There were so many things to look at, so many sounds to listen to, so many things to touch, and so many people to meet. He didn't know where to begin! He stood at the entrance to the hall, feeling like his eyes had been opened for the very first time. Even the air in his lungs tasted new, fresh, different. He had nothing to compare it to. It was all so brand new, all so exciting, all so magical. Statues towered over them around the hall, looking like they could stir to life with the slightest breeze. He made eye contact with one of them and broke out into a grin. Maybe it would be his friend, if it did. He wanted nothing more in the world than to make a friend. He couldn't remember having any. And then there were the beautiful creatures at the front - some of them colors he didn't even recognize, constantly shifting in some dance he could not follow. They were smaller than him, not even as big as his hand. Three others stood next to the creatures. Were those their caretakers? Their guardians? They must have been important, everything in this room felt so important, so impressive. But all Jake could do was stare, a dopey grin on his face as he was absolutely dumbfounded. The people were the most fascinating of all. There were so many of them! And they were all so different! Different shapes and sizes, some with vibrant shocks of hair and others with no hair at all, some with claws and fangs and some with weird circles over their eyes - just when Jake had thought he'd seen the most interesting person in the room, another one would walk by and his brain would freeze in awe. The world - life - this place was so beautiful! He didn't know why he was here, but he knew that he was meant to be. It was one of only two things about himself of which he was certain, the other being his name: Jake. Just Jake. He liked being Jake, though. The more he looked around, the harder he found it to stay still - the more he found himself beginning to bounce from one foot to the other. That was fun! He laughed a bit at himself. But it would be more fun with another person! And he also didn't know what he was supposed to be doing here. He could use help. Maybe it was time to make a friend. So Jake turned around, and jumped up and down slightly at the first person he saw. "Hii!!! I'm Jake!! I'm new, I think! What's your name?"
