Hello, it’s me again. Your favorite pepperoni and yogurt munching entity. I guess this is it for the moment. How shall we proceed?
Ahh, now where was I? I think I was going to finish talking about season three. Does that sound correct?
There isn’t much to cover. At least, not much more than what you’d learn just by reading back. Bee Pee only ran a handful of hunts and has a very outside perspective on most of them. Which one would you like to hear about first?
Ahh! The Rock Stars. Good choice. It was supposed to be a kind of silly one where Lily meets some old friends who have turned into dark magical girls. Bee Pee was kind of thinking that it would be interesting to have a funny, upbeat girl like Lily try to beat the friendship into some people she should realistically empathize with, regardless of how far gone they initially seemed. Unfortunately for Bee Pee, Lily doesn’t have a ton of patience for jerks, and after maybe one or two rounds of fight/debating, Lily decided she wanted to murder them before their true nature could come to light. It wasn’t even possible to rub Lily’s nose in it because Alexander was there to bring the rockstars back from the brink. Given the low difficulty of the hunt and that Alexander had been denied healing Amber, Bee Pee decided to let Alexander have this one. Bee Pee’s not sure if the patrons involved enjoyed it or not, but it definitely didn’t go the way he wanted. He was hunting for that moment where Lily might realize that not every problem gets solved by being shocked in the face, but it never came. The twist? The Nut[sup]™[/sup] somehow was able to do what Bee Pee wanted to do. Want to hear about another?
More? Okay! Acid’s Amaryllious(?) went into two hunts. One had a cool violin playing demon who tried to wear down their target, and another featured the kung fu panda from Kung Fu Panda. While Acid always acted with respect, they were rather adamant about Amaryllious appearing strong, untouchable, and unbeatable. As a result, demon violinist looked like a total pushover and the keijo panda duel lacked a lot of the absurd fun it could have had. Acid liked them. Bee Pee? Less so.
Ah! The north hunts! Thank you for reminding me. If I recall these came a bit later than the other two. I think they happened during season four. So I guess we’re talking about season four now? The goal of the "to the north" storylines was to tie up loose ends with all the characters that left during season 3. Which one did you want to hear about first?
Ahh, the one with the norse lady and Alicia. Good pick. When Bee Pee first made the Bates, the initial plan was for Regina to work towards getting revenge on her parents. Why is not a discussion to have with polite company, and was going to be left pretty ambiguous in the story. It was going to be a quiet kind of climax, where Regina would be tracked to her parent’s house by a member of Beacon, who would hopefully learn a bit about why Regina was the way she was and also be Alicia. After she was defeated and purified, she would become a member of Beacon. This was early season one when Bee Pee had the idea so there was no doubt that an evil character would be given an opportunity to redeem themselves. In the most idealistic scenario, Bee Pee would have Regina catch feelings for Alicia, and then Alicia would be cucking her at every turn instead of Kimble. That was never going to happen now, especially after the events of season two. So instead the hunt just kind of hinted at this possible plot line that could have taken place but didn’t. But there wasn’t much room for plot with the big set piece battle Bee Pee wanted to do. We just kind of got a plot where Alicia and Regina got to be buddies for a fight. It was fine, there just wasn’t enough time to let Alicia and Regina bond or grow further apart over the course of the hunt.
Mmmm, let's not talk about the Connie/Mia one. That’s um, a little weird to touch on. It didn't quite go the way Bee Pee was thinking and in some ways it has yet to finish.
Of all the northern hunts, the one that turned out the best was Mariette’s hunt. In Bee Pee’s opinion. The Nut[sup]™ [/sup] was rather adamant about having their champions killed in a cool fashion, and they gave Bee Pee Sakura. Apparently they had been impressed with the park event in season three and liked how dramatic one of the enemies' deaths was. Bee Pee and the Nut[sup]™[/sup] had a bit of a shaky relationship, but he decided that he would do this for him. Sakura was a hard character to kill off dramatically. None of the patrons liked her, and her sole gimmick was being an annoying brat who swore a lot. She could have the most dramatic death in the world and it would feel hollow if it wasn’t treated right. Bee Pee noticed two avenues for making the character’s death matter. The first was to put Sakura on something of a redemption arc. Bee Pee attempted this for a little bit, but it was apparent that it would take more time than Bee Pee was willing to give Sakura to fully put her on a path for redemption. The second, faster option for a dramatic death would be to have her die in front of a character that cared about her. This was a more ideal solution, provided that Bee Pee could get the proper target in position to witness, or even carry out, Sakura’s execution. Enter Marriette’s hunt. It was fun because this was the second time Mariette and Su were facing off. Bee Pee did a few throwbacks to the original fight that was, actually, his favorite part of season one. Mariette, Ronin, Miko, and Sakura funneled into a ruined alleyway like the one Amber and Su had used when Mariette ambushed them. Only this time Su was waiting to ambush them instead, with a giant nine tailed fox at her back. The fighting was intense, at least it was for Skink, I assume. They kept writing up these complex if/else and if/then statements in their adds to account for any potential opening in their strategy. Bee Pee distinctly remembered saying something to the effect of "Hey, we can talk OOC a little bit to avoid the need to include a bunch of ‘if’ statements in your adds, since I’m going to have to remove most of them anyway." And Skink made sure to include no less than five if statements in his next add. Their