Weaknesses: Has been described as 'unmotivated' and 'lacking initiative'... though the recent raising of the stakes (where failure could now mean being eaten by bugs) has proven to be quite the motivator.

Background:

Backstory: Velia Larci is a fairly unremarkable dhasath born to a middle class family on the capital world of Eden. Velia went to a decent public school and attended a good university to train towards a career as an astronaut, specialising in Sensors and Communications. Velia managed to scrape her way through, always achieving enough to remain in her chosen training path while never really excelling at anything. In her personal life, Velia was raised a Makerist and like most young dhasath, has remained devout. The Larci family were prominent 'Dhasath Incarnationalist' Makerists, which, as syncretising their own testaments with Judeo-Christian canon, modified the Chalcedonian formula for Christ to insist He is both 'truly God and truly Dhasath' (with no human heritage at all) - something which many Christian groups find problematic, to say the least. Upon graduating, Velia found most of the good positions in Corporate or Government were snapped up by her colleagues who had excelled in training and she was left competing for some of the less than ideal positions, eventually landing a position as the Communications Officer on a newly commissioned colony ship, 'ESS 3822-01', which was intended to head out to establish a colony on the newly named planet of Moab (the local, primitive aliens call it 'Murrith'). These positions were not particularly desirable as the contracts were open-ended with no guaranteed ability to return home, potentially for several years. They would also involve helping to set up communications infrastructure on the new planet which could be dangerous work. Velia arrived at the ship a few days prior to the first acknowledged Metacer sightings, assisting with putting colonists into cryo-sleep (useful for reducing the supply/oxygen consumption on the voyage). She had been aware of a spate of reported sightings in the weeks leading up, but like most Edenites hadn't believed they were real until the Government acknowledged it. Quite a number of crew members didn't manage to make it up from the planet with the last transport, though most of Velia's close family did (who she has now quietly put into cryosleep in pods intended for people who didn't make it up from the planet - who's to know?) However, with no pilot or Captain forthcoming, Velia is beginning to worry she might need to fly the ship herself...
