traditional karate uniform consisting of a white gi with torn sleeves, a black martial arts belt, a pair of padded, sparring gloves, and a red headband. Although he’d often wear a pair of sandals, he mostly just walks around bare feet—a choice he deliberately makes, as he believes it to be far more comfortable. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Ryu is a wise, stoic, humble, courteous, but self-denouncing individual. He treats his travels, training, and fights seriously, as his life goal is to achieve complete mastery in martial arts by competing with practitioners of various disciplines from around the world. For Ryu, his true satisfaction is the lesson that comes from the fight itself, preferring to move on to the next challenges instead of soaking in the glitz and glamour that come out of his triumphs (unless he’s offered food or encounters an old friend). Due to spending his entire life as a wandering warrior being trained far away from modern-day customs, Ryu often appears out-of-touch and detached from his surroundings. Despite the detachment, though, he’s always willing to help those in need, even though saving the world has never been his top priority. Oftentimes, he’s also shown to have a soft spot for children, as well as a rather dry sense of humor. He shows respect to competitors whose skills are equal to his own or even the ones he’s able to defeat, complimenting and encouraging them to continue training and get stronger. Ryu is notoriously straightforward, honest, and pure-hearted, even though said traits often make him appear oblivious. However, despite his purity, there’s a dark side to Ryu: his drive to improve himself—in spite of the obstacles—can often lead to a drive to win at all costs. This darker driving factor is fueled by (and is able to fuel) his inner dark intent called the Satsui no Hado—an influence which he had to battle and suppress constantly to avoid himself from doing the unthinkable. When his inner dark intent started to overcome his common sense, Ryu relied on his support system—most notably Ken, Gouken, Sakura, and Sagat—to keep him in check and help him overcome the demon. Fortunately, after tapping into the Power of Nothingness, Ryu has since been liberated from his dark manifestation, resulting in the creation of Kage. [img][/img]