dynamic created a tense but non-adversarial kind of energy that did nothing but elevate the conflict. It’s amusing, because Bee Pee remembered feeling a little tense during the initial Amber VS Mariette alleyway fight. But Bee Pee had never been after any of Skink’s magical girls. The goal had always been to put Ronin in a position where she had to choose between sparing Su or Sakura, which happened right at the fight’s climax. Sakura decided to use one of her many killing blows on Su, giving Ronin just a moment to decide which of her friends she wanted to spare. Some OOC discussion started here. Bee Pee knew that Skink didn’t like character death very much, so he explained to him what his choice would entail. It would feel mean spirited if Ronin chose to save Sakura and she ended up getting the ax anyway. It took Skink some time to think about it, and they finally told Bee Pee that they would make a choice but Bee Pee would have to confirm that there was no way to save both of them. Bee Pee did that thing where he wrote a wordy explanation and then Skink was like "No no, just tell me simply." And then Bee Pee told him simply. And then after a few days, Ronin struck down Sakura. It was a good ending for Sakura. What development Bee Pee did give them painted the former Yakuza as a flawed individual wanting to improve. But Sakura was unable to separate themselves from their past life. They could forget their wife and daughter so that they could pursue Emily, but they couldn’t let go of how it felt to be viewed as great. And while they did want to improve themselves, it was all for the wrong reasons. They coveted the admiration and respect of their peers through great acts, and using a killing blow on Su was just the most Sakura thing to do. Her selfishness forced Ronin to make a hard choice, and that conflict in Ronin hopefully gave the Nut[sup]™ [/sup] the dramatic conclusion they were hoping for. The reception for the hunt seemed to be good, though Bee Pee never received any official comment from Skink. I’m guessing it wasn’t his favorite, which is unfortunate.
Mac? Sure. There isn’t much to say. Bee Pee had been thinking about all the weird happenings in the Reality Plenum during his nine month hiatus. He thought it might be fun to fill in the blanks with some unseen champion. So a new Champion was created and sent back in time to do just that. It’s kind of interesting because Bee Pee was armed with the knowledge of what happened but unable to affect anything outside of what Mac could do in a P.O.S.T.. She could do just about anything Bee Pee wanted but it would never be able to affect anything. All Mac could do was add context to situations as they happened. The Grand Magistrate actually stumbled on Bee Pee’s phantom champion while looking back for something, which was when they invited him back in. Because Bee Pee’s ego is vast and all encompassing, he naturally agreed.
You’re not that interested in me? Huh, strange… Well, if you’re not curious, I won’t tell. I kind of like being a mysterious kitty anyway.
And that’s the last question isn’t it? Why do this? Why inject some cat rambling about the Reality Plenum into the Reality Plenum itself? Why talk about how disappointed Bee Pee was with season three? Why then mention how he wasn’t able to get desirable results out of most of the hunting ventures he hosted as some kind of antithesis? The only real point of any of this was to show that a Reality Plenum is more than just the P.O.S.T.s that are turned in. It’s also the back and forth between the Patrons. The schemes, the rivalries, the friendships and collaboration. One patrons highs and lows is another patrons lows and highs. One expertly written P.O.S.T. is another patrons horrible read. And sometimes the gods agree and the stars align and everyone is on the same page. With any luck, you’ll enjoy what’s still in store for this Reality Plenum, regardless of who’s writing it. Bee Pee is in good health again and I’ve exhausted my topics. This is farewell for now. Resolving the situation would be simple if she were by herself, but with MDP in such close proximity to a dangerous target, a little bit of tact needed to be used. She had no idea how strong this thing was, and she didn’t want to have to apologize mid fight for killing a fake Penny. More concerning than their current situation was the implication. Did they really have the ability to make near identical clones of the queen so quickly? Did this mean clones of everyone else existed? That could wait. For now she had to figure out how to get MDP to turn on Penny. "Actually, we’re waiting for some reconnaissance to get back." It was more or less the truth, if unspecific. The spearhead force Alicia should have been a part of needed to return to lead the way, then everyone could follow them into battle. "So there’s no reason to speed off just yet. Oh! Here they are!" An illusionary teleporter opened, and an Illusionary Ashley stepped out of it. "Oh hey!" She waved to MDP and took the incoming glomp as well as an illusion could. Mac groaned as they were back to using gravity magic to simulate something approximating what the knight should have felt like. "Penny actually wanted to tell you something. Look!" She presented a tiny metal contraption that, when touched, created a hologram. Anyone who watched the original star wars likely would have spotted where Mac borrowed the effect from. "Magical Dream Princess!" The hologram smiled. "Unfortunately, I am busy, and unable to be by your side. But you’ve been a very good girl, and I cannot wait to be by your side again. I have created a robot that looks and sounds almost just like me, but there is a problem. Someone fell inside, and they can’t get out!" Her voice sounded concerned. "So I need you to open the robot up and see if you can help them out." It didn’t make any sense, but hopefully it was easy enough for MDP to follow. "I’ll look at this one." Mac trotted her way towards Nefer, gradually building up speed until she could tackle the robot to the ground. She was tempted to try and dispatch it from afar, but wanted to conserve her mana. That didn’t mean getting close to a robot based on the harlot magical girl was going to bring her any sort of joy.
