Having a child at this point in her life wasn’t what she had planned, but she was ecstatic at having a living reminder of Ignazio and her beloved Rome. The surprises wouldn’t stop there. From the day of her arrival that 13th day of December twenty-three years ago, Noella’s child had been going against any expectations set to her by others. When the Hayes family had expected a boy, they were surprised at birth with the news that their newest family member was an infant girl. When they had expected a soft-spoken, gentle, cuddly little girl, they got a loud, adventurous, thrill-seeking wild child that made them all amused and roar with laughter, but who also pushed the boundaries and tested everyone’s patience with her pranks and antics. And when Noella expected a fully human child, she was floored to discover on Noah’s tenth birthday that she’d birthed a child of the Roman god of fire and forge himself.
