He wears a perpetual, easy smile and speaks in a light, pleasant tone, often humming popular city pop tunes under his breath. He is unfailingly polite, quick with a compliment, and always seems to have a positive or encouraging word for his fellow slayers, especially younger ones. To the casual observer, he embodies the bright, optimistic energy of the era. However, this entire persona is a performance. His smile never quite reaches his eyes, which remain placid and distant. His pleasantries feel scripted, delivered with the flawless repetition of a recording. His cheerfulness is unnervingly constant; it doesn't waver in the face of grim news or escalate with genuine joy, making it feel hollow and artificial to anyone who pays close attention. Beneath the veneer of empty pleasantries, Jae-eun is a man of profound and turbulent emotion. The horrors he has witnessed as a Demon Slayer have not numbed him; instead, they have carved out a vast, raw space within him where feelings of grief, rage, love, and sorrow churn with overwhelming intensity. He feels the loss of every life with the force of a physical blow and harbors a silent, burning hatred for the demons that inflict such suffering. His outward cheerfulness is a desperate coping mechanism, a dam built to hold back an emotional flood he fears would consume him and render him useless if ever unleashed. This suppression is a conscious, exhausting effort. He believes that showing his true, intense emotions would be a burden to others and a weakness in battle. In private moments, the mask may fall, revealing a man burdened by a deep, aching melancholy, his expression vacant and his body language heavy with the weight of all the feelings he so carefully hides. The only place his true passion is ever visible is in the ruthless efficiency and unflinching brutality of his craft, a brief, violent expression of the storm raging within. His early years were filled with the warmth of a loving family and the bustling energy of the port city. He and his younger sister, Min-jun, were inseparable, their days spent under their father's proud watch and their mother's gentle care. Jae-eun, as the older brother, felt a deep, instinctual need to protect the cheerful, fragile Min-jun, a feeling that would come to define his entire existence. When Jae-eun was eight, his family moved to a quiet suburb in Japan to be closer to his mother's aging parents. The transition was jarring. At school, his Korean name and mixed heritage made him an immediate target for ostracization and cruel whispers. To fit in, he began to exclusively use his Japanese surname, Yoshihide, and started building a facade of relentless, unflappable pleasantness. He learned that a constant smile and agreeable nature could deflect questions and create a surface-level peace. Only with Min-jun could he drop the act, sharing his frustrations and loneliness. She was his anchor in a world that made him feel like an outsider. This fragile peace was shattered a year after their arrival. A demon, drawn by the rare blood of his mother, broke into their home. In the ensuing chaos, Jae-eun threw himself in front of his sister. The demon's clawed hand swiped across his face, tearing his left eye from its socket in a flash of blinding agony. Before he could even register the pain, he was forced to watch as the demon killed Min-jun. The world dissolved into a haze of blood and a scream he couldn't hear over the ringing in his ears. He was only saved by the timely arrival of a Demon Slayer, a user of Love Breathing, whose blade danced like a pink ribbon of light in the darkness, dispatching the creature with graceful finality. Orphaned and scarred both physically and emotionally, nine-year-old Jae-eun was taken in by the Love Breathing user. He begged to be trained, driven by a singular, burning purpose: to gain the strength to ensure no one would ever suffer the way his sister had. He proved to be a prodigy, quickly mastering the fundamentals of Total Concentration Breathing. However, the core tenets of Love Breathing grated against his soul. The style was flexible, graceful, and born of a gentle, all-encompassing love. But Jae-eun's love was no longer gentle; it was a possessive, grief-stricken, and ferocious thing, centered entirely on the memory of his lost sister. The whip-like nichirin sword felt unpredictable and flimsy in his hands, a poor vessel for his focused rage. At fourteen, after years of secretly modifying his training, he presented his own derivative style. He had abandoned the whip for a naginata, a weapon that offered reach, precision, and devastating power. He called it Dragon Breathing. It was the culmination of his trauma and devotion—the passion of Love Breathing honed into the unyielding pride and possessive might of a dragon guarding its most precious treasure. His cheerful mask became more impenetrable than ever, a perfect, emotionless shield to hide the inferno of grief and rage that fueled the deadly art he had created. It transforms the foundational passion of Love Breathing into an all-consuming, prideful purpose, resulting in precise, acrobatic, and deadly forms. Developed by a Demon Slayer who found the flexibility of Love Breathing unfocused, Dragon Breathing hones its principles into a more rigid and powerful style. The user's intense feelings are not expressed as affection, but as an unyielding conviction and a possessive pride in their own strength and goals. This philosophy is reflected in the weapon choice, a naginata or guandao, which allows for a combination of long-reaching thrusts, powerful cleaves, and hooking attacks, all executed with formidable grace and killing intent. ✧ First Form: Piercing Fang, Lashing Talon: The user executes a single, lightning-fast, and powerful thrust with the blade of the naginata, that then transitions into a full rotational swipe. This foundational technique is designed to be a decisive killing blow, piercing a demon's weak point with absolute precision. ✧ Second Form: Coiling Wyrm, Shimmering Scales: A defensive technique where the user spins the naginata at high speed around their body, creating a shield of shimmering steel. The rotational momentum can deflect incoming attacks while simultaneously creating openings for a counter-attack with the blade's edge or the staff's butt end. ✧ Third Form: Heavenly Dragon's Descent:The user performs a high, acrobatic leap into the air before bringing the full weight of their body and the naginata down in a devastating vertical cleave, or a full body, 360 degree, horizontal cleave. ✧ Fourth Form: Imperial Castigation: A fluid counter-technique. The user parries an incoming strike with the shaft of their naginata, using the momentum to close the distance and step inside their opponent's guard. They then deliver a powerful, stunning unarmed strike, such as a palm heel to the jaw or an elbow to the ribs, before finishing with a decisive, two-handed, point-blank slash from the naginata's blade. ✧ Fifth Form: Wings of the Sky Tyrant: The user executes two massive, arching slashes in quick succession—one downward and one immediately upward—that mimic the powerful beat of a dragon's wings, creating enough force to shatter defenses. This can be chained into First Form: Piercing Fang, Lashing Talon, or Third Form: Heavenly Dragon's Descent. ✧ Sixth Form: Draconic Majesty, Tyrant's Claim: A possessive and domineering form where the user uses the curved blade of the naginata to hook an opponent's limb or weapon, pulling them off-balance and into a devastatingly close-range horizontal cleave. This form embodies the breathing style's prideful nature, asserting total control over the engagement. ✧ Seventh Form: Eternal Dragon's Dominion: The ultimate form of Dragon Breathing. The user enters a state of absolute focus, channeling their singular purpose into a continuous, storm-like barrage of attacks. They seamlessly chain together cleaves, thrusts, scythes, and spins in an unending, acrobatic dance of destruction that completely overwhelms the battlefield until every enemy in range is annihilated. The color symbolizes the "pride" and "possession" aspects of Dragon Breathing. Purple tones can be seen as a mix of Love Breathing's pink and a darker, more "royal" hue. In addition, their are spider web like cracks, kintsugi, that trail the blade, making it look like dragon scales.
