In Greek mythology, "The Gigantes" are where we got the word for "Giants", as well as the idea of them. The tale where they featured most prominently was called "The Gigantomachy", and was considered the end of the Greek legends. How appropriate, than, that for us, Their arrival signaled one thing: The End. Nobody knows where They came from; speculation was all over the place. Reports put them anywhere from 5 to 20 meters, rising from the seas, emerging from the earth, charging down the mountains. By the time everyone knew They were real, They were everywhere, They couldn't be reasoned with, and They couldn't be stopped. The big cities got hit the hardest, one or more charging in faster than they could evacuate, or even sound the alarm- millions were consumed by Them in just the first 2 months. Our armies tried, but were also among the first to fall. They were too strong. We fled underground; hiding was our only option. Some say there are floating colonies out on the seas, but for now, underground is all we know- The Surface belongs to Them. We manage to get by with what we have, but sometimes we have to go up, for scavenging and forage. Sometimes we even catch radio signals from other shelters! It's dangerous to go up, but the bold and brave who keep managing to return earned a place of honor among the survivors. They come back with tales of having to flee, or even fight Them, and the lengths they have to go to in order to survive! Officially, they're just called Rangers, but the people's eyes light up with hope as they start to call them
Giant Slayers
Welcome to the Giant Slayers rp! This is a post-apocalyptic setting, where the surface of Earth is too dangerous for human civilization due to the presence of colossal predatory creatures that resemble humans and primates. Humans have been living primarily underground for at least 5 years since They came. People call these creatures Giants, or Them/They collectively.
They are enigmatic in origin, and most people within the setting don't concern themselves all that much with the question. It doesn't matter where They came from; They're here, and all we can do is deal with it. In terms of sensory perception, They seem to work like zombies; They use all senses equally. If a Giant hears or smells something that might indicate a human presence inside the old office building, it won't matter that it can't see the player characters. It will investigate, including tearing into the building like a bear into an old stump to eat the ants inside it. They seem to have animal brains, and nobody has found any evidence that they can be reasoned with- everyone who's tried was captured and eaten. Humans are the preferred prey of Giants, but nothing is known about Their metabolism to indicate how often they actually need to eat. They've supposedly eaten other animals as well, but outside of rumors we only know that they eat humans, and each other (mostly their wounded/dead).

Moles Most humans have been living underground, in shelters that vary in size from family size from caves to family sized shelters to bunkers that are effectively subterranean cities. They tend to have better resources, materials and are better organized than the raiders they encounter on the surface, and resent the animosity directed at themselves. Ruin-Rats The rare packs/groups of humans who manage to survive on the surface are pretty hostile to any others coming into their territories, especially the Undergrounders/Moles. They have a hard enough time fighting each other over scraps and avoiding Them without the Undergrounders agitating Them. Rangers/Giant Slayers These are people from both groups who've figured out ways to fight/escape Them when they can't avoid them; they're very good at surviving, and using the environment to their advantage when available. One way or another, both groups have a strong reverence for these individuals; Moles try to have an experienced Ranger or two on every expedition to the surface, including in the planning stages, and among the Ruin-Rats they find themselves rising to positions of leadership.
I'm keeping character sheets minimal: Player: Character Name: Description: written or image is fine Mole/Rat (put a line through the one you aren't) Occupation: Gear: Background: submit characters in the OOC first, and please don't put them in the character tab until they're approved.