[img][/img] At a young age, Ryu was orphaned and had zero recollections of his biological parents, outside of being entrusted to a priest at an unknown temple. Subsequently, he was discovered and adopted by a man named Gouken who raised him in a secluded dojo and mentored him in his own take on Ansatsuken. Some time later, Gouken took his close friend’s spoiled son, Ken Masters, under his wing, teaching him the very martial arts discipline that he’d been teaching Ryu. Both Ryu and Ken quickly became good friends and sparred with each other daily, with Ryu considering Ken to be his surrogate brother. When Ryu turned 23, Gouken decided that both Ryu and Ken had been ripe enough to travel the globe and put their martial arts prowess to a test. While Ken returned to the States, Ryu instead wandered the world, making Thailand his first destination. After successfully defeating 20 local Muay Thai practitioners, Ryu attracted the attention of a man named Sagat who was praised and deemed by the people of Thailand as the Emperor of Muay Thai. As the means of defending the honor of Muay Thai, Sagat hosted the first ever World Warrior tournament, luring Ryu and several other martial artists from around the globe to participate. Eventually, it was Ryu who earned the honor of challenging Sagat in the finals, having defeated every opponent in his path. Unfortunately, throughout the bout, Ryu was proven to be no match for the reigning Muay Thai champion, as Sagat nearly defeated him and eventually let his guard down after believing that he’d won the battle. Ryu, having an unwavering desire to win, subconsciously succumbed to the influence of the Satsui no Hado, retaliating with a near-lethal Shoryuken. The amplified Shoryuken didn’t only knock Sagat out, but also left a huge scar across his chest. After regaining consciousness and believing that he’d been robbed of his glory, Sagat was infuriated and humiliated, swearing vengeance on Ryu ever since. After earning the title of the world’s strongest, Ryu continued to fight and travel as usual, all while contemplating about ‘the meaning of anything in life.’ While he’d achieved his life’s ultimate purpose, Ryu wasn’t sure if he deserved to achieve the title so early nor did he believe that he’d achieved his true goal, ultimately continuing to train and developing new techniques along the way. Sometime later, Ryu was informed by Ken that their mentor had been ambushed and murdered by a fellow Ansatsuken practitioner named Akuma. Hearing about the news, Ryu quickly set out to find the man responsible for Gouken’s apparent demise, eventually discovering Akuma in a secluded Japanese island called Gokuentou. The two fought with Ryu eventually winning the fight. Little did he know that Akuma was only testing him, revealing to Ryu that they had a shared ‘evil intent’ that was the Satsui no Hado, which was a power consuming the practitioners of their shared martial arts discipline, driving them to win at all cost, even if it meant eradicating their opponent. With his fist, Akuma then pummeled the ground, erupting a massive quake that turned the entire island into ruins. Although trapped, Ryu managed to withstand the impact, miraculously escaping the island alive. Around the same time he survived the collapsing island, Ryu stumbled across Sagat at the Australian Outback where the latter challenged him to a rematch. Ryu, knowing that Sagat still hadn’t recovered from their last duel, talked him out of fighting him, only for Sagat to refuse his suggestion. Left with no choice, Ryu decided to accept the challenge, holding himself back throughout the bout. Ryu’s reluctance to fight the wrathful Sagat allowed the latter to emerge victorious, only to realize that his victory felt hollow since Ryu wasn’t really giving his all. Ever since then, Sagat vowed to put his hatred aside and trained harder, wishing to fight Ryu again someday. It was during this time when Ryu encountered his ‘number one fan’ named Sakura for the first time (who expressed her desire to train under his guidance), as well as reuniting with Ken who gave him his red hairband as a reminder to remain focused after agreeing to fight like ‘old times.’ Two years had passed, and even after the encouragement given to him by Ken, Ryu continued to be troubled by what Akuma had told him back on the island, even worse after Rose—a fortune teller who had a connection with M. Bison—told him that he would’ve never defeated Bison, unless he fought the latter at the cost of his life. This was further proven when Ryu was confronted by Bison who showed interest in recruiting the former as part of his Shadaloo syndicate. Despite putting up an audacious beat down, Bison managed to defeat him, taking the half-conscious Ryu with him. He began brainwashing Ryu, revealing to him that his Satsui no Hado was no different from his Psycho Power. Thankfully, the so-called Shadaloo chairman was disrupted by the arrival of Ken, Sakura, and Sagat, each having pursued Ryu for different reasons. While Ken and Sakura went after Bison, it was Sagat who confronted the brainwashed Ryu directly, urging him to come to his senses. Although struggling at first, Ryu eventually broke out of his brainwashed state to confront Bison, defeating him with the very technique he used to defeat Sagat. Following the battle, the four went their separate ways with Ryu promising to become a better fighter the next time they crossed paths. Eventually, Ryu kept his promise when he entered the second World Warrior tournament, defeating some of the world’s fiercest fighters like Zangief and Blanka to compete in the semifinals. Sometime after the second tournament, Ryu entered the third World Warrior tournament to further hone his martial arts prowess, going head-to-head against Sagat in their long anticipated rematch. It was also during the third tournament when Ryu and Ken learned that their master, Gouken, actually survived the ambush by Akuma. Upon encountering his pupils, Gouken then unleashed the Power of Nothingness within him to seal Ryu’s Satsui no Hado, finally freeing Ryu of the inner darkness that’d been consuming his spirit. Now in his 30s, the seasoned Ryu continued to sharpen his abilities, eventually participating in the fourth World Warrior tournament. There, he faced Ken’s pupil named Sean who’d been asked to fight him in a match, easily defeating him with just a mere Hadouken. At some point following the tournament, he came across a young wrestler named Alex who appeared to be the winner of the fourth tournament. Wanting to prove the rumors he’d been hearing about Ryu, Alex challenged him to a fight, in which Ryu gladly accepted. As the two fought, Ryu ended up defeating Alex fair and square, encouraging the next World Warrior champion to continue fighting. Alex, amazed by Ryu’s martial arts prowess, was motivated to become a stronger fighter, anticipating his rematch against Ryu. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Alongside Ken and Gouken, Ryu was one of the earlier residents of Esaka. For many years, he’d proven himself to be every bit as skillful as he was prior to the merging of the worlds, becoming the undisputed World Warrior champion for several consecutive years. Thanks to his storied fighting career, Ryu was also trusted to become one of the mentors working for the Street Fighter Dojo run by Ken and Zangief, subsequently becoming one of the dojo’s initial staples. At first glance, it seemed that he’d achieved the ultimate purpose of a fight that he’d been craving for, sensing that he’d attained complete mastery of his art for the first time in his life. And if that wasn’t enough, every Esakan adored and glorified him, deeming him to be one of the four main pillars for the city’s major tournaments (next to Liu Kang, Jin Kazama, and Kyo Kusanagi). Although he was barely affected by the fame and grandeur that came out of his main event status, he’d be lying if he never felt this fulfilled his entire life. Or so, it seemed? Unfortunately, even after having proven himself and fulfilled everything in his fighting career, nothing was ever enough for Ryu. While he never felt like he’d lost his purpose, he didn’t exactly feel like he’d used his capabilities to their fullest. The thought of using his strength for a purpose greater than mere fisticuffs had been weighing on him lately, eventually affecting his performances in the process. Having allowed himself to be defeated in the semifinals of the World Warrior tournament two years ago was the final straw. It was all he needed to convince himself to pursue a different calling for once in his life. While he continued to train his mind and body, Ryu spent the next year doing what he loved best: travelling the world. Along his journey, he attempted to use his fighting prowess for mostly anything but competing in street fights, helping and defending those in dire need. One could say that he’d gained a new outlook on life through his journey outside of Esaka, as he found solace in accompanying the weak and the defenseless—a sight so rare to be seen in the city as battle-hardened as Esaka where every resident knew how to fend for themselves. Despite his effort, however, he was only close to finding the answer that he needed to learn why he felt the way he felt. Sensing that the last piece of the puzzle might remain in the heart of battle, Ryu returned to Esaka just in time to sign up for the latest World Warrior tournament, making his triumphant comeback the next day. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Ryu is an expert in hand-to-hand combat. An ultimate fighting machine, his take on both Gouken’s Ansatsuken style of karate and the traditional Shotokan karate revolves around hard-hitting singular strikes capable of knocking his opponent down and his iconic energy blast called Hadouken. [img][/img]

