Both would be possible, although mass-produced versions are likely to be modified to suit the particular pilot’s preference. I’d imagine that Lancers who come from the nobility would be more likely to have their own unique mech, while commoners would make do with more standard models.

That being said, I’ve got no problem with a character that uses a bare-bones standard model straight off of the assembly line.
