She hadn’t asked or done anything wrong. However, watching and hearing Rae stutter and stumble over her words, Trinity would’ve thought she asked one of the hardest questions in the world or accused her of something outright. Trintiy winced slightly, the girl’s overdrive almost painful enough for Trinity to retract the question and play it off as a joke after all. “Rae, it’s fine,” Wes tried to reassure and rescue. “Trinity is just protective. There have been some overly… forward girls at camp before. But she knows I’m loyal—” he spared a glance at her pointedly, “—and that we’re just friends. Right?” He gave her an expectant look. Usually one to agree, the problem was, Wes was barking up the wrong tree right now. She was protective, there were overly forward girls, he was loyal, but she knew nothing about this girl. Did she wanna be just friends? So Trinity simply turned back to Rae, awaiting the answer. “People change,” she finally landed on quietly. “High school was... a long time ago.” Try again. That wasn’t an answer but maybe that Aphrodite thing threw her through some hoops. Or gave her an out. She supposed if she was met be any smug face and a proud yes that could be worse. But she decided to let it go for sanity reasons. Plus, Wes was trekking awfully close to being told to shush and let the red head answer for herself. That would only go down well. She wouldn’t mean it disrespectfully as much as to see if Rae could land on her own two feet. “Yeah, no, I haven’t picked a cabin yet, so some help would be nice,” Rae admitted with a smile. “I’ve got a lot to learn, apparently.” She crossed her arms, eyeing for her next activity to skip to when they wandered away and Wes filled her in on all the vital details. “What about you? You can join us,” Wes offered, nodding his head toward direction of the board. She smiled and raised her brows. Trinity wasn’t a fan of hovering around them and their reminiscing times evidently, and she was sure Rae wasn’t a fan of hers. “Tempting. But I’m good.” “Can you give us just a minute?” he addressed Rae. Trinity sighed knowing what was coming. “Don’t go running off.” Wes grabbed Trinity’s hand and led her a few feet away. “Uugh.” She threw her head back stomping behind him like a teenager. “Hey,” he whispered, dipping his head to meet her reluctant steel gaze that was looking elsewhere. “Rae is just a friend. I’ve never slept with her, dated her, or kissed her. I could be the last man in the world and I’d only want you. I love you. Ok?” He laid a kiss on her forehead. She sighed and would’ve rubbed her face if Andy hadn’t worked with her on make-up and hairstyle for a solid few minutes. Or an hour. “I know that. I really do. And I bet she’s a lovely girl, but…” a hand came and chopped down on her other and she exhaled through her nose. This was a party and not the time to appear in a domestic. Besides, she wasn’t sure Wes would get it. She always had later to try explain it. Trinity could rarely refuse his soft insistent gaze. It always tended to melt her heart. However, in that moment, she wasn’t up for explaining herself, even when Wes knew there was more. “It’s fine. Just my own genes putting me in a bad mood,” she tried to simultaneously assure and dismiss the fuss. Glancing at Rae though, she couldn’t fight the next comment surging to the surface. “But seriously, she’s tiny. She better be good with her powers.” Realizing how that came off, and from her especially, Trinity looked back at Wes and continued. “And I don’t mean that as a threat. But in the same way I want you to be good with your abilities.” Because a one armed stud and small amber girl reeked of easy pickings via appearance. Wes lingered waiting to part on a more assuring and better note. “I’m good,” she told him. She knew he wouldn’t do anything and Rae looked easy enough to pry off if she got any uncontrollable urges. For both their benefits, it sufficed. He kissed her quickly. “Go have fun. I’ll be back in a jiff.” He smiled and winked at her. Trinity smiled back and watched him return to Rae. Trinity perked up and tried a cheery reassuring smile to the red head, but the message didn’t quite reach her eyes. Instead, they conveyed her inner thoughts. A promised broken hand if she touched her man. Well, all things considered she believed this warranted another trip back to the bar. There was a man behind the bar now, pouring and peacocking drinks for more than his share, but he was efficient and seamless about it. While her brows furrowed slightly in confusion, she half admired the show and had to like the fact they had an unofficial, official bartender behind there. Another man had picked up on his skills too. “Damn... where did you learn to serve like that?” “Seriously, you’re a beast,” she added, coming up beside the man with a cigarette. It wasn’t a strategic choice for her as much as it seemed to hold the most space because of the way he stood. Better than cramming between some girls or being stuck at the end of the bar and forgotten when she wanted a drink anyway. With that, she flashed the red head male a quick smile. Because that’s what pleasant people did. But onto business. “Alright, surprise me.” She put her hand up on the bar, palm open for a concoction of the bartender’s choice to slide her way. Which may have been dangerous but what harm could a drink do?
