It is now home to the Empire of Aventhal and her allies. Valaria is a fickle land that becomes increasingly inhospitable the further North one travels. It forever tests those who call it home, but while life may struggle to flourish in its embrace, Valaria has and continues to reward those who are resilient enough to survive and thrive. There are treasures beneath her surface and Aventhal has dedicated its existence to turning up every stone and squeezing from it a legacy with which to build upon.[/sup][/sub][/cell][cell][sub][sup]________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ [/sup][/sub][/cell][/row]
[sub]███ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ [sup]01110110 01100001 01101100 01100001 01110010 01101001 01100001 00:0982347:2350976:||:|||[/sup][/sub] [sup]███ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ ██ [sup]01110110 01100001 01101100 01100001 01110010 01101001 01100001 [sup]_____________________________________________________[/sup] x __aven val.01__aventhal val.02[/sup][/sup][sub][sub]x[sup] ____________________________________ [/sup]||:|||: 0982347:2350976:00[/sub][/sub]
[row][cell][sup][sub] ____________________________________________________________________________________ Valeria is the second of two halves of Erritus and easily the least hospitable. While life was seeded in the West, early human civilization migrated East, crossing the continent at a time when the world was still whole. When this single landmass splintered and drifted apart, they found themselves trapped and were forced to carve for themselves a future from a land that refused to give. While many settled in and around the only region that was remotely farmable, that which had broken off from its Western counterpart near the equator, the rest migrated further East, only to find more unforgiving land and another sea waiting past the edge of the then known world. These early pockets of civilization survived Valaria by remaining on the move, taking what they could from a region before moving on to the next. It wasn’t until much later that three distinct peoples emerged and established for themselves a budding nation at three corners of the continent. Including the first who settled toward the West of Valaria, from these nations rose four great families. Valaria is a hauntingly beautiful and barren landscape with large deserts to the south and jagged mountain ranges cloaked in frigid cloud cover to the north. Marshlands encroach inland East making much of the region uninhabitable unless closer to shore. The only easily farmable land in Valaria is found West, a sliver of bountiful land stolen from Enuan. // avenval.01The capital of Aventhal. It remains as sleek black walls standing in deviance of the surrounding, barren, windswept landscape, drawing for the curious and the less fortunate the shape of a menacing silhouette against the dark backdrop of an often restless sky. The very North of the capital is forever cloaked in night as plumes of smoke blot out the sky. A by-product of immense, ongoing mining operations in and around their half of ‘The Shattered Crown’. Toward the center, impossibly tall like a spire stabbed into the ground is the ‘The Tower’ or castle, or as others would call it, the ‘Black Thorn Throne’. Though little more than a simple shape, an obelisk of stark shadow that cuts the sky in two in all directions, the interior is a true masterpiece of architectural design and engineering. Impossibly large rooms, both wide and tall, are deceptively tucked away inside the seemingly limited shape of this monument. Corridors, chambers and halls tangled together in a web of gilded blackstone that is both easy to navigate but impossible to leave. Some have likened it to walking, alone, with only your thoughts and the infinity of the universe to accompany you. Others have noted the irony of having black bleak walls that stretch on forever but have so little to tell. Like the landscape it’s built upon, there is nothing to glean from these halls but the slivers of gold buried in the masonry. Aven is a capital plagued with a beauty that is matched only by its rampant poverty. The class divide has become an impossible gulf to cross thanks in large part to its highly efficient and partially autonomous means of production. The very few benefit, including those in positions of power outside the capital walls, and although this ensures the city remains protected, its alliances strong and their enemies sufficiently deterred, it has become increasingly obvious that a bubble is soon to pop within its walls that very few have the power to stop.[/sub][/sup][/cell][cell][sup][sub]// aventhalval.02A sprawling empire encompassing nearly the entire continent of Valaria, established centuries ago during a time of rapid militarization and expansion in the wake of a failing economy. Aventhal has become a black stain struck across an unforgiving land where life stubbornly refuses to give in or move on. Despite Valaria’s harsh embrace, the empire of Aventhal continues to thrive, thanks in large part to well established trade routes within and without their borders and robust mining operations that has stripped much of the continent of her natural resources and continues to do so to this day. These mines spread beneath the surface of Valaria as an endless maze webbed beneath the base of the mountains to the North. It was one such mining operation that broke open the chamber beneath the ‘Crown’. Because of Aventhal’s military strength and its seat upon the world's more valuable ore deposits, its wealth and power continues to climb ensuring satellite states remain loyal and vigilant, despite some strained relations, and its presence felt even in the far reaches of the Western shores of Enuan. The recent development and construction of a N/PHLM frame has been considered by many to be a show of strength and the first step against Shodea toward global unification. Today, although the King holds the final word in all matters that concern the Empire, the wider influence of power is stretched across Aventhal between the hands of four Houses. House Asmodan stands vigil above all with their blackened kingdom nested at the base of the mountains to the north. House Zaven of Velmira, rule to the East on the shores of the Vaudeken Sea and is the voice for a collective of smaller towns and villages along the coast and a number of small islands dotted across the ocean. Known originally as the Free Peoples of the East Sea, they began as fishermen and pirates, exploring what had once been uncharted waters up to the shores of Enuan. After Aventhal expanded to include their peoples, albeit with much resistance, they were given power and eventually entrusted with the Empire’s Navy years later. To the South is House Malahar who held sway over wide swathes of desert lands known as the Burning Hills. Those who originated from this area were traders and hunters whose ancestors survived by remaining on the move like their predecessors, hunting in one area before rotating to another and allowing Erritus to heal before returning. Today, much of their people have been shuttered within the walls of Aven or other nations in more hospitable regions. Despite not having a capital to call home, their people remain loyal to the family name and Malahar is a recognized voice in the halls of Aven. The House commands as well as makes up the bulk of Aventhal’s army while the rest of her nomadic people move trade across the continent and more importantly, connect the three Houses with the last. House Nezerin had the fortune of settling on the only sliver of farmable land on Valaria and because of this, quickly established themselves as the first major power on Valaria. They provide the largest source of food across the continent but also act as the cultural bridge between Valaria and Enuan. Their ties with Aventhal are strained even to this day. They were the first to be forced into the fold of Aventhal as inheritors of the West’s bounty of the land, and their continued relationship with the West often puts them at odds with their custodian. __________________________________________________________________ [/sub][/sup][/cell][/row]