[img][/img] Duffle Bag : A large bag made of fabric that Ryu always brings in his travels containing food and water supplies, additional clothes, plane tickets, passports, and the black card that Ken gave him containing all the proceeds earned from tournament victories, guest appearances, and solving local commotions. Some of his known special moves include Hadouken, Shoryuken, and Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku.
Super Moves – Also known as ‘Super Arts’ and ‘Super Combos,’ Ryu’s super moves are stronger variations of his special moves. Super moves can only be activated once Ryu manages to fill up his power meter (which can only be achieved through attacking his opponent, receiving attacks, and/or taunting). Some of Ryu’s known super moves include Shinkuu Hadouken, Shin Shoryuken, and Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku.
Parry – Parry is a defensive technique capable of preventing Ryu from receiving any attacks that his opponent sends him (save for throws and command grabs). Upon parrying, Ryu will be covered in a flickering blue aura, as his energy-charged wrist meets his opponent’s attack. When timed correctly, Ryu can turn the tide of the bout by reversing his opponent’s attack with his own and pressuring them to take a defensive stance, instead.
Focus Attack – Upon executing Focus Attack, Ryu will gain Super Armor against his opponent’s attack, temporarily rendering himself invulnerable and recharging his health quicker than usual. Depending on how long the attack is charged, it can crumple his opponent and even render itself unblockable. Typically, Focus Attack is signified by streaks of dark ink and flickering aura to emphasize the amount of inner force being used.
[img][/img]

[img][/img]

Enhanced Sense – Ryu’s keen perception allows him to sense a nearby ki-energy user, helping him recognize and anticipate incoming threats. This is further proven when he survived the collapsing island caused by Akuma during the aftermath of their first battle.
Enhanced Reflexes – Ryu’s sharp reflexes allow him to anticipate any attacks with greater precision.
[img][/img]

[img][/img]

Stun – Like most street fighters, Ryu is prone to getting stunned once he loads up his stun meter (which can only be achieved by receiving attacks).
