When did it strike? Was it but some quirk of fate? Some misplaced gene? Some bit of parental trauma? Certainly it cannot be said that she was raised without love. Her parents were fair, kind, and ultimately banal, bland, and giving her all the tools a child can want to succeed. A middle of the road family with a father who dabbled in street level crime in a way to bring home the bacon and nothing more. Regardless of how many But who cares about that. Why bother blaming some quirk of familial drama or inherited violence when that would take away all the credit due to Kohi for making herself the worst version she could imagine herself as. From malicious little schoolyard fits of childish cruelty to corporate skullduggery and office space backstabbing. Working through that interplay of gray zones between legality and "legality", where laws that the have nots had to deal with and haves could toss away with at their leisure. She came to enjoy the gilded grandeur and finery that she has adorned herself in. The very things and guises that made others trust her more were also just so damn enjoyable to indulge oneself in. Fast cars, loose meatsacks, fine foods, tailored clothes. Her powers proved to her what she had always felt about herself, she deserved to be a queen, she deserved to have the world as a means to suit her, an end to her own desires, with whatever means she saw fit. She built herself up as a self made woman of Dei Zaibatsu, acting as the slumlord millionaire who charged exorbitant rent, a fashion icon, a paragon of high society, an endless source of socialite news and gossip, a lady put on magazine covers and spoken in the same breath as one would give to a fortune tycoon, a woman of industry and markets. She clawed over the bodies of competitors, buried under stock markets or under unnamed watery graves off of squalid docks. When the darkness came for the world and Abyssal Waves crashed over the land, Kohi did not see within it a terror or a horror, she saw within it a rival, a competitor, an advantage to be used. And when it came time to choose a side to stand on, she followed that which gave her the most profit and stepped forward into the darkness and embraced it as one would an old friend. Smiling all the while, biding her time with pitiless patience.
