Prowlers and Paragons Ultimate Edition Standard power level 150 hero points 12d trait cap 8d gear limit specialties enabled house rules : http://gatorrules.wikidot.com/house-rules up to 4 players ===== Experience high adventure in the mystical land of Saarna! Beat the crap out of wizards! Ride giant beetles! Save the world, probably! Enjoy delicious novelty treats! Get obliterated by a supersonic dragon! Newbies welcome, whether you're new to this system or roleplaying games in general! ===== This is a sword and sandals and sorcery and lasers game set in a power metal album cover. I hope to have some cute slice of life moments in between sick battles, ideally involving swords, dinosaurs, and vile sorcery. You can be a native of this world, or someone transported there by any means you can imagine. It doesn't have to be via isekai truck, but it can be. You can be a supernatural being, a super powered person, or a totally mundane guy. Almost any sort of character is permitted. The only hard rule is no gods (or any other concept that involves being omnipotent), and no children. I would also prefer players to avoid making meme characters like sentient potted plants, swarms of bees, and the like. Don't worry about power gaming. This system is robust. Make the best decisions you can with the information you have. This applies to playing the game and to character creation. The initial stages of the game will involve us brainstorming together to make the setting as cool as possible, so don't worry too much about getting your character sheet done right away, you'll have plenty of time. Also you're free to change your mind about what you want to play as much as you like right up until you start playing. Even after play starts, players will periodically be able to make changes to their characters, and you have the option of leaving some choices unpicked if you're not sure. Players will be able to, and are encouraged to, add locations and characters to the world in support of their character concepts. I will provide the basic "scaffolding" of the setting. There is no minimum or maximum post length. Write as much as you need to communicate your ideas. I usually use present tense, I seem to fall into it naturally even when trying to do past tense. Please only join the game if the premise genuinely interests you. I would prefer people to post every one or two days, but that's the ideal. No biggie if you need extra time. In the interest of smooth play, I don't enforce a post order. Once I've resolved the GM turn, you can post as soon as you're able. Please communicate with your fellow players early and often. If you feel like you need to know someone's intentions before you make a decision, let them know. If there's any doubt or confusion, I recommend making a brief post, even a single sentence, that just says "I want to try doing X on my turn". Remember, talking is free. Your characters should be communicating to each other about their intentions too! Because there's no post order and players go as a group, don't worry too much about having high Edge (for those of you familiar with D&D, that's like Initiative). In most of the games I've run, it's never come up, but I'll use your Edge when I need to determine which of two or more actions would resolve first, in any case where it matters. Ghosting rules : I won't punish players who participate on behalf of players who do not. After 3 days of inactivity, your turn will be skipped. After another 3 days of inactivity, you will be assumed to no longer be interested in the game. If you return, you may be required to make a new character and join as a new player. If I have accepted another player in the interim, you will not be able to join if the game is at the player limit. The number and strength of villain reinforcements scales with the average time between player posts. The frequency and severity of environmental hazards and natural disasters scales with the average time between player posts. You don't need to own the game to play. This system is so simple that I can easily create a character for you in a few minutes based on a concept you give me. This interest check is intentionally pretty bare bones since the players will have an active role in shaping the game. Questions are of course welcome and encouraged. When creating a character, remember to indicate which starting package you selected somewhere on your character sheet. "None" is a valid selection. ==== GEOGRAPHY For ease of play, the world is basically Earth like - temperature ranges, pressure, gravity, liquid water, basic stuff like that works how you'd expect. It orbits a single star and has the usual day and night cycle. The overall geography is an ocean world dominated by a single continent, which is the result of a colossal tectonic collision in the geologic past. Because of this the continent is several times longer in one direction. Specifically, it resembles a 4000 kilometer long ribbon running from southwest to northeast (about as long as the diameter of Australia). Its width varies considerably at different places, from just a few dozen kilometers across to around 350 at its widest. The interior of the landmass is mountainous, really the whole continent is a continuous range. The lower lands around them are mostly dense jungle, giving away to beaches of quartz sand at the coast. With all of these mountains and plenty of rainfall from the sea, the whole continent is lousy with creeks and rivers of varying size.
