In normal circumstances, it should be the navigator's job to answer that question, but Jazdia was too stunned upon hearing the story of a gastronomical disaster involving eggs poached in pickle juice she spent the next moment wondering if she had offended someone with her earlier statement about civility so Mr. Elc had to take over.

You didn't know why, but it sounded like Mr. Elc said that with a veiled disgust like he was in the position of someone working with an employer who wanted to rob his ancestor's tomb, and the academic excuse for it was nothing but an utter malarkey. Such disposition remained even when Vesmir, attracted by the topic of tomes and artifacts joined the conversation with ears perked up.
